Nutrition and Weight Management
Weight management is a long time approach to living a healthy lifestyle. This includes a good balance of healthy eating and physical activity. Weight management doesn’t include ‘diets’ that are aimed for ‘quick’ weight loss, but more so focused on the long term results that are often achieved through a good balanced diet and exercise, but results are often slow. Managing an individual’s weight is crucial to reduce obesity and the rick of major health issues that come with being overweight.
The Ottawa Charter can help prevent obesity and encourage nutrition because it promotes healthy eating and regular exercise but also teaches about the health risks that are highly associated with overweight and obesity.

Create Supportive Environment
The community needs to come together and make supportive environments for people who may be embarrassed or ashamed so that they can go to the gym or use the bicycle paths around town without feeling ashamed about their body shape.
The community can do this by encouraging people to get active together whether it is they have a mini marathon around town or have classes at the supermarket informing people on what sorts of foods they should be purchasing and what foods they should have in moderation.
These events will not be successful if they community doesn’t see a positive image attached to them. The events need to be seen as normal and enjoyable, not just for the ‘fit’ people but for whole community.
Examples: The Group Drive Fitness here in Tumut has ‘shape shifter’ classes which not only combines the positive environment of the gym and sometimes at the bull paddock but sessions of nutrition and what sort of foods people should be consuming.
Strengthen Community Action
Getting the shire involved in things they want to happen or the shire getting the community involved in the plans that the shire is making giving them an opportunity to voice their opinions and help with the organisation. being organised will make the community more enthusiastic about wanting to participate, that they will make their friends and family partake as well. These organisations are often support groups
In life, many people participate in various daily events and activities that help them enjoy being who they are. People may enjoy getting together with friends, going to the mall, going to an amusement park or simply finding relaxation in nature. However, a big part of everyone’s life is of course eating and many people find pleasure in doing so. Eating is a very enjoyable and delectable must for everyone but should be done so, like everything in life, in a smart and intelligent way. Being smart and perceptive when eating is a large part of nutrition.
Nutrition is important to understand because it is a significant contributor to the health and wellness of a human being. Nutrition can determine the weight of a person, the performance of organs and the body’s ability to prevent or accelerate certain diseases. Health and nutrition can be influenced by several factors such as family, friends, peers as well as physical and mental stress. As a young child, the immediate family is the biggest influence on nutrition because they are the first role models and establish the initial habits that the individual will develop. Through daily meal plans given to children, they can develop a standard of care in regard to nutrition and then incorporate key food groups into their daily diet. A child’s
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously
In the UK about 46% of men in England and 32% of women are overweight, and an additional 17% of men and 21% of women are classified as obese. Overweight people and obesity is rapidly increasing so it is estimated that by 2015 over 50% of the population will be obese. These campaigns have a big emphasis on education and in particular in settings such as primary and secondary schools. Children are being taught about healthy lifestyles, one of the big changes was inputting healthy foods into school canteens. Adults are also being educated by replicating the idea in schools workplaces also have fatty foods replaced with healthier foods and reducing the number of smoking areas to discourage smoking breaks at work when it all gets too stressful.
Both Healthy Alaskans 2020 and Healthy People 2020 have similar goals: increase the number of people who exercise everyday or weak. The starting point, the first action, is always educating the public or school so that people will understand that exercise is something that will prevent obesity and will greatly improve people’s health, which could also affect the length of a person’s lifespan. Along the starting point, assistance from other organizations and programs are needed in order to carry out the action. Moreover, depending on who the audience is, there will be different ways of educating them. For example, a way to teach students would be to have presenters and more exciting activities that will make students want to participate. Another example is to provide easy access to the public so that more and more people will consider exercising. Small events such as sports competitions will also entice the people. Though the goals are the same, the strategies and plans on how the goal is met
The book begins by explaining how important exercise and being active is to our health and well-being. The author then transitions into a story about Naperville Central High School. This high school was in the forefront of a revolutionary new concept
Weight management can be assisted through improvement in food and medical stuff, physical activity or behavioral change, with a combination of all three being most effective. Where possible, increased physical activity should be adopted, with 150-300 minutes of moderate activity, or 75-150 minutes of vigorous activity each week, which has been associated with improved health outcomes, irrespective of weight loss. The level of physical activity recommended will be dependent on an individual’s BMI, fitness levels, commodities and age.(Prof.hankey (2006))
Changing the average American diet is not as difficult as it sounds. Providing the public with proper information about food and what is actually in it, along with making healthy food choices readily available to the average citizen will go a long way to curbing and preventing the obesity epidemic. The benefits of eating healthy are monumental. A longer, more active,
“If and when the public chooses to use government power to offset the factors that promote obesity, we can do so. A day may come when we decide to limit advertising of unhealthy food, strengthen lifestyle teaching in schools, and create stronger financial incentives to adhere to lifestyle recommendations. The more eager we the people are to fight the obesogenic environment, the more responsive and effective our governments will become” (Medscape General Medicine, vol. 9, no. 4, 2007).

Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I

Weight management has been thought of as only weight loss by many. Weight management covers all aspects of attaining and maintaining optimum weight for a healthy lifestyle. Health professionals now realize that prevention of weight gain as well as weight loss and improving health status are important goals. These goals must be individualized for success.
Staying healthy and eating right is a lifestyle that many people should consider. A juicy hamburger from McDonalds dripping with special sauce topped with cheese is not exactly considered a healthy meal. Our society today is busy and on the go at all times. It is so much easier to stop and get fast food and then continue on. However, we should stop and think; is it really worth it to not eat right and exercise?
