“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light” (Genesis 1:3). This sentence can be the most famous sentence that has ever been written. When the light was created, the faith of the universe, earth and humanity were completely redesigned. The control of our universe was given to its owner, light. We were born into a universe that light governs us. However, we couldn’t realize it in a short span of time. After that moment, the perception of humanity towards light, a mysterious phenomenon, has altered a lot; nevertheless, light has never lost its meaning of being fundamental for anything related to human, conversely, we discovered beyond what we knew about it.

“Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth” (Quran 24:35). In the holy books, God is always represented as “light” or a connection has been made. Heaven is full of divine light, and it is created by God for the symbolism of goodness in Heaven. Also, in Islam, angels are made of divine light. When it is considered that engels are the protectors of goodness, it is understood that light is used in a very positive meaning in Quran. Either God itself or something good is shown as light in holy books. Thereafter, the perception of humanity towards light changed into “holy”, by the each holy book written in the history. Also, religious leaders has an important effect on people. Jesus indicates, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12). It’s clear that the purpose of the religious texts and prophets was not changing the perception of the people towards light; however, they used the light as a symbolism of goodness and purity to lead people to the kindness. It shows that the meaning of light for people has changed by the effect of holy books and religious leaders. Sean Vander Meulen says, “Greek philosophers thought that light was coming from our eyes. Then we understood that light is made of particles that bounce from the things around us. Now, we are not sure about whether it is made of particles of waves. We will never be done with light. If we will be, then physics will be done, too. ” (Vander Meulen).
