Within one’s life we often face a choice that we make out of impulse because of what the result may be. Whether the outcome may seem good, the consequences of what could happen are blindly acknowledged. In William Shakespeare's play Macbeth, the plot revolves around the main character Macbeth fulfilling the three prophecies given by witches which involve murder. Macbeth is faced to make decisions that he cannot make on his own - his wife, Lady Macbeth aids in these choices. Lady Macbeth is portrayed as being manipulative, ambitious and eventually mentally unstable. These qualities lead not only to Macbeth’s downfall but it affects Macbeth’s being as well.
At the beginning of the play, Lady Macbeth’s standout trait of being manipulative is

When Lady Macbeth discovers that Macbeth has the chance to overthrow Duncan, it appears her character is even more excited about this idea than her husband is. Due to this, she is given the drive to manipulate Macbeth into murdering King Duncan. Lady Macbeth wants the ability to murder Duncan herself, but she believes that needs to be “unsexed” from her gender to have the cruelty to murder Duncan (1, 5) She even states that she would do it herself, only if, “Had he [the King] not resembled / [Her] father as he slept, [she] had done ’t. (2, 2, 12-13).” Since Lady Macbeth can’t put herself to do this but is still ambitious about the idea, she uses the manipulation factor. Lady Macbeth’s ambition is what affects Macbeth because what she motivated to do, also influences her husband. The great ambition that she possesses is a trailing thought in her mind and she makes it her plan to make sure her husband will also have the same ambition. If Lady Macbeth was not as ambitious as she was, she would have not gone through with idea of the murder of the King. Without Lady Macbeth’s ambition, Macbeth would have never murdered King Duncan which is the main reason his character traits turned the complete opposite and created the downfall of the …show more content…
This proves that Lady Macbeth’s traits at the beginning of the play are what also affects her traits at the end of the play. This not only connects to Lady Macbeth but Macbeth as well because when Lady Macbeth dies, her husband does not seem to take the time to mourn but believes it is her death would have eventually happen (5, 7). This shows how Macbeth’s character has also changed in a lot of ways. After the murder of Duncan, Lady Macbeth carried a large amount of guilt inside of her which eventually caused her to insane. Lady Macbeth first believed she would carry through with her plan as she was being highly ambitious, whereas Macbeth was cowardly. Now the roles of both characters have switched, displaying Macbeth as mighty and strong, and Lady Macbeth appearing very
Lady Macbeth provides a scheme for Macbeth to assassinate the King. She is manipulative and persuasive in corrupting Macbeth s judgement. “What beast was’t then that you break this enterprise to me? When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man.” (Act I. Sc.VII) In this quote, Lady Macbeth is agitating Macbeth by saying he is not a man if he does not do what he says he is going to do, which is to murder the king of course.
When Macbeth and Lady Macbeth decide to kill Duncan they both have different reactions. Lady Macbeth is making her conscious more manly and
of the situation and to show that she now has the upper hand in their
women, money, power. These were all three things that tempted Macbeth. Lady Macbeth seems quite the contrary to how women in Elizabethan England would have been, the only women were able to obtain power was by influencing their husbands. This was a great advantage of Lady Macbeth’s on which she played and used very successfully. She was able to influence her husband so strongly that she convinced him willingly into committing murder willingly; Shakespeare displays the strength of power that women have the ability to possess if they wish, he conveys women as sneaky and willing to result to extreme tactics to get their own way; it shows just how dangerous women can be. Shakespeare uses Lady Macbeth as an icon for powerful women.
Lady Macbeth in the beginning of the play is very manipulative, most of the times she manipulates her husband into doing either what she wants or what she thinks should do. Even though, Lady Macbeth is a woman she single-handedly planned Duncan’s murder, from how to execute it and how to pin it on someone else and at some points Macbeth did not want to do it, but she manipulated him into it. For example, when Macbeth does not want to carry one with this plan, Lady Macbeth convinces him by saying “from this time such I account thy love. Art thou afeared to be the same in thine own act and valor as thou art in desire? (I.vii line 38-41), in this this quote lady Macbeths is influencing her husband’s feelings. This is because she is challenging
Ambition plays a large role in this tragedy. Both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have a very srtong ambition that drives them. Lady Macbeth's ambition drives her to manipulate Macbeth into committing murder. Macbeth's aggressive ambition is present before the witch's
The relationship Shakespeare created between Lady Macbeth and Macbeth, and the characterization of Lady Macbeth brought about his downfall. Lady Macbeth sees herself differently than others see her; while she thinks highly of herself, others see her as hard to work with. In II.II.64-65, Lady Macbeth talks about herself, but it is more than opposite of how you can describe Lady Macbeth. She uses a heart so white to represent an innocent soul as well as light imagery to show weakness and fragility: “My hands are as red as yours, but I would be ashamed if my heart were as pale and weak.” Lady Macbeth does not want anyone to see what she will do, and
In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Lady Macbeth’s desire and ambition leads to her eventual downfall. When Lady Macbeth hears of Macbeth’s prophecy she dreams of the glory and high-standing that awaits being queen. She cannot withhold her ambitions and she is willing to manipulate fate to bring about Macbeth’s prophecy. She invokes evil spirits to be filled from head to toe with cruelty to do the evil actions necessary to make Macbeth king and to remove all remorse and pity for her action from her heart. She is initially able to be involved in the treacherous deeds that are needed to bring about the prophecy quickly, but as the play progresses the weight of the merciless deeds fill her with remorse. The remorse and pain she feels for her wicked
In life, there are two types of people: those who do the right thing and those who don’t. In the play Macbeth, by Shakespeare, the main character Macbeth is given a prophecy by three witches that says he will become king; however, there is no descending line of kings of his own blood. With the knowledge of the Witches’ prophecy, Macbeth’s ambition, and manipulation from his wife, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth is quickly dragged into a never-ending, bloody murder rampage to obtain the crown and get rid of those who stand in the way of obtaining it as well. Macbeth constantly battles with his moral dilemmas; however, he easily falls victim to influences that go against his morals. Influences on major characters emphasize how easily one’s decision making can be negatively affected, resulting in one going against his or her morals/integrity.
Each action made by an individual is nothing more than a step closer to his or her death. In fact, the approach one takes towards his or her death is the result of either fate or free will. This concept of fate and free will in a person’s life is best explored in William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. In the play, the protagonist Macbeth allows external influences such as the witches and his wife, Lady Macbeth, to rule his actions which leads Macbeth to his ultimate demise and the demise of everything around him.
In the play Macbeth, Shakespeare introduces one of his most merciless and devilish characters. With this description, one often thinks of a man, but surprisingly Shakespeare introduces a dangerous woman in Lady Macbeth as the dominant force, which encourages Macbeth to commit murder. Shakespeare also reveals in Lady Macbeth’s character the guilt one feels after committing such crimes onto others. Ambition and guilt are the main themes in Shakespeare’s Macbeth and he provides an excellent display of how these two traits can destroy the lives of many.
In Shakespeare’s play ‘Macbeth’ there are a plethora of reasons as to why Macbeth was doomed by a flaw in his character instead of by his fate. Macbeth's ambitious nature and greed for power was the flaw in his character that eventually led to the death of Macbeth. However, Lady Macbeth also shows an affect on the flaws of Macbeth’s character with how she is also ambitious to be the Queen. This shows that Macbeth is not doomed by fate but by the flaw of greed, ambition and force of Lady Macbeth.
Many of people have heard the tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare. The story revolves on a sequence of misfortunate events that take place when Macbeth makes immoral decisions to be king. In the play, Shakespeare shows how power can cause corruption in a human’s brain. Macbeth himself was not a very confident person, though he had a kind soul to begin with, he was easily influenced and gullible. Through the prophecies of the evil beings, an insignificant seed was planted in Macbeth. That spark of wealth and fortune caused the tyrant within him to awake. Which eventually lead to his fatal death. His ambition lead him to murder, go insane and become very superstitious.
Lady Macbeth is the driving force that encourages Macbeth to overcome his strong sense of guilt and take action on the prophecies. She is plotting for King Duncan’s murder to get the throne of Scotland. She is stronger, ambitious, and greedy than her husband. Lady Macbeth persistently taunts her husband for his lack of courage and challenges Macbeth to commit murder of King Duncan. Specifically, she mocked the masculinity of Macbeth in order to commit the murder. She said “But screw your courage to the sticking-place, And we'll not fail”. In this regard, Lady Macbeth appears to switch characters with Macbeth midway through the play. Although most famous for her cruelty and lines such as "unsex me here," the decline of Lady Macbeth is also of great interest and certainly a mysterious aspect of Macbeth.
As I begin to snap out of my trans filled with shimmery gold platters, gorgeous goblets, and a feast that seems to go for miles I look over at our new King Macbeth acting very odd. He had a disturbed look on his face and I wasn't the only one that noticed. A brunette man by the name of Lennox as his name stand said seemed to be giving a questioning look to the new King.
