King Richard the First, also known as Richard the Lionhearted was the king of England from 1189 to 1199. His life was filled with surprising evince and interesting stories. He did not like the weather in England and only spent a little of his time in England, when he was king. Some interesting things that happened in his life time is he was imprisoned as king and he joined the Tired Crusade. He had a good relationship with the church in the time of his reign. King Richard the First was born on 1157, in Oxford England. He died in 1199 due to an arrow to the shoulder, the wound was not that bad, but the surgeon did such a bad job that he died a few days later due to gangrene. He did not spend much time in England, when he was king he only in England for six months. He said that England was always "cold and always raining." It is hard to have problems with people you never see. He also joined the Third Crusade which pleased the church. He was devoted to the cause of the church and he was loyal to it. Surprisingly there were three different popes in just his ten years of reign. Richard the Lionhearted was not do much of anything for the people of England or for England in general. When he became king of England he devoted his life to the Third Crusade which was started because Saladin, the leader of the Muslim armies, captured and took over Jerusalem. He did not care about the future of England, and used all the money he could to buy things for the Crusade. He was also competing with French, German, and English powers for the title of getting Jerusalem back.
