The connection that is drawn between the formerly economically challenged rapper and the child whose parent works two jobs, and can’t pay his child’s college tuition is paramount in making this point. The illusion of the American dream is set through many hip-hop songs. The picture of the evolution of the rags to riches story is set by many rappers in current hip-hop culture, this picture is the basic premise

Sean "Puffy" Combs has established himself as one of the biggest names in hip-hop (Heal). Combs a Harlem native whose father was killed when he was only 3 years old, rose from the mean streets to the top of the music business (AP wire, March 18). "It is true that he started from scratch, and I don't think that because he was arrested, people will stop buying his albums (AP wire, March 18). Before pursuing his career as a vocalist, Combs was a business-minded Howard University student and an intern at Andre Harrell's Uptown Records. Combs soon became the A&R representative for Uptown. He then began producing for soon to be mega-stars Mary J. Blige, Heavy D., and Jodeci to name a few. After being let go
Pauleon is one such artist destined for greatness. Growing up in the projects of downtown New Orleans, the young rapper and lyricist was exposed to the rhythms of the street at a young age. Even at that early stage, the small-statured and soft-spoken “kid prodigy” was working with one of the most well-known underground production teams in the Deep South. These dangerous streets have birthed their own distinct culture of arts and music which whispers its secrets to those with the ears to listen. Pauleon has heard this Muse, unleashing his vision with a craft that has earned him the nickname: the “Architect.”
Black pathologies include characteristics such as rising rates of poverty and crime, selling of drugs, and being unemployed. It appears that some elements of Jay Z’s biography fit this “tangle of black pathology” stereotype. Jay Z was born into poverty, and his father left his family when Jay Z was younger; the idea of poverty and of the father figure leaving are black stereotypes. Jay Z would also go on to become a hustler, selling drugs to others in his community. Some might argue that the actions blacks undertake result in characteristics such as unemployment. However, there are also several aspects of Jay Z’s biography that do not fit the “tangle of black pathology” stereotypes. Today, Jay Z is a very successful man who escaped poverty.
Dieuson Octave was born and raised in Pompano Beach in Broward County, Florida. Better known as his rapper name Kodak Black he has been in and out of jail. I consider him as a hero to his county because in big cities like where he is from not everyone makes it, it is either you make it by making music or playing sports.
When you hear a song that can make connections of all ages, and touch both genders. Bodak yellow is the right song; Cardi B is “the hottest in the streets.” Her song, Bodak Yellow continues to change the world's perception of music. The New York rapper has officially cultivated her social media life of ambition and hustle into chart-topping success. Bodak yellow has jumped from number eight to being ranked number three on the recent Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Bodak yellow has become a female empowerment anthem; the New York artist has recently remixed the song and officially dropped the Spanish version of the song. He started rapping not because other people was rapping and getting their names known, but because he wanted to do it for his mother who died from breast cancer, but that’s not what he always wanted to do. The two things he was known most for though were being fun and good on the court. He played basketball up to his junior year where he couldn’t play anymore because he was to busy in the streets.
In the days following Lil B’s lecture at MIT, I found myself trying to make sense some longstanding unresolved feeling I’ve had regarding the illustrious Based God. Lil B is a polarizing artist, I used to identify with the Task Force’s cultish fanboy worship of him during the Blue Flame era. As time went on, I drifted, but was never able to connect with those who crusaded against him as some sort of antichrist of #realhiphop. For the former, Lil B appears infallible; a recording artist who can do no wrong and whose work can’t be measured by any sort of normalized standards of judgment. For more conservative hip-hop fans, Lil B’s unpolished and seemingly haphazard approach to creating music makes him a pariah that should be ostracized from the rap game.
Rap was called “the black CNN” by rapper Chuck D because they were reporting issues within the inner city community through mainstream media. This idea of rap as “the black CNN” can be seen from the descendance of rapper as griots. Griots were the keepers and purveyors of of knowledge, which included tribal history, family lineage, news of birth and death, and war (Blanchard, B, 1999). Rappers create songs that through performance and recordings, allows it to spread worldwide about their lives, dreams, and discontents. They are the voice of poor, urban African American youth whose lives are usually misrepresented or dismissed by mainstream media. Rappers become the keepers of contemporary African- American working-class history and concerns.
A lot of people who listen to hip-hop know that most artist come from poor rough communities, the person who I’m about to introduce you to is an artist by which hip-hop had change his life from a negative place in life to a positive place in life. The rap artist is The Game, if you’re not familiar with him he is also from Compton. The Game was involved in a lot of gang violence growing up, in his A and E Documentary “The Streets of Compton” it talked about how hip-hop changed The Game’s life. The Game was a well-known gangster who ran with the Bloods a notorious gang in Los Angeles. The Game had no other choice but to join the gang because he needed money and had nothing else to do. The Bloods were always feuding with the Crips which is another violent gang in LA. But one day when The Game was in a hotel some Crips came and shot him in the chest multiple times, he was later rushed to a hospital and he was in a coma for a couple of months. When he woke up he soon realized that he needed to change his ways or he would die for real. So, The Game had decided that he wanted to become a rapper and express his feelings about how he felt about his life. The Game had believed that him being alive today was a message from god. The Game had begun to teach himself how to rap and eventually he turned it into a career and laughed his first album “The Documentary” in 2005. This album had changed his life and made him realize that being a gang member can affect your life. The Game had mentioned that if he never would have done rap he would have probably gone the wrong path and probably would have ended up dead. The Game is one of many rappers that hip-hop had a positive impact on him. I personally believe that if he didn’t choose to become a rapper he would have ended up in a casket. This is one good example on how hip-hop had a positive impact on him. Not
Using tone, DJ KRS communicates that hip-hop artists often create music just to make money, but those who write and stay true to their experiences and real lives will earn respect in their communities and in the music industry. In one section, he writes, “The way some rap is kind of wack/and it lacks creativity and intelligence/ but they don’t care cause the company is sellin’ it” (Parker). Here, DJ KRS takes on
One challenge Kendrick Lamar faced was when his family was directly touched by the violence of the streets, He handled it by remaining thoughtful and safe, also he was a strong observer, even as a child. In 2015, Kendrick released his next album, To Pimp a Butterfly, including and featuring artists like Bilal, Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams, and others.
Kodak island is totally isolated island, although it has a thriving community. Most of Kodak is a wildlife refuge, where Kodiak bears thrive on King salmon and Salmon berries. The town is a fishing community with it’s share of eccentric characters. The first thing that you notice when you get off the ferry is the small box houses that almost look like cracker boxes, that climb up the hill. Their bright colors contrast against the dark grey granite of the cliff. The second thing you notice is the pungent smell of fish, thanks to the local cannery that specializes in canning crab meat and salmon. The smell is overpowering when you first take it in but living with it day to day that you become so accustomed to them that you don't even notice
