Why Is Frederick Douglass Important To Me

I had surprisingly learned a few new things that I didn't learn in the previous school year while in summer school. Each subject had educated me in satisfying ways. The most interesting things I was taught, were facts on poetry, information about Frederick Douglass, and an American dream that has changed over time. These subjects stood out the most to me because I found them really enlightening. They gave me a glimpse of new literature, leadership, and troubling lifestyles.

I was taught a lot about black history growing up, and when reading about Frederick Douglass I understood perfectly that he was a slave and also a writer. This class had opened up my eyes to the numerous things that he has done and explained to me exactly why he is an important figure that represents my culture and background. Frederick Douglass isn't only an inspiration to me but to ton of other people. Douglass had also affect people in different ways, a couple of those people being Paul Dunbar and Robert Hayden. These gentlemen are both writers who wrote a poem about Frederick Douglass.The authors wrote these poems to express how they felt Douglass has change society. One believed that Douglass would be praised in the future for all his work, while the other considered there to be dark ages in the future even after what Douglass had done. This section in the Module showed me the different styles and voices of writing by using Douglass as an example and really caught my attention.
