One of the proudest moments of my life is graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in social work. I’m the first in my family to do so, and I am going to go further in my education by pursuing a Master’s degree in social work. The main reason why I am pursuing a Master’s degree is because it will give me more options than a Bachelor’s degree would ever give me. Additionally, it will give me the opportunity for job stability since most employment prospects is requiring a Master’s degree to get hired. My long term goal is to work in the VA hospital. Working at the VA hospital has many benefits and job stability. Getting employed at the VA hospital has been a goal of mine since I first started my social work courses. And a Master’s degree is the …show more content…
I decided to work with that population because it would give me many opportunities to work with a diverse background, and also learn about some programs that can help veterans that are homeless. I learned about different housing programs that can help veterans that are homeless and other services and resources that I can implement to help them. At my internship, I work with a diverse population. Many of the participants that I work with have some form of mental illness. It was an experience to work with them and help them sort out any housing issues that they were having, whether if its rental assistance or landlord problems. During my internship, I learned about trauma-informed care, which is very important if I am going to be working with the veteran population. With trauma informed care, I can use this practice to emphasize physical, psychological, and emotional safety for survivors; and creates opportunities for survivors to rebuild a sense of control and empowerment. For veterans who experienced mental illness, I can use this practice to create a better environment, so the veteran participants can be comfortable and empower them to help
My active lifestyle and energetic persona as a child, adolescent, and young adult led to countless trips to the emergency room. These excursions brought forth news of broken bones, torn ligaments, and strained muscles. Over time, the many hospital visits became especially exciting as I gained a stronger understanding of reading x-rays, studied the way the physicians cared for their patents, and learned more and more about the organs that helped my body move. Due to these musculoskeletal injuries and hospital trips, my ultimate goal in life is to seek a career in orthopedic physician assistance. Not only am I looking forward to examining patients, diagnosing conditions of these patients, applying braces and splints to the injured, and provide
The most important long range goal I have ever had was to graduate high school. This has been one of my goal's throughout my career as a student. It has been my main goal because I will be the only child of my mother's to graduate from high school. My mother has always pushed me to my best and has always told me to reach for the stars with this goal, because she did not want me to get a GED like she did. My education goals consist of learning something new every day. Throughout my educational career as a student there were major and minor bumps in the road, yet my goal of being able to receive a high school diploma kept me thriving to accomplish it. Now as the last few months of school wind down closer and closer to graduation my heart grows
In my community, I volunteer immensely with the 4-H and FFA youth in Pima County and Arizona. I am a cavy judge at local shows throughout the year, as well as a certified shooting sports leader to teach 4-H members safe shooting techniques with rifles. I was also given the opportunity to volunteer with Future Farmer of America student members through my sorority, Sigma Alpha. I will be volunteering with the Meat Evaluation CDE at the State CDE Day, and have applied to be a Camp Counselor at the Arizona State FFA Camp held at Camp Shadow Pines in Herber, Arizona in June. Volunteering with youth involved in agriculture has allowed me to give back to a community that gave me so much during my youth. 4-H transformed me into the young woman I am
My long-term goal with my college education is to complete my Bachelor's degree and eventually continue on to receive my Master’s degree in criminal justice. The first step to complete my long-term goal is receiving my Associate’s degree in criminal justice by May 2017. This goal is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.
My second goal specifically is to get a position in the human resources department with my current employer within the next six months. Gaining a position in the human resources department puts me one step closer to achieving my long-term goal of becoming a human resource manager. The goal is measurable because I plan to apply to any position I see posted in the human resources department that interest me and align with my professional goals. The goal is attainable because I have access to our job postings website and I plan to check this website for updates at least twice per week. This is a reasonable goal because I sometimes have downtime at work, which would allow me to use that time to search for new postings and even apply. This goal is time-bound because I gave myself a deadline of six months to achieve it. With my updated resume, experience and now my current course of study at Western Governors University, it makes me a desirable candidate for a position in HR.
Organizations, groups, churches, etc. all have a vision and mission. As a graduate student, I have come up with a vision and mission statement that are motivational in my success. My vision as a MHA student in graduate education at Belhaven University is to remain curious, creative and a thinker who will remain courageous as I develop the servant leadership knowledge offered, that will allow me the opportunity to be a valuable Healthcare leader who can work both independently and collaboratively. I will face many challenges with an open mind and seek answers and ways to improve the changing arena of Health Care. As a graduate student I would like to expand my knowledge and my discovery of the health
In one of the stories called Making Kids Work on Goals, Sue Shellenbarger has evidence of students wanting to achieve their goals at younger ages. “42% of students ages 10 to 18 say they are energetically pursing their goals 35% Strongly believe they can find ways around problems that may arise and 53% say they are hopeful for their future”. In another story called Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams, Randy Pausch talks about how childhood dreams can come true and that it feels even better to help people accomplish their childhood dreams. “And as you get older, you may find that ‘enabling the dreams of others’ is even more fun” Now is it better to have short term or long term goals for a dream job, short term works better because of how long term goals seem to affect people.
I know that the sky is the limit when it comes to nursing fields but I have a sincere interest in mental health. I thoroughly enjoyed my clinical day at the Pavilion although I did recognize that the Nurses spend a lot of time charting which depleted my interest a bit. However, I do know that you can work in other settings I can work in especially if I continue my education to a master’s or doctoral level. Becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (PMH-APRN) would allow me to prescribe certain medications (depending on the state’s law I live in) and administering psychotherapy. (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015) However, these are potential long-term goals! Let’s talk about short-term.
By the end of my senior year, my main priority, like any other senior, is to wear my cap and gown, walk across the stage, and receive my high school diploma. To accomplish this goal, I must continue excelling in school with all A’s and maintaining my diligent study skills. I also need to take as many dual enrollment courses at Clayton State University as possible in order to shorten my time in college. After graduating, the next leading goal is to get accepted into either Emory University or University of Georgia, but preferably Emory. Should Emory accept me, then I definitely need to apply to and receive scholarships like Gates Millennium and Zell Miller, for example. In addition, I desire to preserve my current rank as the salutatorian. Perhaps if I persevere more, then I could possibly graduate as the valedictorian. To do this, I can always study harder and receive tutoring about topics I do not completely comprehend. Also, somewhere along the lines, I hope that can obtain a job as a
A long term goal is a goal that you wish to accomplish in the future. Long term goals require time, planning, dedication, and rescilience. Having a long term goal is important for a successful career in the future. One of my long term goals is to become a prosperous private practice lawyer. This is important to me because it will show my siblings and other minority children that no matter the circumstance or pressure put on them by society anything is possible. They can be successful.
I want to be the the “guy” in film industry. When people see or hear my name attached to a film; they’ll know its going to be epic. I want to own my own production company, where we make money, and groundbreaking films. I expect a Hybrid of career advancement, where I will be rising-within, and learning, then making my move towards my own company once I have the capital, friends, and buzz in the industry.
Gaining the Emergency Medical Services Scholarship would silence the suspension of personal wealth being the deciding factor in my success of studying medicine. This would be significant, as I want to believe my success in medicine depends most on to the degree in which I work to cultivate excellence in academics, community involvement and empathy.
A long-term personal goal that I have always had for myself is to graduate high school with my academic honors and technical honors diplomas, to get it I had to work my butt off. I had always studied for every test, made sure to at least receive a B or higher on any assignment. The hard work has paid off now because that is the path that I am on now to receiving a diploma. I had a lot of barriers though, like probation and family losses, but I made sure just to focus on me and know that life always goes on and I should
1. What motivates you to pursue a master’s degree in social work at this time?
Having a Bachelor’s, in addition to my years of experience, makes me eligible to be promoted to an Operations Manager, or a Director at my current job. I can also be a Billing Manager at a hospital. All of which are careers I am interested in. The final plan in my academic future is to earn my Master’s Degree in Social Work. After completion of my Master’s, I can pursue the career of my dreams, a Hospice Social Worker.
