Patton Jr., had a number of leadership strength that was indicative of his weakness. As for example, General George S. Patton Jr., joined West Point and within the first year, was expelled due to Academic performance. However, Patton was a determined person and became energized by this failure being disappointed in himself endeavoring to persevere; he marshaled himself, tried again, succeeding as second highest rank graduating. However, during his completely successful career he remained deficient in spelling. He would become known for being able to learn from his failures turning a negative situation in to a positive one by engaging his personal …show more content…
Patton Jr. was an inspirational leader, couple of statements are "We shall attack and attack until we are exhausted, and then we shall attack again,"; “Some goddamn fool once said that flanks have got to be secure. ... I don't agree with that. My flanks are something for the enemy to worry about, not me. Before he finds out where my flanks are, I'll be cutting the bastard's throat." Patton was known to give instruction loud and dirty, lurid vocabulary. However, an incident occurred that resulted in General Patton being intolerant, and slapping a soldier in Sicilian campaign suffering from shell shock, known today as PTSD Post traumatic stress disorder that almost removed him from command as well as postponing his Major General rank to be postponed for a close to a year. General George S. Patton Jr., was only capable of understanding the soldier’s actions as a form of cowardice and malingerer, not a difference in personal best and according to Patton when investigated, he attempted to shock him back to be a man and a soldier restoring the soldier’s dignity. He continually was forward moving persona, was not one to waste time with second guessing, doubts or
General Patton did an outstanding job demonstrating the four of the six steps of Mission Command during the Battle of the Bulge. The forces that General Patton led were subjected to a stern leadership and instilled tighter discipline than any other American field forces in World War II. General Patton lived by a few principles daily and one of those include a quote he made of his own “say what you mean, and mean what you say.” An example of his quote he enforced in his soldiers that he made sure that regulations concerning uniforms were rigidly enforced, and on many occasions he imposed fines or other punishments when he found his men on front lines violating the rules he

Secondly this speech is very focused on a purpose, to motivate the listener, give confidence, and hope. General George S. Patton motivates by taking in consideration for his audience and exploiting it. The listeners are all inexperienced soldiers who are scared of going into combat for the first time. Patton already has a reputation of being a hardcore successful, seasoned general. Everyone looks up to him and he uses lines such as “That's why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war.” to motivate people. When the soldiers of the Third Army hear Patton talk about how “All real Americans love to fight” it motivates all these very patriotic people because they link their love of country to loving the fight. Another great is example is when Patton states “And we have the best team—we have the finest food and equipment, the best spirit and the best men in the world. Why, by God, I actually pity these poor bastards we're going up against.”. Patton is making everything sound great saying that they have the best of everything, that they can't lose, and even that they have it so good he actually feels sorry for the people they are going up against. These examples are textbook motivation and it really makes Patton
Leadership can be defined as the process of identifying a goal, motivating others, and make them to achieve the mutually goals (Giltinane, 2013). According to Humphreys (2002), successful leaders do this by applying their leadership knowledge and skills. A good leadership is not only good at management, but also use different leadership styles in different situations. A successful corporation must has a good leader who have the flexible ability which can provide a suitable leadership to make the company successful. Furthermore, there have no perfect leadership styles in the world. Different leader have different leadership styles which also have the different strengths and weaknesses (Ali & Waqar, 2013). Leaders need to consider
Although at first glance General George S. Patton is anything but creative, if you think about it, he is one of the most creative people of all time. Both his battle strategies and speeches were creative, bold, and extremely powerful. Each of his speeches, particularly his speech to the Third Army, are some of the most powerful and motivated I have read. Each and every speech he spoke riled his troops and made them want to crush the Nazis and win the war. Many people dislike Patton and his speeches because of his vulgar language, but there is no denying the effect the speeches had on the troops who served under him and the power in each word he spoke. http://www.wjpbr.com/patton.html
A1. Leadership Style Upon conducting research, it is clear that the definition of “leadership” is not agreed upon. It is fluid, based upon many perceptions, situations, and surroundings. According to Robinson (2010), adopting a specific style of leadership is rather futile as it is, “contingent on the personal traits of the leader, the people being led, and the nature of the activity.” Tools are available to help guide potential leaders in determining a preferred style of leadership. For example, utilizing the “Leadership Self-Assessment
An effective leader must have a plan for success. This includes a personal plan of growth as well as a professional plan for improvement. This paper will attempt to highlight my personal strengths and weaknesses as leader, identify the areas needed for improvement, and identify the leadership skills and practices that I will use to become an effective leader. This paper will also give an outline of the goals that I consider a priority and a timeline for this development. The overall result will be an inclusive leadership plan of development that I will use to grow myself as well as any organization that I work for in the future.

The famous but also infamous General of the 7th Army General George S. Patton would help lead the Allies to a victory in Europe on the Western Front. The way General Patton would lead his army would help him become a good soldier, strike fear into his enemies, and he had ended up being harsh leader. Patton was a good soldier because he had wanted to always win the battle so he had strived to be the best he could. Patton was able to strike fear into his enemies because he and his army were one of the best that went through Europe during WW2. General Patton was also a harsh leader because he he had slapped two different soldiers at two different times. These slapping incidents had started to lead to the downfall one of the best Generals who
Holistically, in order to determine what makes an individual an effective leader or a misleader, one must first understand the aspects of leadership. While it is impossible to condense what makes a leader into a short list of qualities and ideas, for the intent of this paper, the comparative aspects of leadership will be limited to: character, skills/talent, and results.
