Justin Trudeau has created many political platforms in order to win over the votes of Canadian citizens. Most of the platforms are creative ideas and will help make Canada a better place, but some are not very good and in my opinion will not be the right choice for Canada.

Citizens in Canada indirectly hold power in a free electoral system and are given better representation and more freedoms for their citizens than other systems of government. The freedom of speech, freedom of political expression, and the freedom of the media allow citizens to vote in favour of their own interest. Democracy in Canada is rooted on the grounds of equal rights; this gives people equality before the law, human rights, free and fair elections and so on. In comparison to the Third World, power is in the hands of the “Big Men”, the police and army are the ones who hold control not the people and where corruption is a norm, Canada may look like a utopia. Another strong point in the Canadian political system is everyone no matter race or sex has the right to vote as long as you are a Canadian citizen over the age of eighteen. Until the 60s/70s parties would make up electoral boundaries this was done to increase the number of votes in that location this is called gerrymander, this was unfair because certain parties had an advantage over others. Although it can be argued that Trudeau’s behavior was outlandish and informal at times, it could be considered charismatic, however, his behavior to politics was superior. On October 19th,2015 we vote to end the reign of the man who had been called the worst prime minister in history this man is Steven Harper. Harper became prime minister in 2006 and since then has done nothing but bad for Canada. Harpers record is that of someone who doesn’t hold the values of us Canadians. Some very “un-Canadian” things about Harper are; His “attack on science”, sexism, and racism.

Trudeau was later appointed MP of Papineau in 2008, and is still current representing that riding. When running for office, Trudeau stated he would increase tax on those who were wealthy and tax cuts for the middle class, he also stated that he would address Canada’s climate change

Opposing the belief that a dominating leader is running Canada, Barker brings up several key realities of the Canadian government. He gives examples of several “… instances of other ministers taking action that reveal the limits prime-ministerial power,” (Barker 178). Barker conveys the fact that Canada is not bound by a dictatorial government, “…it seems that the prime minister cannot really control his individual ministers. At times, they will pursue agendas that are inconsistent with the prime minister’s actions,” (Barker 181). Both inside and outside government are a part of Canada and they can remind the prime minister that “…politics is a game of survival for all players,” (Barker 188). Barker refutes the misinterpretation of the Canadian government by acknowledging that a prime-ministerial government existing in Canada is an overstatement.

On October 19th, 2015, Canada had its 42nd general election. Justin Trudeau was the best choice Canadians could make in terms of electing a new Prime Minister. Many past leaders of the Liberal Party of Canada can be held accountable for great change, such as Lester B. Pearson commissioning a search for a new flag, Pierre Trudeau (Justin Trudeau’s father) creating the Official Languages Act and Mackenzie King instituting a national old age pension plan. Justin Trudeau is also considerate of the citizens of Canada; this is evident based on his opposition of the Northern Gateway Pipeline and outspoken support for the middle class throughout his candidacy. Similarly, Trudeau does not only consider himself responsible of his citizens but also the environment, given his promise to modify Canada’s national park admission fees and interest in ending fossil fuel subsidies.
