The eventful journey of Miles, otherwise known as Pudge, began with loneliness. Miles was a high school student from Florida with no friends, so he decided to go to Culver Creek, a boarding school in Alabama. The first person he met a was Chip, also known as Colonel. He and Miles became closer as they went through many obstacles together. Miles then met Alaska. Alaska changed the way Miles viewed life, and taught him many good things. Their adventures allowed me to learn three important lessons. One key thing I took away from this book is that not all questions are meant to be answered. Some are better left unknown. Another thing I learned is that sometimes you have to go explore places you've never even dreamt about in order to find your “great perhaps.” Lastly, I was taught about the impacts drunk driving has on people. Not only the driver, but all of their friends and family. …show more content…
It’s a part of our daily routine. It’s natural for us to be curious and want answers, but what John Green taught me is that not all questions are meant to be answered. After Alaka died Pudge, Colonel, and Takumi were investigating how she died. Who called her that night? Where was she going? Was it an accident or suicide? These are just some of the questions they wanted answers to. The boys went to the cops, searched her phone, and even got drunk to see how badly it could have affected her decision making. What the found was that there was an infinite number of possibilities and there was no way to figure out which one was correct. Not knowing made all the boys frustrated and affected their relationships negatively. They then decided to stop searching and to move on with their lives (Green
“It's not life or death, the labyrinth. Suffering. Doing wrong and having wrong things happen to you. That's the problem. Bolivar was talking about the pain, not about the living or dying. How do you get out of the labyrinth of suffering?” Indeed, it is true, we all go through times of pain and it can be difficult to escape the clutches of sadness. John Green illustrates the struggle to gain control and acceptance over one’s problems through many of his characters, but mainly through Miles (also referred to as Pudge) in his award winning novel “Looking for Alaska”. Miles encounters many struggles throughout the story and gains a little knowledge, strength, and maturity after conquering each. Through his struggles, he achieves a higher understanding

Looking for Alaska and It’s kind of a funny story both deal with topics most people would try to avoid, or not talk about. Most of the topics or themes are not that extreme, most of them are things that go on in everyday life for teenagers, in the past and in the modern world. For Looking for Alaska alcohol was a big topic discussed in the novel, The teenagers at Culver Creek drink A lot, But the y don’t just drink for fun, and most of the time it’s innocent use, alcohol in Looking for Alaska is usually goes with trying to break some sort of rules. Alaska is as dangerous as how beautiful it is. The geography of Alaska is difficult to explore and settle because of the cold, difficult to find food, and of the long travels by foot. Someone would have to be really skilled to survive this. Alaska looks beautiful in the out side, but in the inside, its deadly.
We are here! My family and I are at Kenai Fjords National Park in Alaska!! I hope that we are able to go kayaking because I hear that that is super fun. I am so excited to be going to the park that was established on December 2, 1980. Another thing that I hoping to see at the park is orca whales, one of the many animals that I have heard that are at the park. Since we are only here for a couple of days, I hope to see as much as I can of the 607,000 acres of land. Right now we are going to go on a hike. So far I have seen a mountain goat, squirrels, and a moose. Tomorrow we are going to go on a boat tour. We were told that it was going to be cold, so we were to dress warm.
My first exposer to Alaskan culture was in elementary school with many native Athabascan tales. Since Anchorage is rich in diversity, I have been exposed to many of the cultures that live in Alaska, not just native Alaskans. To have this level of diversity is so unique and one of the best elements of our community. Academically, I have already completed Alaska Studies and am currently taking Natural Recourse Management to better understand Alaska’s history, geography and the industries that changed the economic development of our state.
How does one simply describe Alaska Young? Alaska is not an average teenager, quite frankly none of the characters are average in John Green’s book, “Looking for Alaska”. The main character, Miles “Pudge” Halter, falls deeply and madly in love with Alaska immediately after meeting her. Alaska is beautiful, spontaneous, and mysterious. Pudge loves Alaska so much that he wants to know everything about her. Alaska always speaks her mind. Alaska cares about a lot of people and ideas. Alaska experienced a terrible childhood, but she still found humor in life. Not many people can do that, and that is what makes Alaska Young so special.
