Alex Tabarrok once said, “Education is the key to the future: You’ve heard it a million times, and it’s not wrong. Educated people have higher wages and lower unemployment rates, and better-educated countries grow faster and innovate more than other countries. But going to college is not enough. You also have to study the right subjects” (Reich par. 5). This quote is a very popular quote because it is a true to connection to education. The general assumption about college consists of how important it is to personal success, our future, and our general lives. However, questioning whether college is really important or not is becoming increasingly more popular in our society. Going to college is commonly one of the biggest decisions that we make in our lives so let me ask you this question, is college necessary for personal success?

In society today, a college education is often seen as a “the next step” in a young adult’s life. Whether they actually know what they would like to earn a degree in, they feel the need to continue their education as almost everyone around them is pursuing post-secondary education of some sort. It is often argued that a college education is not necessary to get ahead because of the manufacture based workforce that is up and coming in America, however, there are many benefits to having a post-secondary education such as a higher rate of pay and more job opportunities.

Despite of whether going to college is worth it or not, recent college graduates have become more successful in their lives. Some people may think that attending college is a waste of time and money, while others feel that college gives them valuable skills in the real world. College will help the person gain the necessary work skills for his or her future job career. Moreover, the job that a person gets after college can outweigh the money and time the person spent in college. College graduates will be more favorable to have a better job than those who does not have a college degree. As our generation is rapidly changing, the work- force is getting tougher which means having a higher education is important in today’s world. Having a college degree is an obvious part of the candidate and is expected by the many employers. Nonetheless, going to college can also give students the opportunity network and develop personal connections among other students who are also interested in the career field.

A college degree is a valuable asset that could ultimately lead to a productive life in society due to the received education, but people without a college degree do turn out more than adequate in regards to societal success. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, of the forecasted 30 fastest growing jobs between 2010 and 2020, five do not require a high school diploma, nine require a high school diploma, four require an associate 's degree, six require a bachelor 's degree, and six require graduate degrees to get the jobs (College). As the economy becomes more technologically complex, the amount of education that people need will rise. At some point, 15 years or 17 years of education will make more sense as a universal goal.” Education in our current society is a big part of every individual's future. Without a college education, there are countless of jobs that you can be left out of your reach. The higher education you have the better job you are open to and the less of an education you have the lower paying jobs you are allowed to have.

The video states “Children of parents with a college degree are much more likely to be read to every day than children of parents with only a high school diploma.”, showing that 41% of children were read to with parents of a High School Diploma, compared to 68% of children being read to with parents of a 4-year College Degree. The video also states, 40% of High School Diploma individuals in the age range of 18 to 24 are likely to vote in the 2008 election compared to the 70% of 4-year college diploma individuals who are more likely to vote. ‘Five Ways Ed Pays’ also showed that 43% of college graduates were more likely to volunteer as to the 19% of high school graduates likely to volunteer, stating that “Individuals with a college degree are more than twice as likely to volunteer as those with only a high school diploma.” All the information accumulated proves that college also improves a person’s social skills and improves the way they interact with those around
