Everyone has a quality that they do not like about themselves. Some people struggle to be social, others may be too controlling of people. The first witch says, "All hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Glamis", the second witch then goes onto say, "All hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor", the third witch then says "all hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter". They also tell Banquo that his sons shall become King. The prophecies have a lot of influence over Macbeth. The witches are clever in coming to Macbeth at the right time and in what they said. He says to Banquo "… Why do I yield to that suggestion whose horrid image doth unfix to my hair, and make my seated heart knock on my ribs, Against the use of Nature." The text states clearly that Macbeth has murderous thought in his mind that are prompted by the prophecy, "Present fears, are less than horrible imaginings: My thought, whose murder is fantastical shakes so single state of man." The “external urgings” consist of the weird sisters who disclose his prophecies, which enlighten him about Duncan’s throne, and Lady Macbeth who abets Macbeth to realize his deep desires and come to the conclusion to murder Duncan. However, Macbeth is the most significant contributor as he makes his deep desires come to reality. In Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, while the weird sisters and Lady Macbeth are important contributors to Macbeth 's downfall, they are not most responsible. Macbeth is, in fact, the most prominent contributor to his downfall whose actions, decisions, and state of mind lead to his downfall.

In most Shakespearian tragedies, the hero possesses a character trait which under normal circumstances would be a virtue, but which under the special circumstances of the play proves to be a fatal flaw. Macbeth consists of several situations where the hero portrays many such qualities that drive him to commit wrong actions. Macbeth’s desires convinced him to ignore the impact of his actions. In addition, his doubtfulness controlled his consciousness and finally his blindness affected his aptitude to seek reality. An analysis of Macbeth’s actions and behaviour reveals that Macbeth should be justified as a tragic hero validating the belief that he possesses several fatal flaws which eventually resulted in his downfall.

We first start seeing power affecting Macbeth’s morals in the ending of Act I when the promise of power makes Macbeth think about killing the king. Macbeth has just finished having a nice dinner with the King and he is rethinking his plan of killing the king. We see him try to pull away from the idea of killing the king and wanting to stay an honest man. He is arguing with Lady Macbeth to not kill the king because “the king has just honored me”, “We can’t go on with this plan.” Macbeth wants to stay respectful and honest, he feels guilty to think about killing the king because the king thinks so highly of him. It is an honor to have respect from the king and Macbeth does not want to kill a good man like him. No matter what he says lady Macbeth still argues to kill the king and promises unlimited power. Macbeth finally makes the decision to kill him and begin to change from an honest and humble man to a liar and cheater. As Macbeth and lady Macbeth go forth with killing the king in Act 2 Scene 3 Macbeth freezes and Lady Macbeth tells him to dispose of the evidence but he can’t move. “I can’t go back. I’m afraid even to think about what I’ve done. I can’t stand to look at it again.” Macbeth regrets the decision and wants to go back to the honest and humble man he once was, but after killing the king he can’t turn back. He uses word choice like afraid, can’t stand to look at it again because he realizes how power has made irrational and power hungry. This new personality
