College is an important place that can lead us to a bright and successful future. College success is more than academics; for us it’s learning how to become an adult for the first time in our life. In college we will develop skills to have relationships with professors, counselors, and with our peers. The whole college experience enables us to truly succeed. Meeting new people, becoming acquainted to different ideas and cultures, and mostly, the enjoyment of the four plus years of being in school. Others don’t believe in this. Some people don’t go to college due to how expensive it is. According to the article “Even for Cashiers College Pays Off” by David Leonhardt he states,”It saddles students with the debt; it does not guarantee a good job; it isn’t necessary for many jobs.” College can put a heavy burden on people that is not necessary. Furthermore, this is debt that they can’t fail to pay. Others don’t go simply based on the fact that they don’t like school.They feel they learn better outside of the classroom and are able to learn skills in the real-world. Lastly another reason they don’t go is because of the lack of support from their parents or family. Many families don’t give the support someone may need when starting college. I want to to go to college for something that I love. When I’m done with college and have a job, I want to know that it was all worth it. My motivation isn’t my parents. My parents aren’t going to be there to make all my decisions and tell me what to do. Going to college is my ultimate decision. Secondly my ultimate motivation to go to college is for the money. I want to be able to support my future self and also my family when the time comes. Lastly I want to go to college so I can get a degree. Many jobs now a days require that you have a degree. People acquire many valuable skills while in college. Either way, the skills that colleges teach, related to discipline and persistence, may be more valuable than academics.
