What is the first thing you think of when you hear about a lottery? I thought someone would win money. “The Lottery” is written by Shirley Jackson. It is based on a small town in 1948. I like “The Lottery” because you think you know what's going to happen but the opposite happens. We tend to think tradition is always good, but sometimes traditions are bad. Shirley Jackson uses different literary devices such as foreshadowing, irony, and tone. Shirley Jackson uses foreshadowing in her story. The Lottery is a bad thing because people get killed. When you hear the phase the lottery you think good but the people in this small town know someone is going to die, and they are right. For example other towns are getting rid of the lottery. Because
