Growing up as a migrant had prevented me from staying and taking classes during the summer. I had simply knowledge that it wasn't possible to stay so I had accepted it. However, I had came up with an idea that why I should limit myself to not learning during the summer, but to take textbooks of any subject and read and study it for fun. It has helped me, not to limit myself as learning is something you can do anywhere and
Getting rid of summer break would hurt a lot of students; they do not have the patience to go to school during the school year—taking away what is supposed to be their vacation could possibly break them.
When I first knew we had to do summer reading I thought it was dumb and there was no point. Now that I think about it, there definitely was a point; I was not involved in many educational activities over the summer except for summer reading.” Research shows that students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same tests at the end of the school year.” If students are not getting involved in activities and learning over the summer they are going to experience learning loss, and it will be much harder at the beginning of the year if were not putting our brains to work. I think summer reading is
Have you ever wondered what the difference between traditional schooling and year-round education is? Maybe you didn’t know that there are more than one type of year-round education. A year-round school schedule can benefit educators, students, and even families. Year-round schooling is where the breaks in school are on a balanced schedule. Instead of having a three month summer break, there would be 60 days off and then the students would be back to school. If on a multi track schedule, teachers could use their off time to substitute at their school on a different track or at another school to get paid more. For students, the shorter breaks away from school increase retention rates, therefore reducing the amount of review necessary at
In reality, I did not mind spending my summers in the classroom because I knew that each homework assignment and each late night studying for exams was getting me one step closer to reaching my goal of becoming a physical therapy
I had surprisingly learned a few new things that I didn't learn in the previous school year while in summer school. Each subject had educated me in satisfying ways. The most interesting things I was taught, were facts on poetry, information about Frederick Douglass, and an American dream that has changed over time. These subjects stood out the most to me because I found them really enlightening. They gave me a glimpse of new literature, leadership, and troubling lifestyles.
Initially, due to English is a foreign language, international students usually need spend more time in studying than local students. In fact, more or less language problems will happen in international students’ studying life. For example, some students cannot correctly use English to analyze the topic, research the information and write work paper in their group-research. Moreover, different countries have different cultures, those from countries in different education system even need to change their way in speaking, writing and thinking etc. into international models. Therefore, learning time for international students is very tight because they are facing with so much pressure. This means that, if international students use too much time doing part-time work, they cannot have enough time to do their school work which is
How would you like to be in school during summer? Maybe that’s why it’s called year round school. For me personally, I hate year round school just as much as normal school. I hate them because you get less family time and the scheduling is all different.
I went to a small rural high school, less than 100 students in my entire grade. This made for life-long friendships and knowing most of my teachers before stepping foot in their classrooms because their own children were my schoolmates. It also limited my learning potential until my senior year. I had no access to A.P. classes because we had neither the student body or budget for teachers to support them. I had no choice for which foreign language I would take, as required by any college or university in Washington state to even apply, as we only had one offered and it was for the two year minimum necessary. I was driven to learn however by my
After my acceptance to Agnes Scott, I decided to take a gap year. It was a bit of a hasty decision, but it has to be made as I had to wait a bit more to obtain a scholarship. I was unfortunately unable to travel as I had hoped but instead spent the time trying to work on myself more. I meditated, watched and read informative material. Refusing to succumb to the often felt sluggishness that accompanies long periods without a schedule, I have kept up my studies with the aid of some online courses, both with and without accreditation, constantly watched the news to stay abreast of the current events and took up American sign language ( and Spanish… it'd be more impressive no?). Something I've always wanted to learn. I also watched French movies
The first semester of my sophomore year I’ve decided to take the AP European History class so it made my first semester kind of difficult, it required for me to do more work that involved reading. This AP European class has helped me grow as a student to communicate ideas, for example my group and I were assigned a scientist and we had to present to the class why our scientist was so important. I have also grown as a student in investigating the world in my English class, we read different articles based on different cases from people around the world.
I was enrolled in two classes this Winter session: Elementary Chinese and Development of the Silk Road. I experienced the coursework for both of these classes differently than I would have had I taken them in the traditional classroom setting. Take Chinese for example: I was immersing myself in the Chinese culture and interacting with native Chinese speakers, simultaneous to learning the Chinese language. It clearly impacted the speed and accuracy of which I learned the language since I was constantly seeing, hearing and speaking the little Chinese I learned. I felt most triumphant when locals understood what I said and equally accomplished once I began to recognize Chinese characters in street
I go to Penn State - Brandywine campus over the summer and take part of their summer Launch program. In the program I am able to do get tutoring in math and english literature concepts and even advance towards higher levels of math and literature. Everyday I learn new techniques to solve problems and perfecting a thesis for a paper. The summer programs really help because usually during the summer I forget everything that I've learned over the past year and this program helps refresh everything and keep me up to date with the
I have always taken challenges because there is much to learn from them. Taking summer college classes have been challenges I have put on my plate, but all for a reason. My purpose for taking these courses are to gain experience and to increase my skills for the “real college life.” In addition, they are free courses, I receive college credit, and they are General Education classes that are required to complete in order to graduate college. Although many may see a college class in the summer as weighing in more cons, simply because it's a hassle getting up early and not having a summer to enjoy, it actually is not because money and time is being saved by attending these courses. For instance, once I attend my University I will have already
You will be in class for several hours every day and have daily homework. How will you balance your desire to explore London and other European countries with the need to study?
I did learn a lot at first semester. First and the most important things that I think I learned is that time-planning which helped me organized the time well which dragged me out of the mass life, at least I know what I need to do and never forget and late for the homework. In my opinion, organized time well is important no matter on study or in lives which can always inform us what we need to do and what time is available for us to do other things that make life more orderly. Besides, I also learned how to use resource that afford by school. Before the facilitator told me those resources, there had so many things that I have no idea who could help me. After knowing this, I felt like open a door that to a continent life for me. I have to say that there have so many resources for me in school, I can do anything with the help of them and which really makes me feel easy
