When Jeannette begins school in Welch, an African American girl Dinitia Hewitt and her friends harassed and beat up Jeannette for being scrawny and filthy. She is constantly made fun of because it is apparent that she lives in poverty. The other children do not accept other that aren’t like them and Jeannette is no exception. In the first few weeks of school Laurie came home full of stories about Charles, the class rebel. Charles was rude to the teacher, hurt some of the other students, and yelled so loudly that it disrupted other classes in the school. Meet Melinda, She's is attending her first day of 9th grade at Merryweather High, And it did not go so well. All her old friends don't talk to her. Other students laugh at her. R/s Kim is sending Kadyn to school with medication and it is against school policy. R/s last school year Kim was advised not to send medication with the child. R/s last week Kim sent the EpiPen and this week she sent Benadryl with Kadyn. R/s she called Kim on yesterday regarding the medication policy and Kim response was “okay.” R/s Kim gave permission for the school to change Kadyn’s clothes at school. R/s the school has clothes for Kadyn due to the strong odor. R/s Kadyn’s bookbag has to sit outside of the classroom because of the urine smell. R/s last year, they had the same issue with Rodney.

R/s on Tuesday, the teacher notice that Demiaz’s eye was pink. R/s yesterday the teacher observed a scab on his eye and he was picking at it. R/s Demiaz told the teacher he ran into his mother’s cigarette. R/s Demiaz was sent to the nurse’s office and he told the nurse that he burned his eye while sleeping in the bed with his mother. R/s according to Demiaz, he rolled over onto his mother’s cigarette. R/s Jessica stated that they don’t smoke inside of the home and that Demiaz got ahold of a cigarette and burn his eye. R/s on yesterday, Jessica picked Demiaz up from school and was supposed to take him to the doctors. R/s Demiaz is at school today and he said he didn’t go the doctors.

Philip went to MIss Narwin to ask her for some extra work so he could be on the track team. When he got there and asked her she told him that he isn't in her class anymore. Then Philip asked again if he could get some extra work. She said get out of my room! He did. He went and talked to his coach and told him that MIss Narwin wouldn't give him any extra work. R/s every time the children visit their mother, Cassie they are sick. R/s the mother takes the children to Medical Group of the Carolinas Pediatrics Westside. R/s Leeanna needs glasses, but has not been seen. R/s Daryl threatened to remove children from Medicaid so mother can’t take them to the doctors. R/s at the beginning of the month no one was at home to get Leeanna off of the bus. R/s Leeanna was taken back to school and was for 2 weeks.

Rhaheim is in the 4th grade. He stated that he is in Mrs. Krump’s class. Rhaheim is nine years old. He stated that he ride the bus to school. He commented that sometimes his mom drops him off. He stated after- school, he goes to the Boys and Girls club. He commented that his mom and dad picks him up from there. Rhaheim lives with his mom, dad and brother. He confirmed that both of his parents work. Rhaheim’s mom works at the hospital. He described that his mom goes to work in the morning and sometimes at night. Rhaheim’ father works for DISH.

R/s 14-year-old ran away to be with her boyfriend Hakeem (19). R/s LE was notified regarding the runaway incident. R/s it was reported that Mary (mom) smokes crack and drink all day. R/s reportedly 9 people are living in a 2 bedroom house and they are going to be evicted soon. R/s the 7-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter has to walk home alone from school because Mary is on Hampton St smoking crack.

R/s Captain Brewer reported that James was home and the family stated that James didn’t come to school today because he missed the bus. R/s the family only lives about 2 blocks away from the school. R/s according to Captain Brewer, James stated that he feels safe at home and there were no visible marks or bruises on the child. R/s James told Captain Brewer that he and his dad were horse playing around and he just played dead. R/s Captain Brewer stated that he observed alcohol in the home. R/s Captain Brewer reported that the home condition is deplorable. R/s in the past, staff at the school was concerned if the home had water and power.

On 04/05/16, the victim came to school wearing pants with holes in them. Cryterious told his teacher he was home alone when the bus driver dropped him off on 04/04/16; the bus driver stated someone was at the home and had to help him inside. Ms. Stewart goes on vacations often and leaves the victim in the care of his older sister and younger brother. Dejone locks herself inside her room with her significant other leaving Mickeal to care for the victim. On 04/04/16, Mickeal had to cook for the victim and dress him for school today.
