Lacrosse is the fasting growing youth sport in the world. The game has been played since the early 1600s by Native American tribes. Lacrosse is described by players as a game that combines the player movement and passing of basketball with the stick skills, shooting, and hitting of hockey to create a high scoring, action-packed game we know as lacrosse. So you’re probably asking “how can I play lacrosse”, well lacrosse is a game that anyone can play it’s fairly easy to pick up and with enough time even the most novice of players can be an expert. In this paper we will explore the basic rules and regulations of lacrosse, the positions of lacrosse, and the equipment one will need to play lacrosse. Lacrosse is a game that can be enjoyed at any age by anyone. In order to play lacrosse one must first know the rules and regulations. The rules and regulations are fairly easy to learn and once you know them you will never forget. Lacrosse is played with ten players on the field at a time nine position players and the goalie, will discuss positions at a later time. A game starts when all players line up in there given positions and get set for faceoff. In a faceoff players get down to attempt to trap the ball with the head of your stick and gain possession for your team. Once one team has possession you now are on either defenses or offence. The offence is trying to take the ball to the opponent side of the field and put the ball in the goal on the opposition’s side of the field.
Kyle Spain Professor Jennings-Alexander Composition February 19, 2018 The Story of Lacrosse It all started with the American Indians playing around and, soon enough they made a game called Stickball. It’s exclusively a male sport that is commonly alike with other sports. A netted racquet was used to scoop or catch the ball or even convey it into or past a goal to score the point. A cardinal rule was the Lacrosse ball cannot be touched by your hands.
The lacrosse field has certain measurements and lines on it. The field is played on a 110 yd. (100 m.) long and 60 yd. (55 m.) wide field. There are five lines or areas of the field, one of them is the midfield line, which divides the whole field into two, so the sides are 50 m. on each side. Another area of the field is the defense and attack area. The lines are marked 35 yards from the end of the field. Theses markers and areas of the field are very important to the game because that's how you play the game and where you're supposed to
The goals were usually marked by a single tree or a large rock, and points were scored by hitting it with the ball. There were no limitations on the number of players on a team, and often there would be as many as one thousand players in a lacrosse game at the same time (Source A).
The purpose of this paper is to argue the fact that youth sports are not becoming too intense. After reading the New York Times article I decided to pick this topic and argue against this theory because as a division one athlete I have my own opinions. I picked three sources which can back up and prove that sports being too intense is very much your own opinion.
Everyone enjoys being healthy, and playing sports is one way to achieve being healthy. Most people enjoy watching or playing sports. Parents usually enroll their children to play sports at a young age. Lacrosse and soccer are two great sports to stay healthy, search for great opportunity; however, both cost money to play competitively. Soccer is better in all three of these regards. Soccer has more opportunity and is less expensive. Lacrosse and soccer players are equally healthy, built differently in regard to the respective sport, but healthy nonetheless.
Lacrosse is one of the oldest sports in history, and it is interesting to see how the sport has changed since it was created.
Lacrosse, through my viewpoint, helps me everyday. First, some benefits lacrosse has given me are learning to be a team player, a leader as the goalie, and skills in communicating from player to player. For example, I have to conduct my defense if the team will function. I am always trying to direct and figure out who to watch as a threat, who is open, and who needs to pick up a driving player. These beneficial components in my life from lacrosse show me how to be a friend and part of a team, and a leader when others need quick guidance. In addition, some lessons lacrosse has taught me are that you cannot always win, you have to play as a team, and to loosen up. First, being a goalie, it is stressful when the team gets down and we might not win. I feel responsible for the loss and feel extremely upset when I let my team down. As my
Lacrosse is a physical sport between two teams. The game is pretty simple you are using a long stick and a little ball the stick has a net at the end of it so that you may pass or catch the ball or also scoop it if it no somebody drops it or they throw it at the ground. Lacrosse is defined as a ball game invented by American Indians, now played by two teams who try to propel a ball into each other's goal by means of long-handled hooked sticks that are loosely strung with a kind of netted pouch (Farlex, Inc.). Behind every shot taken in a lacrosse game, elements of biomechanics are implemented. Biomechanics is the “sport science” field that applies the laws of mechanics (movements, body angles, joint positions, etc.), biomedical engineering, and physics (gravity, forces, velocities, etc.) to athletic performance (What is 3D Biomechanics).
The fastest growing sport in America is lacrosse, and in order to play lacrosse, it is important to first understand the physics of the game. Lacrosse players around the world use physics while playing without even thinking about it. With no knowledge of physics, it would be pretty difficult to master the fastest game on two feet. One of the worlds greatest scientist, Isaac Newton, established three laws dealing with physics, and using these laws will make it possible for a lacrosse player to understand what he or she needs to do in order to throw a ball. Newtons first law deals with inertia, his second law deals with the relationship between mass, acceleration and force, and his third law deals with opposite reactions. When talking about lacrosse, it is essential to cover Newton’s first law, his second law, and his third law in order to understand the physics behind throwing a lacrosse ball. .
A high intensity game that involves physical attributes and cognitive awareness describes the sport lacrosse. People play lacrosse all over the world and the sport continues to grow in size. The sport lacrosse dates all the way back to when Indians would play for land and resources. The word lacrosse translates to “Little Brother of War”. Men and women of all ages and levels play the game lacrosse to this day. At the Eastern Cincinnati Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio, the sport lacrosse qualifies as a club rather than a sport. The sport lacrosse should qualify as a sport because it would reduce costs, more players would join, it offers benefits, and people would consider lacrosse as a more serious sport.
Lastly but equally important out of the three steps is to get the ball out of the net. If you're left handed, when you throw the ball you’re going to step with your left foot. If you are right handed, when you throw the ball you are going to step with your right foot. When you are stepping to throw the ball you whip the lacrosse stick forward snapping the ball out of the
I’m a jr lacrosse player and I’m also able to play up as a sr lacrosse player. Since I’m a sr and jr, I was in South Windsor for 8-9 hours playing for only 200 minutes in total. All of the games that my team and I played were only 25-30 minute games but since I was there all day, it felt like I was there for EVER! The fun thing was I got to hang out with my lacrosse team for the whole day and won together and lost together as a team. Not one of us wasn’t able to score at least one goal during the sr games because they were easy to get by but not so easy to stop. The easiest teams that we were easy to beat by 10 points was Ellington. All of the players on every team played dirty, and were TALL! I felt like a little 2 year old playing against them! On one of the teams they had a 9th grader that wasn’t allowed to be on the team and when the coach on my team found out, they had to forfeit the game, so we won
Lacrosse is the oldest team sport in North America, having been played by Native American tribes long before any European had even set foot on the continent. A century after European missionaries discovered the game played by Native Americans, they began to play it themselves, starting in the 18th century. From there, it evolved and grew in popularity from a very savage game that resembled war, into what it is today, a recreational sport played widely in America and other countries. As U.S. Lacrosse literature aptly puts it "Lacrosse is a game born of the North American Indian, christened by the French, adopted and raised by the Canadians, and later dominated by the Americans."
Now in modern lacrosse there are Rules, positions, and equipment. At First players would get hurt from getting body checked with the opponent's head causing both players to get hurt. At First players would get hurt from getting body checked with the opponent's head causing both players to get hurt. Also when lacrosse first started there was no boundaries and the players could go anywhere.
