Members of the LGBTQ+ community are becoming more outspoken in their demand for equal rights. Although this community has always existed, social media, unconventional families, and vocal role models and allies are working harder than ever to secure equal rights for everyone. As social media’s influence increases, so do the number of advocates, particularly for LGBTQ+ rights. YouTube has given young people a voice and a platform to make themselves heard. YouTube personalities such as Tyler Oakley and singer Todrick Hall have taken to social media to fight for LGBTQ+ rights. People, especially the younger generations, seeing the portrayal of successful irregular families on television is without a doubt aiding in accepting differences. For example, the ABC Family/Freeform show The Fosters is a show about two lesbian mothers raising five children and doing a magnificent job. LGBTQ+ actor Neil Patrick Harris and his husband David Burtka have adopted two beautiful children and they appear healthy and happy, like any child raised in a typical heterosexual household. When admired actors and actresses show their support for the LGBTQ+ community, it helps show that one does not need to gain the rights in order to support the gaining of rights. With popular actors and actresses, such as Daniel Radcliffe and Anne Hathaway, taking a stand and voicing their acceptance, it shows LGBTQ+ people who is on their side and who they can rely on to assist them in their fight for equality. The largest impact anyone has ever had on the LGBTQ+ community is Barack Obama and the Supreme Court in lifting the ban on same sex marriage.
