Kayla Bennett, a 16 year old junior at Pitman High School is definitely an amazing girl to be around. She has many interests outside of her academics, some of which include playing the ukulele, singing, “Only when I’m by myself.” She chuckled. “I have a great interest in theater also”, she lightly mentioned. She continued, painting with water colors and doing yoga about 6 days a week. She sets many goals for not only her personal life, but her academics also. She talked about how she was very strict with herself on grades. “I mostly try for myself.” She revealed. She wants to get straight A’s this year. She continued to tell us that she likes to talk, likes making friends, and loves making people happy. Kayla has a pretty common fear, spiders, especially black widows. She said, “I think my fear began when I was younger and was watching one of the Harry Potter movies, there is a scene where a ton of spiders just come out on the screen and it scared me a lot.” Afterwards she continued,” I hate the squishing noise they make too when you try to kill them.” When asked what she thinks her age is mentally, she replied, “Sometimes I feel like I’m 9 and sometimes I feel like I’m 80.” Kayla has many amazing qualities and some of her favorites qualities she possess are that she is very friendly and loves making people happy. She also mentioned she likes her eyes. Her dream jobs are actually quite reachable for her, as mentioned before, she has a deep love for yoga, and would love to own her own yoga studio so of course she is working on getting her degree so she can actually teach classes. I remember walking through the doors of my high school and feeling a mixture of dread and excitement settle heavily somewhere between my throat and my gut. This was not the first time, nor the last time that I experienced what most people would call butterflies, except in my case it felt more like the butterflies were nukes playing tag, and the aftershocks were giving me the shakes. Due to my inability to talk to my fellow classmates without feeling like a leaf in the middle of a hurricane, I came to the conclusion that the only way to get rid of this fear was to face it head on, so that’s exactly what I did.
