So recently, I got into a heated discussion with an associate about the supposed suicide of Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain. This began friendly enough but quickly spiraled into both my associate and I just being rude to each other. This started because back in June of this year a documentary was released entitled Soaked in Bleach, which was quite revealing. In it, the former Seattle, WA chief of police Norm Stamper stated that, "We should in fact have taken steps to study patterns involved in the behavior of key individuals who had a motive to see Kurt Cobain dead. If in fact Kurt Cobain was murdered, as opposed to having committed suicide, and it was possible to learn that, shame on us for not doing that. That was in fact our responsibility. From my perspective, I think that both of us were trying to act as if we were an authority, me because of the recent information that confirmed my ideas, and my associate, based solely on how he felt. We were both more concerned with being right than we were concerned about our association. Neither of us communicated with respect, but with authority. We were both applying a win-lose approach to conflict. By the end, we were just trying to make the other look stupid, not trying to help the other save face. Moreover, I did not think of how my actions would make me feel in the future. By the end, I was only trying to make him feel bad so he would just leave me alone. I would like to add that even now this former associate and I still do not speak to each other. There are times that I miss the convenience of our association, but mostly I am glad it ended and do not regret it ending. Nevertheless, I sometimes regret how it ended.
