Leadership Development

Like NAU, we want to integrate a global focus by instilling the values of integrity and service from the very beginning of a member’s Kappa journey.
From day one, members are encouraged to explore leadership roles within their chapters, specifically through the chapter committee structure. Each member is assigned to a committee, creating a place for her to have a say in chapter operations. This is an opportunity for her to contribute to a positive chapter environment while developing leadership and decision-making skills.
Committee involvement cultivates future chapter leaders.

This past school year I have been social chair of Nursing Students Without Borders. I have organized, implemented and hosted social events throughout the Fall of 2016 and the Spring of 2017. This past year the leadership of NSWB has worked to make NSWB community focused which is why the position I held was added this past year. I have been able to mentor a pre-nursing student through NSWB. I was able to answer the questions honestly from a pre-nursing student and provide support during the application process. I have been able to participate in leadership meetings and have learned how to plan well and how to improve event planning.
According to the textbook, Introduction to Leadership: Concepts and Practice, there are over 100 definitions of the word “leadership”, and all of them are unique in their own way (Northouse, 2015, p.1). There are so many different aspects to leadership that is it nearly impossible to have one definition that covers every area. Each and every person that is a considered a leader has his or her own way of leading because every situation, whether it be work, a team, at home, etc., calls for different and distinctive ways of leading people. Northouse states that there are six main aspects of leadership; it’s a trait, ability, skill, behavior, relationship, and an influential process (Northouse, p. 3-6). Giving a clear answer as to what leadership is defined as is very difficult, but this paper will talk about my specific leadership skills and what leadership means to me.
I am not sure this is a good one?! Or I have to reconsider my decision.
Above you see my leadership philosophy summed into one sentence. Within any community education is the top priority. A school must encourage greatness and loathe mediocrity. The school needs a supportive environment that establishes high expectations and achievement amongst its students. The school community needs to provide support that fosters high standards and expectations.
It is our duty to the profession to educate ourselves. We can learn Army doctrine, policy, and regulation by reading. Army Doctrine Reference Publication (ADRP) and Army Doctrine Publication (ADP) 7-0 will teach us structure and focus how to train. This will allow us to understand the procedures in training fundamental doctrine of developing leaders. Understanding these two publications will support how to develop programs in the Operational and Institutional domains. Recommending readings for Senior Leaders should be the following at a minimum: Army Regulation (AR) 350–1, Army Training, and Leader Development;

This is an introduction to the Leadership Archetype Questionnaire (Kets de Vries, 2006b), introduced in Chapter 12 of the textbook “Leadership: Theory and Practice” by Peter Northouse (Northouse, 2016). The Leadership Archetype Questionnaire gauges a leader’s perception of his/her style of leadership by identifying the key leadership behaviors they display, based on different leadership prototypes (Northouse, 2016). The following is a brief summary of the resulting findings of the questionnaire, as well as a paragraph with a short assessment of the results. Finally, a brief analysis of the impact the characteristics of the psychodynamic approach might have on one’s personal leadership style.
The role of leader is one that I truly aspire to be and think that with the support of this course, my MSOL program and personal focus it is something I will be able to obtain. In my daily routine leadership is something that is often reflected upon. Over the last few years this has become part of the expectations of company and has been built into my performance goals. These goals include improving the team, individual, and business knowledge. The last few performance review I have ranked high in these categories but is that it, could that really be all that becoming a leader is?

Before entering my Perspective on Leadership class, I never really thought about leadership that much. My thoughts on leadership were fairly basic and simple. To me, leadership meant to be that person that takes charge of situations and declares their authority over others. However, I learned that leadership is much more than just having authority over a situation or others and that there are many different types of leaders.
Leaders exist at all levels within an organizational design and should not be interpreted as only applying to positions of management. Leadership development programs characterize the institutional desires in creating positive organizational structure in every realm of the corporation. Recognizing the variation between different levels of leaders and their contributions, it is critically important to identify the necessary characteristics of emerging leaders. The knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform satisfactorily at current occupied levels is just as critical to mission success as readying establishment employees for the next opportunity. In order to sense levels of excellence, senior leaders can gain a baseline of capabilities by conducting leadership and personality profiles of existing employees and more importantly, decide on principled traits of incoming leaders, which ensures the culture of leadership that is desired.

There is no greater asset to a company than building up leaders from within. In fact, It has been proven that the best, most loyal, and most qualified leaders within a company are those internally trained and promoted (Clarke 2012). It seems that some businesses have a strong grip on the best means of developing leaders within their company, while others are somewhat lacking. For this paper, my personal experience as an entry level employee who utilized the leadership program is used along with ideas from other leadership programs. This program is specifically geared for leadership development within a call-center setting.
