Oberon and his allegiant servant, Puck, primarily caused all the quandaries and confusion in the play.
One cause enmated from Puck fortuitously applying juice onto Lysander's eyes. Because of this, it engendered many arguments and misunderstandings between Hermia, Helena, Demitrious, and Lysander.
Another cause involved Puck polymorphing Bottom's head into a donkey. During the worker's preparation for the play, Puck decided to dawdle and turn Puck's head into a donkey, which not only did it only scare everyone away, it made Titiania fall in love with him.
The last cause came in the form of Titania's infatuation on Bottom also resulted from Puck's juice. Just out of amusement and to fulfill what Oberon cammanded him to do, Puck
Titania, before her bewitchment, warns Oberon that their own lovers' spat is causing havoc on earth. She speaks of "winds, piping to us in vain/As in revenge" (2.1 88, 90), of the moon, "pale in her anger" (104), and how the seasons "change/Their wonted liveries" (112-13). At first, Oberon cannot see beyond his jealousy of the little changeling Titania has adopted. He sets into motion fantastic spells that upend real love, mimicking the more serious complications wrought by human politics. Naturally, Titania's premonition bears fruit when Puck transforms Nick Bottom into an ass, and again when Lysander falls in love with Helena and forgets about Hermia. These turns of events eventually worry Oberon, too. He tells Puck to make sure to "lead these testy rivals so astray/As one come not within another's way" (3.2 358-59). He prescribes the potion to set things straight, calling the evening's pranks "a dream and fruitless vision," and declaring that with his corrective action, "all things shall be peace" (3.2 377).
Though Puck adds much humor to the play while tormenting and drugging the lovers in the forest, he also acts as a catalyst in redirecting their devotions among one-another, thus demonstrating the fickle nature of love. For example, Lysander, who in one instant is blindly in love with his fair Hermia, will suddenly wake to find himself obsessed with
Bottom makes more remarks to being an ass, but because he is a fool, he never realizes that he is an ass literally. Puck's prank had a bonus when Titania wakes to Bottom's singing and falls instantly in love, due to the potion, with him. Puck's enjoyment in trickery and Bottom's stupidity combine and make bad go to worse in this scene, but then again, this whole scene was to further the action of the
Hermia and Helena's relationship has changed greatly after the intervention of Puck with the love potion. Once best friends, they have become each others enemies, and all for the love of Lysander and Demetrius.
When Puck begins to interact with the four lovers very shortly after, however, Egeus's ridiculous accusations of Lysander bewitching Hermia take an ironic echo as Oberon bewitches Titania with a love potion, suddenly bringing the ridiculousness of Egeus's statements into a new light. Puck, the perpetrator,
In act 3 scene 2, Hermia cried out to Lysander, who had betrayed her, “Why are you grown so rude? What change is this, Sweet love?” but Lysander says, “Thy love! Out, tawny Tartar, out! Out, loathèd med'cine! O hated potion, hence!” (3.2.172-175) Because Lysander falls in love with Helena because Puck mistakenly put his love potion on Lysander, Hermia, the actual lover of Lysander, got hurt by him. She could not believe that Lysander did not love her anymore. This was wrong. Helena was not the true love of Lysander. However, because of the blind love effect of the love potion, Lysander forgot his true love.
Puck is the only character that is directly involved in all of the action that takes place throughout the play. Although the action doesn’t affect Puck personally, without him, the events of the play wouldn’t take place. According to critic Ana Isabel Bordas del Prado, Puck is completely crucial to the play, “although he appears to be a kind
Titania gets deceived by Oberon because he ordered Puck to put a love potion into Titania’s eyes.He did it because he wanted her attention and wanted the child for himself. “I'll watch Titania when she is asleep, And drop the liquor of it in her eyes” (II,1,551-552). Titania was busy with the child and never payed attention to Oberon. “Give me that boy, and I will go with thee” (II,1,513). Oberon deceiving Titania wasn't the only deception, the second deception was the love potion. The love potion made Bottom to appear handsome, but in reality Bottom had a face of an ass (donkey). “I pray thee, gentle mortal, sing
Puck is an active person who is engaged in helping his fairy King Oberon get what he wants. However, he is also very clumsy and gets into a lot of mischiefs. A few examples are: When Oberon ordered Puck to put the love potion on the eyes of Demetrius and make sure the first thing he sees after he wakes up is the woman whom he hates - Helena. Puck ended up finding Lysander, sleeping on the forest floor with Hermia. and put the love potion on poor Lysander’s eyes, thinking that he was Demetrius. This is funny because lieutenants are highly respected individuals, and they should have a lot of skill and experience. Puck, however, does not have any of the above, quite the opposite. Another funny section in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is when Puck puts an ass (Donkey) head on Bottom’s shoulders, when he is presenting a play for the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta, in front of a lot of people. Puck was invisible, therefore, people could not see the process. When the people saw Bottom, they were shocked and thought that Bottom was an ass. Peter Quince noticed Bottom, and shouted “ O monstrous! O strange! We are haunted! Pray, masters, fly, masters! Help!” (Act 3 Scene 1 Line 92). Snout also says “O Bottom, thou art changed. What do I see on thee?” (Act 3 Scene 1 Line 111) Bottom sees Peter and Snout’s reaction, he is confused, as he does not know
I’ll be an auditor; an actor perhaps, if I see cause” (Shakespeare). He begins by asking himself why these common people are so near to Titania, when he sees that they are preparing a play, he decides to watch, and maybe cause some trouble too. Turns out he does cause some trouble, by turning the head of Bottom into the head of an ass, the interesting thing is that Bottom does not realize that he has changed. Puck does this to frighten the other players, and it conveniently turns out to be the object of Titania’s obsession. This could be by Puck’s design because he gets the pleasure of seeing the players frightened and accomplishes the task of awaking Titania when some beast is nearby.
The first issue between these two party is whether Puck lacked the capacity to conclude the contract created with Hermia. The rules is a person incurs only voidable contractual duties by entering into a transaction if by mental illness, defect, or the person is unable to act in a reasonable manner in relation to the transaction and the other party has reason to know of his condition. For example, in Ortelere v. Teachers’ Retirement Board of New York, Mrs. Ortelere changed the way her retirement was to be paid out, in a manner that gave more money now but left her husband nothing when she died. She was medically diagnosed with degenerative cognitive disease and the husband argues she did not have the mental capacity to know what she was doing.
Puck is a fun character and throughout the play, we see his behavior, personality, motives, and how he creates the conflict for the other characters. Puck’s overall personality is mischievous, good willed, and he loves to joke around. Puck finds enjoyment in seeing the others quarrel in the play.
This time he places it on the right person’s eyes, though both Demetrius and Lysander are in love with Helena, so Lysander and Hermias’ true love is still mixed up. When Puck finally places the love potion on Lysander’s eyes once again, he falls back in love with Hermia. Though their true love took a few turns, it finally ended up being okay. Therefore, Lysander’s quote “the course of true love never did run smooth,”(28) occurs for them.

In studying Puck's contribution to the drama, you should consider the general account of his mischief at the start of Act 2, his and Oberon's dealings with the young lovers and Bottom in the woods, and his part in the blessing of the three couples at the end of Act 5. In all of these Puck is at pains to explain to the audience what he is doing, and to take the spectator into his confidence. He can be seen as a superior counterpart to Philostrate, a master of revels in the fairy world. Puck:
