INTERCEPTION OF PAST IN PINTER’s MEMORY PLAYS Harold Pinter was born on October 10, 1930 in Hackney, East London in a Jewish family. Pinter, a multi-faceted genius, has not only achieved unbeatable success in the field of drama but also in the field of poetry, novel writing, film script writing, screenplay writing etc. He always remained the reflecting mirror of the society of his time. The modern man is everywhere the subject-matter of his investigation. He deals with modern man’s psychology, the problems he is facing in society, with the social systems which are like chains in his feet, the political system, his hidden fears, hopes and ambitions. Pinter’s plays, between 1968 and 1982, deal with mind and memory. He has given his attention to man’s past and its impact and importance in his present. There are flashbacks and reminiscences of the past by the characters. Sometimes they give strength to him and sometimes they even torment him, making his present a puzzling, disturbed experience. So Pinter has dealt with most common human problems relating to personal relationships like marriage, friendship, and other family relationships. The play Landscape was staged on 2nd July 1969. It shows the difficulties of communication between two people – Beth and Duff. Landscape is often studied, read and performed alongside another one-act play Silence. Pinter’s characters have always been fond of reverie from his first play The Room onwards. But here in case of Landscape
Evidently, Death by Landscape' might be showing the being of two egos in one's social life. During a
Set in a typical mental asylum in the 1970’s during the anti-Vietnam War protests and the feminist movement for women's equal rights, the play 'Cosi' by Louis Nowra deeply explores the themes of love and fidelity, in a society predominantly concerned with war and politics. Throughout the play, Nowra uses the play within a play, 'Cosi Fan Tutte', to convey his key values regarding the importance of love and fidelity in today's world, while questioning the necessity of war and condemning society's perceptions of madness itself. The playwright delivers these messages through a number of subtle implications and symbolic features which are evident in the story,
In the play Cosi Louis Nowra challenges the important themes of love, fidelity, sanity and insanity within a range of dramatic techniques. Cosi is set in Melbourne, during the early 1970’s. Numerous political and radical events were occurring. The Vietnam War protest was raging, the sexual revolution was rolling, and mental illness was still misunderstood and mistreated. Due to these contexts, love, fidelity, sanity and insanity are big issues that surface throughout the play. Nowra comments on society’s issues. Firstly, he uses dialogue to convey the characters various thoughts and feelings towards these issues.
The memories also play a dual role as they make the man hopeful yet they also scare him because he is afraid that through remembering things again and again he might taint his memories of the good times forever. “He thought each memory recalled must do some violence to its origins. As in a party game. Say the word and pass it on. So be sparing. What you alter in the remembering has yet a reality, known or not.” (McCarthy 51). The boy although carries on hoping even though all he has are memories of the polluted grey ashes that have always been falling from the sky, the ashes that he was born into. The child has no memories of a past world that held beauty and color and so he relies on his father’s accounts and stories of the past to imagine a world that was anything but the bleakness that he is so accustomed to. But the father, although mostly indulges to the child’s wishes, sometimes cannot bring himself to tell him made up stories of the past because as much as he wants to he cannot remember a lot of it and when he does remember it, it reminds of a world that is no more and that he does not know will ever come back into existence or not. “What would you like? But he stopped making things up because those things were not true either and the telling made him feel bad.” (McCarthy 22). Where at first the child believes the father’s accounts of heroes and stories of courage
Edward Albee was an American playwright producer and director. He was born on March 12, 1928 probably in Virginia. He was adopted at an early age, which influenced him to write about characters that are different. His writings were characterized by realism; fidelity to life as perceived and experienced, and were considered to be absurd dramas. Albee, in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, portrays a primitive sex struggle between a middle aged couple; the relationship between George and Martha is acted out in a series of games in which one sex dominates the other through unapparent love, weapons that each have mastered, and the most hurtful insult, the revealing of the hidden truth.
Many people love romantic comedies. Some of these stories are based around misunderstandings, which add humor to the plot. This, of course is similar to Rostand’s play Cyrano De Bergerac, but Ibsen’s play, A Doll’s House, is centered around a relationship full of deceit. It has a pleasant facade, but when the viewer digs deeper into it, they find out the dark reality of the relationship of the main couple. Communication is vital to any relationship. A group of friends need to communicate openly in order to remain friends. The same thing applies to spouses. For the purpose of this essay, Cyrano and Roxane from Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac, and Nora and Torvald from Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House” will be compared. The relationships of Nora and Torvald, and Roxane and Cyrano are different in many ways but they have one thing in common, a lack of communication. Thus, by this

Memories can in a way define who we are and how we progress through life. Memories can be a pathway to either follow the straight and narrow or to have us decide which fork of the road to take. Past memories can help to identify a person and can effect the future that follows. Through the journy of self discovery, Marshall’s Praisesong for the Widow and Danticat’s Breath, Eyes, Memory suggest one must relive past and present memories to find their true identity in the future.
The significance of playwright August Wilson's memories are assessed by Sandra G. Shannon in her essay “The Rose of Memory in August Wilson's Four-Hundred-Year Autobiography” (1996). Shannon details parallels between Wilson's mother, Daisy, his stepfather, David Bedford, and Rose and Troy Maxson. Similarly, Wilson's stepfather and Troy Maxson played sports, served time in prison, and could only obtain sanitation jobs. Equally important, Wilson's mother Daisy and Rose Maxson are both “extremely tolerant, self-sacrificing” (Shannon) mothers.

What people overlook in this film is the last two ways; the husband and wife, as well as, the man and woman. For this particular film the relationships of man and woman and husband and wife, will be the primary focus of this paper. They are very similar to one another, but it is also extremely important to look at them separately. In this film the husbands pretty much control everything about their wives.
Many property managers have a great deal of experience ensuring that the landscaping is maintained, handling requests from tenants and scheduling maintenance for the HVAC equipment. In many cases, however, they have less experience when it comes to the property's paved areas. Therefore, it is common for sealcoating professionals to find that property managers do not realize all of the preparation that goes into a quality sealcoating job. When property managers are willing to become involved in the preparation, the job can be completed faster, there will be less disruption, the pavement can be opened faster and the work area will be safer for the contractor's crew as well as the people who work at or visit the property.

Gardens, the final frontier. When I was little my mom and I would rototill our yard and dig out a couple trenches. After we dug out the trenches my mom and I would spend a couple of hours walking around the garden section of Lowes, we would find several veggie plants that we would then take home for the home-made garden. Her and I would sit outside for hours as she taught me how to plant the veggies and take care of the roots and put them in the dirt the right way. She would have me take care the plants in the garden that I wanted to plant and she would teach me the proper way to do it. She taught me the responsibility of planting a garden and then taking care of it, she taught me that you can not give up on something just because it is too hard or too much work. See, Gardens can be used for much more than just farming and gaining crops, these gardens can be used to teach children, help
Death Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1964, which caused countless riots throughout hundreds of cities. This was one of the many reasons in which the civil rights movement gained the attention that it did. He was immortalized through his death and became a symbol for what he stood for and eulogizing him and his cause. In the stories “Death by Landscape,” "Persimmons" and "The Handsomest Drowned Man in The World," characters are immortalized through their deaths, becoming idolized and eulogized, which have varying effects on the communities and people.
