“As a professional athlete a lot is going to be said about you - but I just try to move forward and try to achieve my goals” (“LeBron James”). Every athlete goes through media scrutiny but James’ ride through the media is like no other. LeBron James was born in 1984 with no father and just his mom in Akron, Ohio. They moved couch to couch and some nights were on the streets until his mom let him stay with his football coach until she could get back on her feet. James grew up to be an NBA superstar straight out of high school and is one of the most supernatural and versatile players in the league. He was drafted number one overall by his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, in 2003 and the city, the team, and James grew together. He …show more content…
The media broadcasted his decision and began reporting what he did or said subsequent to his decision. LeBron James' basketball ability urges the media to report and often criticize everything he does. The media focus on James has been going on for years, since he’s been a big name in the league for almost a decade now. It started when James made his first decision to leave Cleveland and go to Miami to join the Heat. ESPN made James looking like a diva as they set up his decision in 2010 with an hour long TV special that ended with James taking his talents to South Beach (Heisler). However, they neglected to mention the 3 million dollars the show was making, which James donated to charity. James was the main person blamed for this TV special, but he made no money on it and it wasn’t even his idea. It was ESPN. ESPN controls sports media which gave them the power to hype up the sickening decision that James had to make in the offseason. Viewers ate it up so they decided to broadcast his decision to up their viewership even more than the hype did. Every NBA season many players enter free agency and have the option to sign with a different team and not once has there been a television special …show more content…
He’s had fans in Cleveland since he was a rising star in high school and was drafted straight to the NBA by the Cavaliers and by then everyone in Ohio knew who James was. When James was in Cleveland for his first seven years he turned the Cavaliers from a mediocre team with hardly any arena attendance to championship contenders with sold-out crowds. His owner that had the audacity to talk poorly about James was making the most money off of James not to mention that Cleveland’s economy took a huge jump pouring in millions of dollars per year (Groves). Now that the man Cleveland once loved is coming back he’s predicted to restore his Cleveland fans faster than he lost them. They know James as the superstar he is, including his unselfish play style that has shown off the court as he’s thinking more about Cleveland with this decision rather than himself (Lariviere). He has realized that his relationship with Ohio is “bigger than basketball” and made the decision through that perspective (Cohen). Through all the controversies and problems made by James and mostly the media, he’s still been able to keep his success going and decided to patch up a

Lebron James is the MVP (Most Valuable Player), for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He lead the team to the championship in basketball and won it all. Earlier that year Lebron came back to Cleveland Cavaliers from the Miami Heat with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Why leave when you have a big 3 on your team? He said he wanted to go home for his last few years of basketball. If you ask me I think he'll be in the league for at least more 5 years. Lebron is seventh on all time scoring 200 point over Shaquille O'Neal.
LeBron Raymone James was born on December 30, 1984 in Akron, Ohio to a 16-year-old mother, Gloria Marie James, who raised the child on her own. When James was growing up, life was often a struggle for the family, as they moved from apartment to apartment in the seedier neighborhoods of Akron while Gloria struggled to find steady work. Realizing that her son would be better off in a more stable family environment, Gloria allowed him to move in with the family of Frank Walker, a local youth football coach, who introduced James to basketball when he was nine years old. While james was young he played AAU ball . LeBron James is similar to Magic Johnson. He did want to be a football player but he found something new.He wanted to play basketball. He used to make free throws by dunking them, causing the NCAA to make them change the rules.
Point of View- It is not surprising that Cleveland would say this because he helped start the Gold Standard and does not want to back down on his actions.
Kevin Durant lost the semi-finals in 2016 against golden state warriors and in 2017 he joined golden state warriors. He said “if you can’t beat them, join them.” That left a lot of hate from his teammates and his fans. At this moment we burned all our jerseys on Kevin because of how much we hate him for what he did. Same with other players, it’s really hard to see our favourite players leave their team.
When looking at Jordan and James’ fame, they are both equally popular, but it is how they handle the fame that sets them apart. Jordan is a class act, meaning he carries himself with honorable pride, not vanity. After Jordan signed with Nike his game only got better. He never felt as if he was too good for improvement and showed everyone great respect. James differs after he signed with Nike, his game flat-lined. He never showed any kind of improvement in his game, and his team never got any better. It seemed like he only tried when he had the ball, especially when his team was getting blown out.
The hundreds of millions of dollars that LeBron James brings into the Cleveland Cavaliers organization and the city of Cleveland each year justifies his influence on front office decisions.
“Because of you Pops! Thanks all along I could have said, ‘Why me?’ With you not being there but look what I made of myself” (thepostgame.com). Lebron explains of his struggles in an interview and how it has become his motivation. Due to his rough childhood, high school years, NBA career, and his impact off the court LeBron has rightly earned his name “King James”.
Lebron had a tough childhood growing up with very little. His mother battled many personal problems while raising Lebron. Some of these problems were brought from her mothers death. His mother could never keep a job so they bounced from apartment to apartment. Despite his mothers struggles she worked hard to shield Lebron from poverty, violence and the streets. This was very tough for his mother so sometime it made it puzzling for her to find a boyfriend. When Lebron was two she started dating Eddie Jackson who was in and out of trouble. Lebron liked having a father figure around but Jackson was sent to jail for drug trafficking and mortgage fraud. Lebron's brothers Terry and Curt had to step up and fill in and help out. Lebron played wide
Lebron James, the first pick taken in this year’s draft, may be the prototype for an athlete having immediate fame and wealth by jumping straight to the NBA. Almost undoubtedly, he has set the bar for years to come. Before he even played in an actual NBA game, he already had his own commercial and shoe deals. When he was a senior in high school, ESPN and ESPN2 were already publicizing his regular season games whenever they had the chance. Amazingly, as a junior in high school, he was already being considered the next Michael Jordan (Broussard).
When it comes to sports media I feel like the reporters can push professional athletes buttons by asking outrageous questions that relates to racism and also inappropriate remarks. In sports news lately has been some very shocking incidents related into the African American culture with players doing acts out of character.
While James was in high school he excelled in two sports, football and his more known sport, basketball. LeBron excelled greatly in football, he was named All-State wide receiver in his sophmore year (Smithwick 10). His mom was worried about James and wanted him to quit football, so he wouldn’t get hurt. Later he broke his finger in a football game and his mother made him quit. When he was in high school, James made the rounds of the postseason all-star games, and he earned most valuable player of the year award at the McDonald’s High School All-American Game (Newsmakers B2). LeBron wanted to skip his senior year to enter into the NBA draft, but was against NBA rules, so he returned to high school now the most famous high school player. Even before James entered the NBA draft he had already signed a $90 million contract with the brand Nike (Contemporary C4). LeBron James entered the NBA draft in the summer of 2003, and was selected by the "struggling to make it in the NBA" Cleveland Cavaliers (Smithwick 14). The three year contract that James signed with the Cavaliers amounted to nothing beside the more than $100 million in endorsement contracts he has signed with Nike, Sprite, Powerade, Upper Deck Cards, and Bubblicious bubble gum. If it was anybody's guess, they would have said that James was going to play poorly in his first year, but he proved them wrong, everybody wrong. He was named rookie
