In the world of politics, courtrooms, banks, hospitals, and even at mechanic shops some amount of doublespeak is lingering. Lutz’s article proves how frequent the use of double speak is and manipulative and decisive the people who use it actually are. After reading this essay, it has become obvious to me that Doublespeak has been used on me throughout my entire life. This article has taught me to analyze and investigate phrases that are convoluted or meaninglessly complicated. His paper teaches the reader to ignore the useless information and strip down a phrase to what it really means. Through Lutz’s use of numerous personal and historical examples, he is able to effectively argue his opinion of the negative uses of doublespeak. Audiences who are often confused or misled by speakers various tactics of doublespeak would highly benefit from this article. In order to understand doublespeak one must first understand why speakers use it and what effects it has on the public. This novel was also written in first person form so when you team that up with descriptive language it allows the reader to understand Josephine’s thoughts, feelings and opinions on the issues, which she faces. Marchetta has done this by using the descriptive language repetitively so the audience gets a detailed idea on what she is thinking and feeling. If this technique wasn’t used us as the audience wouldn’t have gotten to know what she really was feeling and how important it was for her to overcome the challenges she was faced with for the new phases of her
Depth of a story relies greatly on the author’s unique way of conveying a tone. There are many great examples of diction in any genre of literature, whether is be of someone’s feelings, a setting, a mood, a person, or an object. Without it, a story would be dull. Diction connects our senses to the actions, the setting, and the mood of a story, thus enveloping the reader into it, which is exemplified beautifully in “The Scarlet Ibis,” “The Most Dangerous Game,” and “The Necklace.”
Imagery is used flawlessly in this short story. O’Connor uses descriptive adjectives fairly often to paint a picture in the reader’s mind and to add spice to her
In the essays "The Miss Dennis School of Writing," by Alice Steinbach, and "No Wonder They Call me a Bitch," by Ann Hodgman, both authors use description to get across the points they wish to make. The authors’ purpose for both of these essays are to catch the reader’s attention as well as to provide the readers with life lessons through descriptive writing. In “The Miss Dennis School of Writing,” Steinbach is trying to teach people about descriptive writing from her own experiences through her teacher Miss Dennis. In “No Wonder They Call me a Bitch”, the author Hodgman is trying to point out that advertisements made by the manufactures of dog food can be misleading.

A good story is always structured with details that are easy to follow while intriguing readers with reality and emotions. “Description begins in the writer’s imagination, but should finish in the reader’s.” -Stephen King. Descriptive language helps to create a picture in the reader’s mind. A story is only as good as the way it is told. The way a writer uses his or her words to say something is just as important as what they don’t say. Charles Baxter, author of plethora of books and university teacher, writes a craft book that goes deeper than the surface of writing and deeper than the words written down. In Charles Baxter’s The Art of Subtext, he discusses how authors can use the words they do write just as much to express what they don’t write.

The story “The Flowers” by Alice Walker was the best example of description. The author gives really good detail and makes it easy to picture the story in your head. An example of a point where she used good detail is in the first paragraph when she said, “... made each day a golden surprise that caused excited little tremors to run up her jaws.” the author could have just said that harvesting made her excited but she made us feel how excited she was. Another point where she used good detail was in the third paragraph when she described when she saw the water rising up and going down stream as “... tiny white bubbles disrupt the thin black scale of soil…”. Also another point that caught my attention where she used great description was when
