Magic Johnson was a big man who, in many ways, is larger than life. Hes Earvin “Magic” johnson, the six feet-nine former National Basketball Association (NBA) star, who played for the Los Angeles Lakers from 1970 to 1991 and won the admiration of basketball fans everywhere. After graduating from high school, Magic went to college at a nearby Michigan state,, where he led his team to a 25-5 record and the big ten conference title. He won four championships in the 80’s and would have been even better in the 90’s some people say. I think that if Magic Johnson would have stayed in the NBA Michael Jordan wouldn't have gotten as much accomplishments as he did. Even though magic johnson did come back to play a couple more years, he would have been even greater if he hadn't retire. But some NBA players were scared to play the game with someone who had HIV because they didn't know much about the virus and didn't want to get infected with that virus. Magic Johnson has changed basketball and people will forever know and speak of him. That is how Magic Johnson changed basketball in the
Michael Jordan, in his prime, was thought of as one of the greatest basketball champions of all time. A shooting guard, standing at six-six, Jordan was able to out play anyone in his position. He started his career at the University of North Carolina, where he helped his team win a national championship. He then was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984-85 season. While playing for the Bulls, Jordan received many awards such as, MVP, five championships, Olympic gold medals, slam dunk contests, and many more defensive and offensive awards. Jordan simply dominated the nineties and left the game as a NBA Finals winner in 1998.
As soon as Magic Johnson announced he had HIV, he immediately was a role model for others to get tested and have hope of living a long and fulfilling life. In 2011, Magic Johnson talked about living with AIDS/HIV for 20 years, and how this disease is not a death sentence. He encourages others to get educated and get tested. However, when Johnson first found out he had the AIDS/HIV virus, his concern was not how did he get the disease or what is going to happen or how will he afford the medical expenses, but rather, “How am I going to live a long time?” (Moughty).

It all started in Dubuque, Iowa. Then bam he started getting college scholarships when he was a sophomore in high school. He went to do big things in sports and make big records. He leads the all-time NBA in 3 pointers. He was looking in the spotlight of Steph Curry when he was little then later in life he beat it. Read about Kobe Meyers autobiography.
The moment Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Larry Bird faced each other the rivalry began. It was the 1979 NCAA National Championship when Magic’s Michigan State spartans squared off against Larry’s Indiana State sycamores. The Spartans prevailed over Larry Bird’s undefeated Indiana State squad, but that 1979 National Championship game
Magic was recognized to help the Lakers achieve the crown when he was drafted. The team reached the Finals with ease and were ready to fight for the title. At the Championship they were faced with their competitors, the Philadelphia 76ers, and were not intimidated. Earvin ended up playing three different positions that game

After Elgin Baylor was drafted and signed with the Los Angeles Lakers he quickly became their star player. In his first game as a
Coming from a large family, he was the 6th child out of 10. He began his successful basketball career by leading his high school team to the Michigan class A championship his senior year. His nickname “Magic” came from a sportswriter who was writing about his impressive game of 36 points, 18 rebounds, and 16 assists. After high school, he attended Michigan St. University. He led the Spartans to a championship his sophomore year and was an all-stater.
Lonzo Ball, a hot basketball player from UCLA, is going to take part in NBA draft this year. His father, LaVar Ball, really has a big mouth. He said that his son would be better than Stephen Curry who was the MVP last season (Avakian 2017). There are a lot of articles talking about LaVar and criticizing his arrogance, instead of his superstar son. LaVar’s words had negative influence on his son’s future. I think he should stop talking and focus on his son’s future. In my journal, there are two reasons.
He then was recruited to play basketball on the college level by the University of North Dakota. In 1967 he was drafted by the New York Knicks. He wasn’t as blessed athletically compared to others, which made him use intelligence and defense to succeed in the game. Although he was talented, he was not starting material for his team. His career path took a unique turn during 1970 when he injured his spinal cord.
One of the most well-known point guard to ever play the game of basketball in the National Basketball Association and his disease. On August 14, 1959 Magic Johnson was born (Dakers 17).
The press was in tears and the fans were shocked and could not digest what they have heard. “Mostly I remember how horribly sad everybody was accept for Magic and it just seemed as though he was putting on a good smile, putting on a good fight but everyone else believed there, we were going to lose him” David Stern (1991). Magic after started to look for treatment and started to live healthy. He was working out again and would occasionally try to play one on one with his old teammates but no one wanted to get close to him or even talk to him. People started to treat him different but his old coach, Pat Riley started to work him out again like the old days. That changed his mind set and later returned to the NBA to play in the 1992 All-star game which he won the all-star MVP. But at the same time some of the players did not feel comfortable playing with or against Magic Johnson. “The fact of the matter is, if you got the Aids virus, it would be hard for me to play as hard as I’m capable of playing, and if people can’t respect my decision, that’s tough” Karl Malone, Utah Jazz
Many people have a person that they look up to and who encourages them. It's someone who I think doesn't give up and gets back up when they fall down, who has an impact to other people around them and they work for what they have earned. A person that is a role model to me is a man named Kobe Bryant. He is a basketball player that accomplished many things in his career. He was also born on August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Biography Today 44). He is someone who overtime has shown persistence and courage throughout his career in basketball. Kobe Bryant was a role model and inspiring basketball player that had a great legacy in the NBA.
