Kayla is the complete opposite of me, she is like the white light perfect angel child, and I’m the child that somehow messes up everything in her perfect little world. This course has been an eye-opening experience for me—not only in the realm of hip-hop as a musical genre, but its development and importance as a culture and mode of expression. Before reading Can’t Stop Won’t Stop, researching both mainstream and “underground” hip-hop artists and examining their lyrics, I really only considered hip-hop at its most surface level.
