Potential Long Term Goals

My goal of becoming a mental health nurse practitioner stems as well from another belief I have of nursing; advancing for the betterment of patient care. The advanced practice nurse basis their practice on evidence to reach the therapeutic goal. Increasing skills through education and being a source for others to come to increases the quality of care throughout clinical setting. I want to be a resource for all my fellow nurses so that it is not just I who increases patient outcomes, but assist others in doing the same.

My long-term goal with my college education is to complete my Bachelor's degree and eventually continue on to receive my Master’s degree in criminal justice. The first step to complete my long-term goal is receiving my Associate’s degree in criminal justice by May 2017. This goal is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.

Nursing is a career which I believe that needs to come from the heart and I have at all times appreciated with respect. One of the proudest moments of my life is graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in social work. As a prospective Biology major and Veterinarian, I hope to gain experience working with plants and animals in the field of Biology and consider internships with veterinarians. There are numerous different types of nursing fields that all have their unique necessity and benefit to the community. Out of those fields, I feel attracted to one specific field in particular: psychiatric nursing. I had always had an interest in the complexity of the mind and the behaviors that result from it. Although it is a demanding position, I believe that the intrinsic motivation and satisfaction of giving people with difficult psychological illnesses a therapeutic environment through counseling will far outweigh any hardship.
