When Allied commanders during World War II needed engineers to clear the beaches of Normandy, when the 4th Infantry Division needed airfields repaired, roads maintained, and bridges built in Vietnam, and when the 24th Infantry Division needed someone to identify and mark the main routes into Iraq during the Gulf War there was one unit that stood above all others. That unit was the 299th Combat Engineer Battalion. The 299th was activated on March 1st, 1943 at Camp White, Oregon. Since then the unit has been put on reserve and active status, deactivated and reactivated, and assigned many different higher headquarters in order to meet the Army’s mission. The 299th Combat Engineer Battalion had always been quick to act, brave under fire, and completed crucial missions in order to ensure the mobility of the main force. The 299th is a very distinctive and proud unit.

The men who served in the 82nd Engineer Combat Battalion during World War II may have thought they achieved very little but their accomplishments helped in winning the European Theatre of Operation. Their engineer tasks included but were not limited to, erecting bridges, emplacing minefields, creating and continuing to make road improvements to allow for freedom of movement for allied forces.

But what exactly is the Alamo? The Alamo was the first mission in the San Antonio region of Texas. The Alamo was originally called Mission San Antonio de Valero.

Have you ever heard about the Alamo? If you have, well it's pretty common because the Alamo is something well known for what it stood for. If you didn't know the Alamo, it is in San Antonio and it stood for a very good reason.

His arrival boosted moral greatly and ensured that the Alamo would go down in history.

The 120th Engineer Battalion consists of 8 companies with an assigned strength of 725 Soldiers. He currently oversees more than 20 active construction and improvement projects at Camp Gruber, Broken Arrow and Muskogee Armed Forces Reserve Centers and throughout the State of Oklahoma. LTC Ostervold’s leadership and dedication is unwavering. He personally developed and mentored subordinates within his span of control to improve on all soldier and engineering requirements. During his short time as the Battalion Commander, LTC Ostervold has been able to increase the retention of quality engineer soldiers through realistic and meaningful Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) training. LTC Ostervold has increased the overall strength of the Battalion by over 6% (42 Soldiers) by aggressively recruiting Soldiers that have a passion to serve their country in the Oklahoma National Guard and learn a valuable skill set as an Army

New Mexico and the Manhattan Project The United States’ efforts to develop the atomic bomb was called the Manhattan project. The Manhattan project was centered in Los Alamos, New Mexico. This is where the majority of the research, development, and testing for the first atomic bomb took place. This project began in 1941 shortly after the United States received information on Germanys’ new bomb developments, and their knowledge on splitting the uranium atom. At around the same time, President Franklin Roosevelt issued his Executive Order 9066.

In the early 1800’s Spanish military troops were stationed in the abandoned chapel of the former mission.The soldiers called their new fort “El Alamo”.El Alamo is a Spanish word for cottonwood and in honor of their hometown Alamo de Parras in Mexico.Mexican occupied the Alamo during and also after Mexico’s successful war for independence.

Upon approaching the town of Los Alamos, New Mexico, the first thing a visitor sees are grand vistas, and one stepped plateaus leading to the Jemez Mountains that overlook the Rio Grande Valley. It's perhaps one reason that the notable physicist Robert Oppenheimer persuaded the Army to bring the Manhattan Project to Los Alamos, which would become the main assembly plant.

His father, who had come to the United States from Germany at the age of 17, was a prosperous textile importer. His mother, Ella Freedman, was a painter who studied in Paris and came from Baltimore. He is Julius Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer was the most important person of the twentieth century due to his creation of the School of Theoretical Physics in Berkeley, his crucial work on the development of the atomic bomb, which ended World War II, and his thoughtful opposition to the great destruction that could be wrought by the atomic bombs.

From cartwheel to supercomputer the evolution of machines has always fascinated me like nothing else. A machine- symbolizes man's rational thinking. On that account a computer is the most ingenious invention of man. It exemplifies the prowess of human mind to perceive things rationally and put them to use in performing extremely difficult tasks with effortless ease.
