Lubrano claims that educations takes students farther on the road to success and farther from their family, especially the one belonging to the working class. Students have to take a distance from their parents, with whom they have increasingly less to converse about as they progress up the college ladder. Lubrano suggests that more distant working-class students are form their parents the more likely are to succeed in college.
