Throughout Terrence Malick’s 1973 film, Badland’s, Kit is constantly making all the decisions for Holly asserting his dominance over her. Right from the start Kit forces Holly to take walks with him, go for rides in his car, and then he takes total control over her after he kills her father. Forcing her on a long journey of running from criminal justice and sporadically killing people, Holly finds herself stuck with a mentally insane criminal. When Holly finally stands up for herself after being controlled by kit for a long time they go their separate ways and Kits criminal journey comes to an end shortly after. Kits control over Holly drives her away from him ultimately leading to their break up. From the very first day Holly and Kit met, Kit has tried to …show more content…
Kit comes to Holly’s house when they are not home and lets himself in. He starts packing her clothes in her room so when she gets home her clothes are all packed for her to leave with him. Kit also brings a gun with him because he is prepared for Holly to leave with him when she gets home whether she wants to or not. When he’s packing her clothes in her room it is dimly lit which represents his true, controlling, personality for the first time. When Holly and her Dad arrive home Kit points his gun at Holly’s dad because he threatened to call the police and when he took one step to far Kit shoots him. Kit then tells Holly that they are running away and gives her no other options except to leave with him and she agrees. Right before they burn down the house they are sitting in the living room talking and Kits face was completely in the dark while Hollys face is lit by the light from the lamp. This could represent that Kit is controlling and dangerous and Hollys innocence because she hasn’t done anything. After Kit kills Hollys dad he takes control of her which ultimately leads to their
One of the main symbols is the ‘lawnmower bomb’(pg90) this happens on one of the early reconnaissance trips when Ellie, Kevin and Corrie were cornered by soldiers and quick thinking led to a ‘lawnmower bomb’. This symbolises the ‘start’ of the war for Ellie and her friends. After this happens Ellie is haunted by what she had to do and this helps her change. The ‘hermit from hell’, this is a symbol as Ellie and her friends go into Hell, afraid of him and not understanding why he killed his wife and child with questionable intentions ‘That both deceased met their deaths EITHER as a result of bushfire consuming the Christie residence during which both were terribly burnt and that (the hermit) believing their injuries to be mortal… killed both deceased… OR that both deceased were wilfully and feloniously murdered…’(pg208) and came out the same. The hermit poses the question of whether the intentions of Ellie and her friends are selfish or necessary. When they blew up the bridge they also destroyed the only point of connection to the rest of the world. This symbolises how they are isolated and how they will need to survive by
Natasha has been feeling like Hayley and Jenny don’t want to be friends anymore, so she goes back to Becca. Together, Natasha and Becca try to find out how she got in the river. Later on, everyone was at play practice. Tasha wasn’t feeling good so she sat out. Becca’s best friend Hannah stepped in her place. When Tasha went to go move the overhead light, it came crashing down over Hannah. It killed her. Both the police and the girls had decided that Hayley and Jenny had led Tasha into the river and did something to the light for it to fall. The two girls were sent to prison and counseling for murder and attempted murder. After that, everything was going fine until Becca started to get a little suspicious. She asked the police if she could look over all the evidence again. She then came to the conclusion that Natasha had done all of it. She had thrown herself into the river and framed Hayley and Jenny, and she loosened the light so that it would fall. The police did not believe her. One night, Becca and Tasha went out into the woods. Becca was going to try and get her to confess. Natasha did end up confessing, but then she
Some things Andy thought was important, like the jacket, was not as important morally, but for the story, it symbolically means something other that just a jacket. “ ...the jacket read the Royals”(Hunter 1). The jacket was used to mean importance or dignity in Andy’s life, but after some shocking realization and dying, he found the real symbol, the real name of the jacket. Death. More key symbols were scattered throughout the story, what they represent is obvious and it connects to the theme of titles not being as important as they seem to be. When he left the dance, a knife was plunged into his purple Royal jacket, and under that jacket, there was a kid named Andy who bled out on a sidewalk thanks to the knife. “...the knife…”(Hunter 7). The knife was portrayed as anger and ignorance; there was anger in the knife, and that anger hated the jacket that Andy was wearing. Ignorance of the person underneath the detested jacket led to an unneeded murder. Without that anger, without the stabbing, Andy would have gone through his life thinking that his jacket was who he was. The jacket was shredded by a knife brimming with anger and the jacket suddenly lost all of its value, and yet Andy still had more to figure out in his life before his last breath. The whole reason Andy left the dance was his need for some more cigarettes. The cigarettes played the whole
The audience understands that she changes her perception about life. Golightly is depicted as someone, who can be manipulated by men out of love. In novella version, Holly is shown as a hard person to convince, and she only sticks to her values. Even after she meets rich men who are in love with her, in Truman's version Golightly mainly focuses on getting money and a place to live, which means that she values independence more than love. Moreover, Holly enters into a relationship because of the need in money, an image that remains unchanged in the novella version, indicated in the postcard she sends to the narrator (Capote 25). However, in the movie, the value for money diminishes, as the movie ends with a passionate kissing scene. The emotional attachment, shown between her and Paul, clearly reveals that Holly loved him more than his possession. This shows a change in her mindset, as earlier Golightly wanted to be independent and even told Paul that she belongs to
We see a lot of symbolism through the book, such as the gun used at the end of the book, and the pear tree. Towards the end of the chapter we see janie having to kill her only true love with a gun, it was a tough decision because in her eyes tea cake has shown her what true love really feels like. The gun symbolized how sometimes the tough decisions are the necessary ones. In the last chapter page 185 it states “It was the meanest moment of eternity. A minute before she was a scared human being fighting for its life. Now she was sacrificing self with Tea Cake’s head in her lap. She had wanted him to live so much and he was dead. No hour is ever eternity, but it has its right to weep. Janie held his head tightly to her breast and wept and thanked him wordlessly for giving her the chance for loving service”. This is talking about how she had to kill her own true love because her own

The many different camera angles used in the scene of the cease fire emphasises the light they see in the baby that Theo and Kee are protecting. One of the camera angles that were used in this scene that helped portray light and hope was at 0:16 of the video, the camera angle used was a first person view of the others inside the building seeing baby
As this friends gets closer to the where the couple are hiding, it is clear that they are unaware of the identity of this figure. Due to this, as the friend enters the room they are in, James immediately shoots him in the head with his dads shotgun. The uncanny can materialise as something that is previously known but has been repressed. Home invasion surfaces this uncanny repressed evil that is within everyone. In the case of The Strangers, James uses the shotgun to kill his friend. The uncanny highlights his repressed evil, produced by the home invasion.

So, it’s about 1700 and my flight has just landed and everything went pretty well. We are closing up the bird and getting ready to go home. The helicopter is all tied up and wiped down and everything is start to look good. Then some last minute maintenance comes up and the VELOs need to be tightened an blade pins need to be safety wired. Shortly thereafter, about 2 hours because I’m a retard and safety wired the VELOs instead of tightening them, but that’s another story. We finish the job I come in to sign off the MAFs and BAM! I set my cranial down on the floor or desk I don’t recall and I didn’t see it again until the next morning about 70ft above the hangar floor. Now I know the importance of the tool control program I am about to, in
Obviously the camera then pans to see this – but it can hold onto the shot for longer than Carol looks at it, giving the audience a chance to understand why Carol might look at it. As her state of mind being like it is, what it symbolises only needs a casual look or glance at it from Carol. As a symbol itself, the empty ‘hut’ represents a pathway or tunnel to a ‘dark’ kind of life – one filled with despair, depression, anxiety, anger, fear, hate, and/or any other types of negative human qualities. Near the end of the film, this ‘dark’ image is shown again, just after Carol kills the landlord with the cut-throat razor. Her face is kept in shadow – an oval of near black – and is framed by her hair, which enhances this image further because it is blond.
Kristy´s view is different than Catherines view of Ryan. Liam was scared inside and outside, you can even feel his horror toward the thought of walking into that grisly house. He seemed to bear the fact that he was going to have to face all the horror all over again but this time, at night.
She says you got to want it to be good and I don't want it” (Capote; 26). This is a perfect example of how when there is something Holly does not want to do she runs away and in this case she ran all the way across the country. Holly does not care who she is letting down or what previous commitments she has made, if she does not want to do it then she will not do it. Holly is very unreliable in this case.
However, the overall message the producers gave in the film was a significant knowledge to fundamental truths and belief in post-world war period. The setting, characterization, and conflict describes the lack of confidence and deception in people, the lack of morality, the lack of connection, lastly the lack of love for humanity. Holly found that his friend was a dishonest con artist; his lover did not love him, and was still in shambles without a job. Similar to the worlds view pessimistic view on government, life, and world issues. Holly twisted around and chooses to be a good person but violates the morality of association by betraying his friend and killing him.
