Originally formed as service organizations, Greek lettered organizations today still try to hold onto that philosophy (Barry, 2007). Modern day fraternities and sororities strive to provide opportunities for member’s growth in four areas: service, scholarship, leadership and friendship (Long, 2012). But while the term social fraternity used to refer the growth of ones social and personal development the term social today typically refers to parties (Randall & Grady, 1998). Many studies have been and are currently being done to access just how beneficial Greek life really is to students and to help discover ways in which student affairs practitioners can best support the Greek life students that they work to make sure their personal and academic goals are being met.
So come around this rush season, I go to the info night just to clarify what exactly Alpha Kappa Psi was. And this is exactly what I was looking for, here on campus I’ve done well in the social aspect but I’ve yet to reach the same level
Kappa was one of three National Panhellenic Conference organizations to apply and receive an invitation to present. At the end of November, we shared all of the ways Kappa Kappa Gamma will contribute to the HWS campus.
The Organization create environments and opportunities where they can explore brighter futures. Through innovative curriculum and project based, hands on learning, students gain the skills they need to overcome barriers and achieve success at the highest levels.
“These topics we’re researching are legitimate problems that are going on in the world. If we could do something about it, that would be awesome, and Phi Theta Kappa that promotes that and gives you the opportunity to see something that’s going on in the world and do something about it,” said Chacko.
In addition to the rotating two-hour program, we have a peer-led, 60-minute curriculum that can be facilitated by a chapter Education Chairman for an entire chapter as well as online Behind Happy Faces courses for advisers, alumnae and collegians who are interested in learning more. As part of our yearly chapter programming, Kappa offers members Not Anymore, an engaging online program facilitated by peers. Throughout the course, young women share their stories about difficult topics, including sexual assault, relationship and dating violence, consent and bystander intervention. We value opportunities to support women beyond individual chapters by collaborating with other organizations to bring awareness to important topics that have
When I received a letter from Phi Theta Kappa a year or so ago, I was unaware of the impact joining the organization would have on my personal life. From my engagement with Phi Theta Kappa, I can now say that I have experienced the profound impact such a distinction can have on a student’s intellectual and professional development throughout their college careers. Many would agree that a student’s direct involvement with honors programs and honor societies is beneficial, but rarely is it addressed that these student-based organizations have just as big of an impact on their surrounding communities. By recognizing that these impacts happen because honor societies foster and encourage a specific set of values within an activity system, we are closer to being able to analyze such organizations as effective discourse communities.
It inspires young people to aspire to academic excellence by making a difference in this world by their generosity of spirit, service to the community and by developing a strong sense of social justice. We aim to provide excellence in teaching and learning through a challenging and inclusive curriculum and in so doing we teach our students to respond authentically based on a culture of critical thinking, reflection and the use of independent work habits.
Our vision and mission are central to our efforts in generating funds for this location: Today's young people face so many difficult challenges. Some of those challenges are as old as humanity-- neglect and abuse, poverty, peer pressure, competition. The mission is to enable all young children, especially those who need us most, to reach their full
Greek life – both honor societies as well as social organizations – has always been a meaningful part of my University experience. When I first heard about Sigma Sigma Phi (SSP) during orientation week, I was excited to see what the organization was all about and whether it was a group I could both join and help advance. The various SSP sponsored community service opportunities have been an invaluable part of my first-year experience and have allowed me to learn more about the organization, get to know more of my classmates, meet second year students, and of course effect a positive impact on those around me. I look forward to continuing to take part in these opportunities and contributing however I can to the organization.
Our mission is to facilitate rapid learning in a secure, positive, and challenging environment to individuals from diverse backgrounds that are resilient, adaptable and enthusiastic learners.
Like NAU, we want to integrate a global focus by instilling the values of integrity
This team — comprised of members who have expertise in establishing new chapters and working with college women — will immediately begin working with campus partners to market Kappa’s brand to unaffiliated women. Our expert team includes the following. • Leadership Consultants are staff members and recent graduates who travel to our chapters and work closely with local volunteer advisers and Content Specialists to address the chapter’s specific needs. Leadership Consultants will be on campus during establishment and Installation of the new chapter. New chapters can expect multiple visits from Leadership Consultants during other key times throughout the academic year, including Recruitment as well as officer transitions and training. • Chapter Consultants are trained staff members and young alumnae. They oversee all areas of chapter management and programming and will live on or near campus as they work with the chapter for the first two years. Typically, they are former Leadership Consultants who have experience working with collegians to develop strategies for positive growth. For a new Kappa chapter at Bentley, we will provide two resident Chapter Consultants for at least the first two years. • A Coordinator of Chapter

Kappa Kappa Gamma is not just a fleur-de-lis, a golden key, songs, bylaws or national conventions. It is not simply an institution, a creed, an obligation or even a way of life.
