It is found later in the novel when Rue was dying in the woods on the hands of Katniss. “Deep in the meadow, hidden far away a cloak of leaves, a moonbeam ray forget your woes and let your troubles lay and when it’s morning again, they’ll wash away here it’s safe, here it’s warm here the daisies guard you from every harm here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true here is the place where I love you.” Although Katniss is completing against Rue, she is willing to care for others no matter what situation she faces. When Katniss is with Peeta in the woods she says, “Katniss feeds Peeta, constructs shelter with rocks from the cave for them two, and then settles down to keep watch for the night.” Despite the risks of helping Peeta, she takes the time to help he is wounded and ill. Only true friends will commit an act like that. Very few people have the heart of Katniss and the desire to help others which proves that she is a great
Katniss has an edge over many of the other tributes because she often lives not knowing if she is going to make it through the night. For years she has been responsible for the life or death of her family. She was devastated by the death of her father, though she recalls many of his fine talents and qualities. Throughout the training and the Games, she fights against feeling friendship for Peeta Mellark because she knows
In the novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, the main character and protagonist is 16 year old Katniss Everdeen, a strong and selfless young woman who is far more mature than her age suggests. As the main provider for her family after her father died, Katniss had to become responsible and resourceful at a young age, which forced her to participate in rebellious behavior in order to keep her family alive. She is an unselfish and protective character, putting herself in danger in order to keep the ones she loves safe, especially for her little sister Primrose. Even after the pain and hardships she has had to go through not only in the games, but in her life, Katniss maintains her
In the Book The hunger games Katniss Everdeen faces overwhelming adversity when she finds herself found in the clutches of the capital stuck in the hunger games. Katniss is able to overcome this adversity by having strong characteristics like her intelligence, resourcefulness and being courageous, these characteristics will be discussed throughout the essay outlining exactly why these characteristics help katniss in the games.
Like in any typical hero movie, there is a call that the protagonist has to answer. In The Hunger Games, Katniss hears her calling when her sister, Prim is drawn to participate in the Hunger games. Knowing that Prim is definitely not a violent person, Katniss 's instincts kick in and she volunteers for her sister without
“ I volunteer, I volunteer as tribute.” Says Katniss Everdeen, the main character in my book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins . Has someone that you love ever been in danger? Prim Rose Everdeen has been chosen as the girl tribute for district 12. Her older sister Katniss volunteers in her place because of how much she cares about her . Katniss Everdeen is Prim’s sister and also the main character in the book “The Hunger Games.”, by Suszanne Collins. This an action packed distopian book that show what the world could be like in the upcoming years if we don’t fix our culture. I believe that Katniss is a brave and courageous person and that love for someone can overcome anything.
Katniss lives in Sector 12, the poorest district in their world. There are electric fences that barricade the people from going into the forest. She cannot work to afford to feed her family, so instead she goes outside of the fence at a time that it is unelectrified and she hunts for animals to feed her family and survive. She doesn't usually even get much of the food that she gets for her family and usually takes the least amount she can have without starving. She is very kind and generous to her family with no return.
“We had to save you because you're the Mockingjay, Katniss, says Plutarch. While you live, the revolution lives” (Collins). Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games is a complex character who epitomizes the archetype of a hero, however, she also shatters the mold by rebelling against the capital and endangering her whole family. She starts out as a hero to her family, especially her sister, and then becomes the symbol of strength to everyone. Katniss sacrifices herself by volunteering to join the Hunger Games in place of her sister, it is a game of survival where a boy and a girl from each district are forced to fight the other members of other districts to the death. By going out of her ordinary world and preparing to join a game where her life could be taken, she fits right into the archetype of a hero. Her bow and arrow, the weapon that only she can wield, will be the only things to help her survive. Despite these heroic qualities, Katniss makes an erroneous decision and blunder mistakes that shows the reader the flip side of Katniss.
Every year a competition is held where one girl and one boy, ages 12-18, from each District is chosen for a game of survival. The last tribute alive, wins riches and lots of food. These games are called The Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen is from the poorest District, 12. She shows survival every single day of her life. Everyday she hunts, illegally, to supply for her family because her father died when she was young. Going into the games was no different. During a conversation with Peeta he says, “You know what my mother said? She said ‘District 12 might finally have a winner,’ but she wasn't talking about me. She was talking about you.” Because everybody knew how good she was at surviving, District 12 got a little bit of faith. He is saying that even his mom believed more in her than in him, because she had experience in survival and he, as a baker’s son, did not. This shows the audience that despite hardships and losses a human has the ability to overcome and do whatever it takes to survive. Katniss shows a strong relationship with her sister. After Prim, her sister, is drawn for the games she volunteers and goes into the games to protect her sister. Throughout the movie any decision that Katniss makes, is made with the thought of Prim. During an interview with Caesar Flickerman, he
Her sister Prim is chosen at the reaping, also known as the time where they choose the individuals to play in the game. Katniss knows her sister cannot win so she makes history and on the seventy fourth year of this game she is the first one to volunteer in place of someone. Consequently, her bravery sticks with her until the end, in
Then, Katniss’ love for Prim is so strong that she is willing to sacrifice herself for her sister, something that not many others in the district would do for their family members. Later on, Katniss winning the games is the biggest reason the quote is important. When Katniss enters the games and sees a bow and arrow which is her specialty. She tries to see if she can get it, but when Peeta is distracting her she has a late start and she doesn’t get it. She believes she has no chance to come out of the games alive without a bow and arrow.
Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist of the Hunger Games, displays the quality of selflessness when her sister, Prim, was chosen to participate in the annual hunger games. Through Katniss volunteering, she had expressed her love for her sister, so much so that she would give up her life. ”I volunteer, I volunteer as tribute!” are the words of Katniss at the reaping. Through the use of repetition, the readers portray Katniss as selfless and an undeniable hero to look up to and furthermore, aspire to be as brave as her.
Covering the ugly wound. Wreathing her face. Weaving her hair with bright colors”(Chapter 18, page 286, line 26-29). I thought that the message in this part of the text was her defiance against the Capitol by showing that Rue “is more than just a piece in their Games” (Chapter 10 page 172, line 4-5), she is not just another dead body from the Hunger Games-the song Katniss sang for Rue and the flowers represent how much Rue (who Katniss thought of as a surrogate sister in the Games) means
The main idea is strongly portrayed to us when Prim's name is called on reaping day, which is an important day in the novel as they choose people at random to fight until death on a reality T.V show. “I volunteer! she cried, I volunteer as tribute!” these words were spoken by Katniss Everdeen. Katniss believed that volunteering in position of her sister would provide protection and safety for Prim.
The book The Hunger Games is about a teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen who does everything she is capable of to protect and take care of her family. In District Twelve, where she lives, individuals are not allowed to cross the fence and find food. However, Katniss does not care about the rules, and she is only concerned about the well-being of her family. She, like most people in her district, is extremely underprivileged and if she did not hunt, her family would suffer starvation. She consistently puts others before herself.
Katniss’s is a very strong, independent and loving character in the ‘The Hunger Games’ this is because she pulls her family through the rough time after her father’s death. Her mother is mentally unstable and can’t do anything so Katniss realises she must stay strong in order to keep her family alive. She uses her incredible archery skills to kill animals and gives the dead animals to the butcher in order to earn cash so she can feed her family. She loves her family so much that when Prim got selected she said “I volunteer as tribute.” and took her sister’s spot. She knew going into the games that she would have a 23/24 chance of dying
