Should we Keep Reading Logs? Today I will be telling you about if we should keep reading logs. Well I strongly believe that we should get rid of them. There will be 3 reasons why I think we should get rid of reading logs, an introduction, and a conclusion. See why I think so in the next few paragraphs. Let’s go. Reason 1- The first reason why I think that we should get rid of reading logs is because it waste paper and when you waste paper that means cutting down tree’s which is animals habitats and animals will just be walking around and going into people's garage which also means they could sneak into their house to. But what if we didn’t cut down trees you ask? Well if we didn’t cut down trees then there would be no paper which means no reading logs or just paper to write on in the first place. That’s the first reason why I strongly believe that we should get rid of reading logs. …show more content…
But there mom or dad doesn’t really need to back them up if the teacher actually believes the kid. If the teacher had a kid in the past who lied about every time they actually read that would mean that, that’s why he wants to have parents sign the paper. For instance, a kid just wrote down random numbers and their parents believed them that would be why the parents would sign
Reading logs have no point. They keep time of reading, but who CARES? Not me, obviously. Only because my kindle
Jessica Lahey uses a variety of evidence to support her position that parents should check the grade portal less. She begins by providing background information about grade portals (pp8). She then uses the fact that schools enforce parental restraint by limiting access to the portal and the fact that some teachers hold off on posting grades until they have had time to talk to their students (pp 8, 10, 11). Additionally, she uses expert testimony from Principal Barbara Starkie who encourages parental restrain on checking the portal (pp12). This evidence is significant because it appeals to her audiences’ logos and shows that she is credible and that this issue is timely and real.
In the Hip Hop culture the song “Keep Ya Head Up”, was one of the first rap songs to bring up touchy issues about black woman. The rapper 2pac touches upon a lot of the issues we are learning about and the song also relates to the three step process that Craig Warner associates with gospel. In Chapter 1 of Understanding African American Aspects in Hip-Hop Cinema, it states that gospel music affirms “A belief that life's burdens can be transformed into hope, salvations , the promise of redemption.” While listening to the song I was able to break down the meaning using the three step process that Craig Warner associates with gospel. “(1) acknowledging the burden; (2) bearing witness; (3) finding redemption. The burden grounds the song in the history of suffering that links individual and community experience.” With this i was able to connect and vibe with the song and i will tell you how below.
I feel we should not have reading logs. We should just assign pages for a book that were reading or any book you just have to read that many pages. I like reading, i read when i’m bored or before bed but reading log don’t have a point. When you assign pages you don’t have to worry about people not read because they won't know the book the next day when you're reading in they won’t know the page.
know what they want them to know. In “Should Parents be held morally and legally responsible
Parents and educators will not always agree on what is best for their child. Murdick, Gartin, & Fowler (2014) state, “the parental view of ‘what is good for my child’ may not be consistent with the school district’s view of what is good for all those in the school” (p. 239). Therefore, it is important that parents know and understand they have rights when it comes to the education of their child. As well, there are legal options available when disagreement occurs. These rights and options come in the form of the procedural safeguards outlined in part B of IDEA. Schools are required to provide parents a copy of the procedural safeguards explaining their rights and legal options upon referral of services, when a complaint is filed, when a change of placement decision is being considered, and anytime upon parental request (“Procedural Safeguards Notice,” n.d.).
The importance of fitness during the teens years is the most important thing in a teens life, during your teen years your metabolism slows down by how old you get. As a kid your metabolism was fast, that's why most kids were active during those years but once you start going to school it starts to decrease. " Children in school for example were most active from 2pm to 6pm, which could reflect the fact that they are sitting in a classroom for most of the day until mid afternoon" (Park 5). Also "Kids may not be getting much exercise because they are not getting enough sleep and are too tired to be physically active" (Park 5). Kids probably don't get enough sleep due to cell phones, video games, and eating sugar at night causing
Her parents are concerned and seem to be willing to compromise if something can be proposed. Principal Tom needs to use the humanistic frame of reference combined with the political frame of reference for his next approach, and talk to the parents and the teacher together to develop a compromise between the two. Mrs. Rachael can allow Molly to take the test for a grade lower. This approach will give the parents empowerment to feel as though they were part of the solution.
Analysing Ms.Nancy’s kindergarten handwriting lessons, we can conclude that they are completely developmentally inappropriate. She expects children of the age of four years to copy sentences from storybooks to lined paper for 90 minutes without a break, informing parents that it is developmentally appropriate because an educated person is required to have these skills. This suggests that she does not account for the next 13 years of formal education, where students will develop skills to make them an “educated person”. Furthermore we must analyse the reason that Ms. Nancy is assigning this task to her students. With her suggestion that it’s a skill appropriate for an educated person then we can assume that her reason has an academic link. This
Too slow. Can’t keep up. Only 12 pages, did you give up? First grade is when the torture began, and when I mean torture, I mean reading logs. Reading logs were my biggest nightmare; my teacher would make me read for a certain amount of time and I would have to have my parents sign off saying that I actually read. In the beginning, I didn’t mind reading, I had enjoyed it in the past when my dad would read me a daily story before I went to bed. When I had to keep reading everyday for at least twenty minutes, I became tired of it really fast, and I began to dread it. I would push it off everyday until I went to bed as if hoping if I didn’t do it before bed then, I wouldn’t have to do it at all, but it never vanished. I typically enjoyed the books
The most important reading benefit in my opinion is knowledge; Knowledge is considered to be priceless and lasts forever. A British writer by the name of Laurence Sterne once said, “ The desire of knowledge, like the thirst for riches, increases ever with the acquisition of it.” This is what allowed us to progress farther than any other species. The continuous zest and hunger for knowledge is what drives mankind to keep going and looking for more.
I agree with Goodman’s argument since a kid needs privacy like their parents had when they were younger
I fell in love with these logs last year because students were required to ask questions, came to class with a whole sheet of items they could use to participate with, and began putting more thought into their actual reading processes. Ultimately, this coincided with a tremendous jump in standardized test scores, which was another perk of this process. Though these scores are important, the increased engagement and reading and class participation was really the motivator for bringing these logs back. (McCoy Carey,
writing done by either the child 's parents or a school district official who may be the school
It is inappropriate for a teacher to discuss a child’s results with fellow colleagues or other students. A child’s grades should be private, and should not be posted. Students might be ashamed of their grades, or some people might take poor grades as a bad reflection upon the students’ character. “Public pronouncements (of grades) are likely to taint everyone’s opinion of that child’s ability“ (Isenberg & Jalongo, 2000 ). It is important not to share professional confidential information in any other way but a professional way. There are appropriate and inappropriate times to share a child’s information, “part of becoming a professional is knowing when to keep quiet and protect confidentiality” (Isenberg & Jalongo, 2000).
