Kids Should Have Recess

First of all, recess can allow students to relax and release energy. According to “Do You Need Recess?” by Mackenzie Carros, “...’Recess is the one break in the day to relax and have fun!’...” (pg. 31) When a student is relaxing or having fun, it helps them take a little break to run or even walk around. That can help teachers with students that have a lot of energy and disrupt class because they will lose some of that energy outside having fun. That is one reason why middle schools should have recess.

It would give the a little space to breathe a minute, and sit with friends. It would take away some of their stress, to sit and talk with some of their friends. Instead of the alternative of sitting there worried over how much time you have, and trying to choke down your food to finish it. Sometimes not even getting to say a word to anyone. Kids already stress enough over their work, and out of school activities, or things happening a home. So why do they need anymore stress? Stress causes kids to do bad academically, because it wears them down, making it hard for them to do their best. Kids might even get a little time to do some of their work at lunch, if given even a little bit of extra time. If you have forgotten an assignment, and you don't have study hall or panther time you're out of luck. Unless you do it at lunch, but with how much time were given now, that would mean giving up eating.

On Tuesday we started a debate over if we are for recess and if we aren’t. I was on the pro side of the debate. With doing this debate we found out a lot of reasons why maybe recess isn’t such a good idea and why it is a good idea. For the pro side we found that recess provides an unstructured break that gives children discretionary time to engage in physical activity. We also learned that recess can be held anywhere. Recess plays an important role in a comprehensive school physical activity program and can provide a portion of the activity that a child needs every day to maintain health. Most teachers want good attitudes, but they won’t get any without recess. People are fighting back against this. The first reason why I think we should have recess is students need a certain amount of sunlight in order to become full of energy and it also helps student become more healthy.If you don't have a lot of energy in class then you won’t be able to stay awake in class and that results in getting in trouble maybe even a demerit. If students don't get enough sunshine then they won't be able to stay healthy enough to go to school.

My first reason why I think schools should have recess in middle schools recess increases concentration.

“ I'm so tired of sitting in those same boring classes with teachers talking the whole class period, I would like a break in between academic classes.” Schools should have a break in the day where students can have time to get away from all the teacher talking. With that said, students should have recess in schools, because minor movement at recess can alter the child's physical health, when at recess with their peers they can learn cooperation skills and negotiation skills, and children learn many things by playing at recess. Recess can also help students with their communication skills, brain development, and physical health.

Recess is a period of time during the school day in which students take a break from learning and socialize with each other. The students get to do whatever they want, and they have fun with each other. A typical recess involves unstructured play which means that the students engage in their own activities without adults. Recess can also be structured which means that teachers set up mandatory activities for the students to play instead of letting them be free. There has recently been debate about whether or not recess should become structured or unstructured. Schools should agree with structured recess because the students can be able to interact within the same activity. It can also promote teamwork and teach the students how to help each other out.

In every K-8 graders day recess, call it what you will, lunch hour, break, flex time, is a time to look forward to. Recess is taken away on a regular bases, yet it’s scientifically proven to boost academic, social, and cognitive achievement. Recess an important part of the school day, and should not be taken away.

My first reason students should have recess is because students spend too much time with their nose in a computer, and this can be bad for your eyes. Some of today's kids probably can’t tell the difference between a ladybug and a rolly polly. Kids need to learn how to have fun outside and not on a computer.

Students should be able to go blow off steam, run around for a half hour, let out some energy halfway through their day. Recess can also teach young kids responsibility. If he or she gets in trouble, the school can take it away from them. This teaches children that their actions have consequences. The number 1 problem at pilot grove school district is not having longer lunch periods.This is a big problem because the lunch shifts now are too short and kids can’t eat enough to not go hungry throughout the day.Also, we students don't get the time to talk to our friends in class so lunch is the only time to talk to each other and it's very difficult to talk if your stuffing food in your mouth at the same time and watching the clock and get ready to go to our next class. I also hear about other schools around the country are having 45 minute lunch shifts or longer.Therefore, since those schools get to have that long to eat a talk, we should to we could
