Who is William Penn some might ask? William Penn is the founder of the province of Pennsylvania. William Penn should be considered a hero because he saved a bunch of people from being treated
Charles Lee, a general in the American Revolutionary war, is a historic figure in American history. Serving under George Washington, Charles Lee participated in a number of battles. However, history says Charles Lee was treacherous to the cause, all the while that he was in command during that time; he was acting in bad faith toward the Americans. His influence in the army was, at all times, mischievous (General Charles Lee: Traitor of the American Revolution). To the British, Charles Lee was a traitor who turned on England to fight under George Washington. Due to Charles Lee’s treacherous actions against America, it would lead to his downfall in the

African Americans all over the world have sacrificed the things they love, and sometimes even their lives, for great causes and to protect others. In 1942, a courageous man named Clifford Chester Pittman was born in the small and peaceful town of Port St. Joe, Florida.

This trait in Ellis’s writing and teaching style is what really grabbed me and got me interested in the book. How wise is the person who realizes that as scholarly as they may be, there may always be a better opinion out there? Joseph has presented to me a most noble way to write. He has circumvented my prejudice against authors who insist that their ideas and methods are the only thoughts that exist.
Writing an excellent book, short story,or poem is an ability very few people posses : Nathaniel Hawthorne is someone who had this talent. Hawthorne's writing is mostly centered around romantic fiction, he has written a plethora of things but he is mostly remembered for his short stories and novels. Before divulging into his work, a reader should know where his writing comes from, his inspirations, originality and what some would call pure genius. The author, Nathaniel Hawthorne, is an individual whose work has been and should continue to be analyzed for years to come due to his unique twist on romantic fiction. Many of his works have casted a silhouette over America through his intricate stories and writing style that revealed the themes of psychology and human nature during the 19th century. Hawthorne’s ominous style makes his works into oddities compared to the other romantic fiction novels in his time. Many of his works, such as The Scarlet Letter, exemplifies the epitome of Hawthorne’s distinct outlook on the moralistic attitudes of
Women of all generations and ethnic backgrounds at one point did not have rights to participate in common privileges like voting, or the experience of being published as a female writer. My experience at Tia Chucha’s “In the Words of Womyn” workshop brought me back to life in a way, reminding me that I have the opportunity to express my emotions and thoughts freely through poetry or short stories. Realizing this early on helped for me to remember that there is definitely strength in numbers when it comes to women coming together as one powerful force. This type of mentality can help to inspire others who are afraid to go against the norm, and would instead be beneficial in helping them to express their thoughts. Being aware that women of the 21st century have the liberty to meet with other intelligent women who are extremely passionate about writing was such a comforting thought. It was also great to see that we have the ability to meet at our own discretion to discuss any topic that comes to mind is a privilege we often take for granted.
What have you been able to notice about Dillard’s writing style and technique in the two chapters we have read so far? Why do you think Dillard writes this way?
Adrian Barlow writes of Susan Hill’s Strange Meeting: “At the time of its publication, to write a novel about intense relationships between men in the First World War was considered an ambitious risk for a woman writer.” Compare and contrast the ways in which your three writers present relationships between men.
Benjamin Banneker’s letter to Thomas Jefferson, Framer of the Declaration of Independence and Secretary of State, and to President George Washington creates awareness of the oppressive conditions that the slaves had been in for years and his dissatisfaction towards his target audience’s actions. Banneker uses ethos, logos, pathos, irony, political diction, allusion, sarcasm, and tone to convey his message. He conveys an unpleasant tone in order to seriously convey his message and show the intensity of the situation he is talking about. However, there are parts of the letter where the tone is considerate and sympathetic in order to appeal to pathos.
Sympathy, another theme in this book, can have the same amount of impact on an individual. Instead of it having a negative reaction to the reader it has a superior reaction to the reader. ?Lee Chong? knew he could not have helped it, but he wished he might have known and perhaps tried to help. It was deeply a part of Lee?s kindness and understanding that man?s right to kill himself is inviolable, but sometimes a friend can make it unnecessary?(Page 2). Lee was having compassionate sentiments for the man who committed suicide. He had a deep feeling that he could of helped in someway to convince the man that his life was worth living. A side story that was important to the theme of Sympathy was a story about Mrs. Kitty Casini a mouse and Mary Talbot ?Kitty Casini had a mouse?Daintily she stabbed the mouse through the back and drew it wriggling to her and her tail flicked with tense delight? ?I can?t blame Kitty Casini? said Mary. ?I?m just not going to like her no matter how much I want to??(Pages 155-156). Mary had intense sympathy for that mouse that with no doubt died a tragic death. She went to the extreme of disliking on of her favorite cat. Sympathy can bring about the good in people. Sympathy for loved ones or strangers can surprise one for their intense emotions.
A well-known essayist with such toughness must probably been minutely mindful of people in general taste while additionally applying significant social impact on readers and authors. Subsequently, much basic talk of Southworth 's sensational fiction in later decades has attempted to clarify away the Southworth sensation by deprecating both her and her crowd. As the novel structure got to be progressively socially respectable, and abstract authenticity turned into the favored novelistic mode, sentimentalists like Southworth were made to connote what wasn 't right with prominent taste and in addition how mainstream essayists were falling flat in their commitment to lift general society to higher social level.
Throughout history, there has been an overarching theme that writers write about. Great authors write about what they know. They write about what they see. They write about what they hear. They write about personal experiences and incorporate details from their lives into their literature. Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird is a classical work that reflects the Civil Rights and Women’s Movement of the 1950’s-1960’s through her depiction of the relationship between blacks and whites and her portrayal of female characters.
