The Los Angeles freelance writer Richards discussed the changing ideology and opinions that have shaped California’s immigration policies. Even though Los Angeles is a sanctuary city that hosts several hundred thousand of immigrants, the city was once a tough place for immigrants to settle and enter. For example, in 1986, the city had instituted measures that could deport immigrants more so the ones who had a higher risk of recidivism (Richards). However, as the immigrants’ population surged and their political relevance increased, a federal court eventually awarded them the right to be accorded public services that other city members were entitled to, retracting the 1994 discriminatory policy that denied immigrants such privileges (Richards). …show more content…

According to the article, many groups had organized protests that were meant to resist some of the discriminatory policies that the new president had promised to implement once sworn into office. Already the city’s authorities had received applications and granted permission to a double set of protests organized on the inauguration day. Also, on the very 20th of January, the protests were set to rise to a triple set after another group from Boyle Heights had moved on with their plans to seek authorization from the city’s security agencies for another pro-immigration march (McGahan). Trump’s administration had pledged to roll strong anti-immigration plans such as the erection of a wall on the Southern border with Mexico, deportation of undocumented immigrants and the review of the DACA act that protected undocumented young immigrants (McGahan). If the administration moves ahead with the plans to sign an executive order that will terminate DACA, then about 750,000 beneficiaries and an estimated one million of their keen will be left in a vulnerable position of losing their residency status that will threaten their careers, studies and family harmony …show more content…

While there are immigrants who break the law and such measures would be appropriate for them, profiling the entire undocumented immigrants is erroneous as there is a huge constituent amongst them who are law abiding and beneficial to the country’s labor force, academic circles and other sectors of
