In 1953, he chose to attend Syracuse University with the help of a friend, Ken Malloy, who also happened to be a lawyer and an alumni of Syracuse. Malloy was instrumental convincing businessmen to pool their money together to pay for his tuition until he could obtain a full athletic scholarship. He got off to a slow start his freshman year when he was overlooked because of his race. He was the only black football player on his team. His sophomore year didn’t prove to be much better until he got a chance to play when one of his teammates got hurt and he was chosen to fill his position. His performance on the field was so dynamic that he was placed in the starting line-up. His talents were not limited to football. While at Syracuse, he also excelled in …show more content…

In 1956, he was even a qualifier for the Olympics competing in the decathlon. Although being chosen for Olympics was an honor, he decided to focus his senior year playing football and lacrosse. His perseverance paid off. By the time he graduated in 1957, he had scored 25 touchdowns, scored 187 points and gained 2091 yards. He was a selected All-American and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. In addition to his football honors at Syracuse, he was also chosen as an All-American in lacrosse. As a senior, he was instrumental in leading his lacrosse team to an undefeated season. He was so influential in this sport that game rules were changed. Brown even commented that if there would have been a professional lacrosse league, he would have chosen this sport over football. He loved this sport because it was very competitive but no pressure or publicity. Jim Brown’s dominating performance in all sports has earned him the name of Syracuse University’s greatest multi-sport
When Bobby Adedge was 18 years old, he had already won two Olympic gold medals. By the time he was twenty-two, he had been a well-known goalie on a prestigious professional hockey team. He had married an even more famous supermodel, who had her own budding career as an actress. He was thought to be smart, having invented the first dissolvable hockey puck, which was great for planet Earth and recycling, but not-so-good when hockey games went into overtime, the puck often melting onto the ice before the game was over. I do not feel that Phillip Malloy’s free speech rights were violated. There are multiple reasons for this. Philip was not singing to be patriotic, but instead to annoy his teacher Ms. Narwin. He was also warned multiple times to give the national anthem “quiet respect”. Once Phillip was in the principle’s office Phillip was even given a chance to apologize to his classmates for disturbing them during the national anthem, but he refused. These three facts are why Phillip Malloy’s free speech rights weren’t violated, and he was only singing to create a disturbance.
Jack Nimble was the fastest hurdler on his high school track team. In fact, he was so fast that he was able to win the state championship in New York. As a state champion, Jack was invited to compete in the national championship. However, being his first time competing in a national championship, Jack was overwhelmed with anxiety and had lost his confidence. As he practiced for the national championship, Jack was not able to focus as he ran. His coach noticed how he wasn’t able to run as fast as he normally would, as well as jump over hurdles perfectly. As the days grew closer to the Championship, Jack’s coach decided that they shouldn’t practice, instead they should have a talk to help Jack with his anxiety and help him regain his confidence.
When he was in high school, he was told that he should focus on baseball because he was too small to be any good at football. Instead of listening to them, he kept trying. He was 5’4 but was still determined to be the best he could be in football. He was always trying to be better at football, he would keep practicing the plays until he had them memorized. He ended up being a great player, and breaking a record for tackles with 224, which still stands today. He wasn't the fastest, or the biggest, but he still tried to get better everyday.
Never being able to see your friends and family seems like something unimaginable but for Morris Kent because of his own actions has to live in a nightmare for the rest of his life. Morris Kent was arrested at the age of 16 for 3 counts of robbery, 3 counts of home robberies and worst of all 2 counts of rape. Because of the severity of the crimes the prosecutor moved to try morris as an adult as the punishment would be more severe, but morris’s lawyer didn’t want to have Morris tried as an adult so he planned to argue that Morris had a “mental illness” so the case would stay in juvenile court but in the end the judges ruled against Morris and for the prosecutor. As a result Kent’s punishment was more severe at a sentence of 30 to 90 years in prison but Morris not agreeing with the decision the judges had made Morris appealed stating that the case should have stayed in juvenile court but as the judges didn’t feel the same way about the case they ruled

Christopher Johnson Mccandless, an intelligent young man, dies while trying to live in Alaska; by choice. The death of Mccandless was a controversial matter: people argued their thoughts on Mccandless’ story, and who's to blame for Mccandless' death. Some say it’s Mccandless’ own stupidity, or his honorable seek for thrill. Others say it’s his parents’ horrible way of raising him, or nature’s unforeseen acts. However, it is a mixture of all these, with Mccandless being the most at fault. Mccandless might have had choices, but there were things he couldn’t control, neither can anyone else.
