I knew that my hometown of Blairsville, Pennsylvania was a rich historical place before my research. I turned to visiting the historical society in my town for my information, there I was given a tour of a historical house where all of the artifacts had been donated. After looking into the history and the other elements of the town, I found out that the place where I grew up was so much more history than I could have ever imagined.

In the town of Longtown, Ohio, all races have mixed freely for nearly 200 years. This early integration town was founded by James Clemens, a freed slave from Virginia. People there have married and befriended each other no matter the color of their skin. These conditions are outstanding considering the racism outside the town at the time. We can learn from these people living in almost perfect harmony by not judging anyone by anything else other than their character. In paragraph 4 of the article “Ohio town holds rare history: Races mix freely for nearly 200 years”, the Connor Keiser states, “We were the usual Longtown family. We all looked different, and we were taught that color didn’t matter.” Keiser demonstrates how when he grew up around different colored people, no one cared. They just became friends and lived peacefully because happiness and harmony doesn’t have to be a result of segregation. Another piece of evidence that demonstrates this is in paragraph 21 when the author states, “The Tigers’ appearance often confounded opponents.
Ferguson, segregated facilities were deemed legal by the Supreme Court. Thus, there were signs in Indianola for “colored” and “white” (Taylor). Mrs. Taylor’s family dealt with segregation in a peaceful way. They did not want any conflict. Mrs. Taylor’s experiences showed that “back in those days... you knew ‘your place’” (Taylor). She knew how to react when she came across a white person. Saying “yes, sir” or “no, sir” was like a reaction, it was implemented in Mrs. Taylor’s way of living. “That was just the time we lived in” said Mrs. Taylor (Taylor). She did not regret her methods. She stated that thanks to that way of living, she did not get in any conflict, did not start any commotions or arguments. “If you did it, you didn’t have any trouble” (Taylor). Despite the peaceful way of living, Mrs. Taylor shared her experiences about cases where there were conflict between a sharecropper and the landlord. For example, a man wanted to get his wife to the doctor but the landlord wanted him to finish his job first. Sometimes, a fight broke out. But, the blacks had a bit of leverage; because for instance, if a white man had a piece of land, and it’s about to rain, he did not want the crop to be spoiled “you can almost demand some things because your service is needed”

You are probably thinking the same thing that I was, "What does Kenosha, Wisconsin have to do with the Civil War?" I asked myself that when we first moved here and found out that they HAD a Civil War museum. We’ve wanted to go visit it ever since then, but it seems Loving Husband always has to work or we’ve just been lazy and never made it over there. Inspired by the History Channel’s Civil War week, we decided to finally make the trip across town for LH’s birthday on the 2nd. I was amazed at how large the museum is and also at how well done it was. I’d say that it’s on par with the Florida Natural History Museum in Tallahassee. Other than two women and a small hand full of school kids, we were the only people there. I have to wonder how they A) were able to afford to build something like this in a small town like Kenosha and B) can afford to
In the 1840s Boston was overcrowded and needed to expand. Boston decided to add more land. To make this possible the marsh land was filled in with soil from Needham to form what is now the south end
This past year, I've had an incredible time in New Canaan. I've reconnected with my roots, reconnected with old friends, and made new friends I'll never forget. I am forever thankful for getting the chance to come back to this small Connecticut town, but it's time for a new chapter in my life.
Throughout the course of many years several important people have been forgotten earlier on. Memory is the way the brain stores and retrieves information. The importance of memory in a community is it can help you remember things. John Ever had founded this around 185 years ago, and with memory is the only way that we know that this year is Everton's 185th anniversary. That is why John Ever should be commemorated for founding Evertown instead of being forgotten for all these years.
The history of Kilburn is traceable back to the ninth century when Norse invaders began to settle in the valley. Its entry in Domesday Book is Chileburne which translates as Cylla’s or Kyle’s stream.
