It is not a coincidence that many of our society’s drug dealers come from impoverished areas. With fewer and fewer well-paying jobs available to untrained or uneducated workers, drug dealing has become a very attractive source of income for those in poverty-stricken areas (Lai, 2013). Furthermore, even though so many attempts have been made by law-abiding citizens in neighborhoods, which have high incidence of drug dealing, to aid the enforcement of anti-drug laws, the already less ordered and community-oriented neighborhood have made huge obstacles for putting law into

The work on a larger scheme rather than on a one to one basis. This interview covered the mission and goals set for the Coalition. Laura discussed with me the influences internal as well as external that affect the Coalition. Another thing we discussed was the struggles that come along with running an organization like this. A consistent trend shifting the Town of Anthony Texas, is that of youth joining gangs at a very early age, starting drugs at an early age and having babies at a very early age. The use of alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drugs, by youth in this community is growing exponentially, due mostly to the prevalence of the drug within this community. The gangs are predominately Mexican-American and Mexican national in origin and appeal to Hispanic youth. Gang activity always involves drugs. In addition, the gang violence seen in this community stems from “turf” disputes over which gang has the power to sell drugs in a particular neighborhood. The Community Relation Coalition cannot address substance abuse without addressing gang activity in the
The U.S. Census Bureau reported in 2013 that there were approximately 54 million Hispanics in the United States. Comprising 17% of the total population, Hispanics are the largest ethnic minority in the U.S. At the current growth rate, Hispanics will make up 31% of the U.S. population with 128.8 million people by the year 2060. The Hispanic population in America continues to grow, as does the need for substance abuse counselors who can provide services specific to this population. In order to provide effective community-based treatment for Latino and Hispanic clients, a counselor should be able to meet specific challenges presented by mental health and addiction issues common to this population and be willing to promote advocacy through community

The Renaissance Treatment Center is a place where drug users and abusers who are involved with the criminal justice system comes to get help. This organization has opened my eyes wide enough, to realize the negative effects that illicit drugs have on society as a whole. I realized that just one drink, one puff, or one injection, can change a person’s life forever. And most definitely not in a positive way. This was one of the many moments when I realized that many people are exposed without even realizing it. Especially teenagers and the uneducated who are oblivious to the harm that illicit drugs can cause. All things considered, I want to help with eradicating the use of all illicit drug, which is one reason that has confirmed my interest for working towards a Master’s degree in the field of social
This will be a violation of the Title VII and discrimination. Lopez Inc., company has only employed Hispanics. Unless the company has a Bona Fide Qualification that can be proved to be in the companies best interest than it is illegal. You have two possible qualified candidates that have applied to two positions and been denied. Lopez Inc. will need to prove that the reason they were denied was that they were not qualified or to prove that there is a valid reason for only hiring Hispanics.
I met Ms. Cortes at the Dept. of Health and Human Services. When I arrived, she was in a meeting with her case manager. When she came out she told me what the case manager said. They might put her into a new activity and they can only help her on April 29th, because she is currently not in need of emergency placement. So, we called some of the shelters and programs we made a list of the night before. Garden State Episcopal was willing to look into Ms. Cortes case. This is one of those agencies that she went through in order to get into Project Home. After I got off the phone with Garden State Episcopal, Ms. Cortes was called back into the office to meet with her case management work again. They did not have any activities, but he was going to try to find her one. He told her to call him at 1 p.m.

African American youth today appear to be one of the highest grossing substance users in the United States. According to SAMHSA (2016) “The rate of illegal drug use in the last month among African Americans ages 12 and up in 2014 was 12.4%, compared to the national average of 10.2% (p.1). In today’s society, at- risk youth are usually at the top of every conversation. As the impoverished communities continue to diminish, substance use continues to progress. In these socioeconomic areas, that are challenged financially, research has shown that we begin loosing this category of youth essentially from the day they are born through avoidant attachment or insecure attachment.
Andrea has been identified as17 year old teenage girl, who entered the U.S illegally a year ago, with her mother; who she randomly cleans houses with (Capella University, n.d.). Andrea currently lives in a rundown house, with no water and limited electricity; which also houses numerous other illegal U.S residents, with frequent drug use (Capella University, n.d.). While visiting the Migrant Council, Andrea shares her brief experience with drugs, and encounters with other drug users; she attributes her family’s troubles to lack of money (Capella University, n.d.). The structural inequalities in my local community public health system for Andrea, may involve education and employment.
These comprehensive gang and delinquency prevention programs uses different techniques and to direct youth to positive alternatives. Meanwhile on the local
Since the drug problem appears to be affecting communities and including the children of immigrants. The Obama Administration’s inaugural National Drug Control Strategy, published in 2001, charted a new course in in efforts to reduce illicit drug use and its consequences in the United States-an approach that rejects the false choice between an enforcement-centric “war on drugs” and drug legalization (The White House , 2014). Part of the policy includes to prevent drug abuse through education, to reform the criminal justice system, and to open rehabilitative programs for drug abusers. Furthermore, the Federal Government has spent more than $31 million on drug control (The White House , 2014). These amount has benefited those who have been drug abused and prevented drug traffickers from crossing the border.
The Town of Anthony, Texas is a rural community that is 30 miles apart from two major cities which are El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico. Due to the location of this particular community, there are limited activities for the community available. This allows teens to get involved in gang activities and to explore risky behaviors such as substance abuse use. In order to keep the adolescents off the streets, the Community Relations Coalition for a Drug Free Anthony hosts movie nights. This activity gives youth in the community a safe environment to include substance abuse messages. The Community Relations Committee for a drug free Anthony, Texas coalition organizes activities and events for the residents and families of all ages. The purpose
