Abdullah Ansari Dr.Walden ENG 2, 4th 11/25/2017 The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Schoolastic Press 2008, Dystopian Adventure, #374 Katniss Everdeen The main character and protagonist of The Hunger Games is Katniss Everdeen. She is exceptionally strong, capable and much more mature than you would initially expect. Katniss also happens to be extremely resourceful because she is the head of her household and provides her family with food by hunting and foraging, skills she learned from her father, who died in a mine explosion a few years ago. Katniss has tremendous love for her 4-year-old sister, Prim, in fact she volunteered to take her place in the annual Hunger Games. Peeta Mellark Peeta Mellark is the male tribute from district twelve, who also happens to be in love with Katniss Everdeen and eventually becomes her focal ally and love interest. Peeta is best described by his immeasurable love for Katniss and his willingness to give up his life for her. Katniss portrays him as kind hearted and generous because of what he did for her a few years before the games. A while back, Katniss and her family were starving behind Peeta’s family bakery, so her intentionally burned some bread so it was unusable and threw it to Katniss, he received a beating from his mother but he already knew that was going to happen. He just cared more for Katniss than he did for himself, telling us that he was also selfless. He also puts his life in jeopardy multiple times, for example, during The
In the novel, the Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, Katniss Everdeen does whatever it takes to survive in the Hunger Games. Katniss battles against twenty-three other children from the twelve districts along with hunger, cold, and sickness to stay alive in the games. Katniss must use many of her attributes to win the Hunger Games, such as her resourcefulness, caring, and determination.
Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist in The Hunger Game series, is one of the survivors of the hunger game. Katniss comes from district 12, the poorest area in the whole countries. The character’s image is tough and strong because she wants to protect her family from any dangers. Therefore, she volunteers to replace her sister in the hunger game to protect her. She even become the symbol of resistance (the Mockingjay) of the war to the Capitol during the revolution. For people in the Panem, Katniss is the victor of the hunger game, the hope, who survives from the torture and poverty. The image of Katniss represents people who fight for survival in the real world. People sometimes need to give up something when they faced difficulty, like Katniss, she makes efforts to fight with the government.
Katniss is the protagonist of the novel. She is a tough, self-sufficient, extremely loyal girl whose childhood was cut short by responsibility. After her father died, her mother sank into a deep depression, so it was up to Katniss to feed the family. One evening, she was going through others' trash in desperation when Peeta Mellark purposefully burned bread from his family's bakery and gave it to her. She feels like she owes him for that action, because after that she realizes the forest will be how to feed her family. She and her friend Gale regularly hunt wild game and gather food, selling some and keeping some for their families. Katniss dearly loves her younger sister Prim, so much so that she volunteers to go to the Hunger Games in Prim's place. Though Katniss could very easily feel bitter towards her more sheltered sister, instead she is fiercely protective of her. During the Games, this protectiveness transfers to another young tribute named Rue who Katniss grows very close too and mentors as she were an older sister to Rue.
A character which I feel sympathy for in the film the hunger games is Peeta mellark. Peeta is a son of a baker from district 12, he has two brothers and lives with his mother and father. Peeta is a very compassionate person and is good with words. He has been in love with Katniss Everdeen since the age of 5, but never said anything to her and did not confess his love for her until he was reaped alongside her in the 74th hunger game at an interview. Peeta was first seen in the film in the reaping of the hunger games when he was selected as the male tribute for District 12 for the 74th hunger games in this scene there was a close up of him and followed him to the stage the scene was dark and as Katniss recognizes him instantly knowing that he was the boy who throws her the bread so that she could feed her
In the Book The hunger games Katniss Everdeen faces overwhelming adversity when she finds herself found in the clutches of the capital stuck in the hunger games. Katniss is able to overcome this adversity by having strong characteristics like her intelligence, resourcefulness and being courageous, these characteristics will be discussed throughout the essay outlining exactly why these characteristics help katniss in the games.
“ I volunteer, I volunteer as tribute.” Says Katniss Everdeen, the main character in my book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins . Has someone that you love ever been in danger? Prim Rose Everdeen has been chosen as the girl tribute for district 12. Her older sister Katniss volunteers in her place because of how much she cares about her . Katniss Everdeen is Prim’s sister and also the main character in the book “The Hunger Games.”, by Suszanne Collins. This an action packed distopian book that show what the world could be like in the upcoming years if we don’t fix our culture. I believe that Katniss is a brave and courageous person and that love for someone can overcome anything.
The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins delineates that there are times when people believe that all hope is lost but only those who are strong will persevere through their darkest moments. Suzanne Collins portrays the theme throughout the novel with the main protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, as she struggles to endure her daily life and the annual Hunger Games. Collins displays the prodigious amount of persistence of Katniss Everdeen and her comrade, Peeta Mellark, which allows them to survive throughout the Hunger Games.
“We had to save you because you're the Mockingjay, Katniss, says Plutarch. While you live, the revolution lives” (Collins). Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games is a complex character who epitomizes the archetype of a hero, however, she also shatters the mold by rebelling against the capital and endangering her whole family. She starts out as a hero to her family, especially her sister, and then becomes the symbol of strength to everyone. Katniss sacrifices herself by volunteering to join the Hunger Games in place of her sister, it is a game of survival where a boy and a girl from each district are forced to fight the other members of other districts to the death. By going out of her ordinary world and preparing to join a game where her life could be taken, she fits right into the archetype of a hero. Her bow and arrow, the weapon that only she can wield, will be the only things to help her survive. Despite these heroic qualities, Katniss makes an erroneous decision and blunder mistakes that shows the reader the flip side of Katniss.
Katniss Everdeen, the main character is seen in an incessant state of anguish, worrying about her beloved younger sister Prim, without the slightest concern for her own welfare, an idiosyncrasy that robustly contradicts with the typical perfect and flawless main character portrayed in almost all action/adventure films. The controversial scene then ends with the fearless Katniss Everdeen taking her sister’s place and volunteering for her in the Hunger Games after she had been conscripted. There are even ceaseless ties made between District 12 and World War II concentration camps ranging from the rag like clothing to the groups of hopeless children with guns aimed at their face, further deliberating Katniss’s initial mother like and selfish instincts when preferring to worry about her sister in an environment that can be related to a significant historical atrocity. As a set-up for the rest of the film, this sequence plays an important role in constructing the underlying theme of the film as a whole. The fact that Katniss finds her own empathy, sense of caring and compassion and her journey of going from a un-trusting and instinctive girl to a strong moraled, selfless woman that would rather die than take an innocent human life. An
The Hunger Games, a novel by Suzanne Collins, is the story of 16 years old, Katniss Everdeen, who fights to death for her district. The Hunger Games is an event hosted every year by the Capitol of Panem, where a randomly chosen boy and girl both need to represent each of the twelve districts that the capitol is composed of. When Katniss little sister, Prim, is chosen to be the representative for District twelve, Katniss volunteers to take her place and fight along her male counterpart, Peeta. The reason I choose this book for my book report is because Katniss is not your typical 16 year old girl. Not only is she her family’s provider but she’s also skillful, strong, rebellious, and unsentimental heroine. These are characteristics that society would mostly link to a 16 year old boy rather than a girl.

We as people love to have friends, lots of them, and tend to want to accumulate more and more. Now here's the thing, friends come and go like the seasons and at the very end of the day the last thing standing is one's family. These are the people that matter most over any friend in the world. They’re that pillow that catches one another when one falls, and the people who back each other up in every decisions the other makes in life. Decisions usually take a lot of thought and seem to be the hardest thing to make sometimes but, for the character Katniss Everdeen in the book The Hunger Games she has no problem making them, especially when it comes to making decision about family. On multiple occasions katniss has had to make decisions that
