The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska, and opened new lands for settlement. Because there was millions of acres of arable farmland, it was necessary to create a territorial infrastructure that would allow settlement. The people living in the Kansas-Nebraska area also wanted a railroad system for transportation. The railroad workers wanted to expand their railroad there as well, because they needed farmers for customers.

America has been labeled by outsiders as “The Land of Milk and Honey” for many years. In a cynical twist of irony, Jurgis and his family became indulged in an American lifestyle that was anything but opportunistic. Almost immediately, they were faced with the challenge of finding new jobs and housing. In a city like Chicago, with booming enterprises and large-scale factories, as well as the increased use of assembly lines, finding a job would seem to be effortless. However, location was a key factor in determining the availability of jobs, as well as what type of work needed to be done.
The government needs to take more caution creating the federal budget. Edwards stated that “Consider Canada's experience. In the mid-1990s, the federal government faced a debt crisis caused by overspending, which is similar to America's current situation. But the Canadian government reversed course and slashed spending from 23 percent of GDP in 1993, to 17 percent by 2000, to just 15 percent today. The Canadian economy did not sink into a recession from the cuts as Keynesians would have expected but instead grew strongly during the 1990s and 2000s."

A company's budget serves as a guideline in planning and committing costs in order to meet tactical and strategic goals. Tactical goals such as providing budgetary costs for daily operations, and strategic objectives that include R&D, production, marketing, and distribution are all part of the budgeting process. Serving as a guideline rather than being set in stone, the budget is a snapshot of manager's "best thinking at the time it is prepared." (Marshall, 2003, p.496) The budget is a method in which to reign-in discretionary spending, and will likely show variances between what costs have been anticipated and what costs are actually incurred.

I attended J.S Chick African Centered school in elementary and I could always remember having two teachers to even out the student teacher ratio, so therefore we all were able to get individualized attention. Nowadays elementary school students aren't able to have this benefit. With all of the school shutdowns in the Kansas City, MO school district our children are being effected tremendously.
