On January 26, I had the opportunity to attend The Major Fair, an event in which the academic departments of FSU showcased their programs and gave information about various majors. Originally, I believed that I would not benefit from attending this event, but my perspective has changed. Although attending this event was mandatory for all students who enrolled in Freshman Seminar 2, The Major Fair allowed me to gain insight into the many majors and minors offered at this university. By the time I left the event, I received information that related to my intended major, which is chemistry, and the other programs that I found interesting and beneficial, which are the honors program and the 3+2 dual program.
The Major Fair occurred at Rudolph Jones
My intended major at this university is sociology. My interest in sociology was developed after speaking to several people while I was in my former school. During my time in school, I always found that observing other people is exciting. I would sit and listen to them talk about their lives, their relationships with their friends, families and teachers. I
At the majors fair I visited a total of three different major tables. Those majors were Criminal Justice, Anthropology and Simulation and Game Design. The first major that I visited was the Criminal Justice table because I am taking intro to Criminal Justice and wanted more information about the major. At the table was Ms. Kusko the department chair and also my professor for my Criminal Justice Class. At the table I learned that students interested in the Criminal Justice field have to take the intro class and also a few psychology classes such as the intro class and the Psych and Law class. Additionally, I learned that there are very interesting jobs for graduates in the Criminal Justice major from working in local law enforcement all the
Nick Tosches once said, “I don’t have a college degree” (Picturequotes, 2017). Quite frankly, neither do I considering the fact that I am fourteen years old and not a genius. Over the course of the past nine weeks, I have been researching about Florida State University, it’s financial aid, the process of going through college, and Florida State University’s history.
When people hear the word “college”, many panic inside at the thought. But, when I hear the word “college” I think about Illinois State University. In early July, I attended an Open House at ISU for my very first official college visit. As I stepped onto campus, I couldn’t but help to feel like it was my future home. Many aspects of the tour made me draw nearer to choosing this college after finishing my High School career. Illinois State University seems to fit my personality very well, has an amazing program for what I want to study, and is an outstanding campus for my academic strengths and weaknesses.
While I have had a great experience so far at Elizabethtown College, I now know more than ever that to reach my full potential I need to step outside my comfort zone and move to a larger, more diverse campus. Because of the Malcom Wesley Myers and Anna Geary Myers Scholarship I can make my dream of going to a larger school like the University of Delaware a reality. For my future career in marketing and communications, receiving an excellent college education is necessary to be a competitive candidate for jobs in the future. This is why this scholarship is so important to me, so that I can lead a successful life in my future career and not have to worry about the debt that most students are facing as they graduate from
When I was growing up, my parents always encouraged me to do well in school and to go college to create a better and brighter future for myself. Growing up with parents that did not even finish middle school, I always knew that I wanted to go to college, but once I reached my senior year of high school, I felt confused as to what I really wanted to do. I always thought that I somewhat knew what I wanted to study, but once I got to the end of high school, I began wondering what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Therefore, I decided to apply for the COMPASS program at UCF because I like the areas of science and math, so I thought that I could explore some more majors in those areas. As I took MHS 2330, I became more exposed to the various
[Taulbert, 56]. When I arrived at Wake Forest University, about two and half years ago, I found myself bombarded with choices. Options were everywhere: What courses should I take? What should I major in? What
Although I excelled in high school biology and health classes, I knew that choosing a major down that route would never be an option for me. I wanted my major to be one that I was passionate about, making learning something I craved to do. At the end of junior year, my school
This semester I learned a lot about writing in English 151. It has been a roller coaster ride with these essays for me this semester. I learned step by step how to write a good essay and how to have your readers be engaged in what you’re trying to tell them. Each essay I did has taught me something valuable I can take to the next level of English. I feel as if as the semester went by I did not take my writing that seriously and that reflected in my grades I received in each essay. It made me a better student and writer and it will reflect next semester. In this essay, I will reflect on what I learned throughout this semester that you should apply in your writing when you begin English 151.
My 4-H story starts at the Marshfield Fair. I used to visit the fair every year, and dreamed about having an animal like the “big kids”. Then, as I got older, I stopped visiting the fair. The idea slowly faded from my mind. Then, when I was in fifth grade, ne of my friends came in wearing a shirt that had the 4-H clover on it. When I asked her about it, she explained that 4-H members are the kids who bring the animals to the Marshfield Fair. I instantly knew that I wanted to join 4-H.So when I was 12, I joined the Muddy Buddy swine club. Ever since that first meeting, I realized that 4-H is my niche. I was never really into sports. I tried everything from soccer to basketball, but I never felt the same passion that I do for 4-H. I also came
Recently I was asked by my computer science teacher if I would be interested in participating in an eighth grade academic program fair. She told me that I would be helping setup a booth and demonstrating what our computer science class was about. I enjoyed the class a great deal and was more than happy to help, as long as I wasn’t being put in charge of anything. I specifically asked her if I was going to be leading the booth myself and she assured me that I was not going to be a one-man-show; I was just going to help out.
At the Major and Minor fair, it was packed with a lot of college students looking for an adequate major or minor, or for their last blog for their freshmen seminar class. I was both. I wanted to look for more information about the Accounting and Financing Major and find a liberal arts minor. However, did not come out as planned as I was drawn towards the Computer Information Systems Minor instead of liberal arts. After walking around the fair three times, I picked up a lot of fliers from other majors and minors. In the end, I found what i was looking for. Also there was the Baruch Mascot at the fair too, but I was not able to take a picture with
Then, it came time to research my priority: the academics. Seeing that Hofstra encourages students to go beyond the classroom to learn, something that I haven’t had many opportunities to do in high school, solidified my choice on deciding my interest is global studies. The interdisciplinary global studies program
During the Summer of 2012 I worked for a friend of my Dad’s who was an owner of an amusement park rides and bouncy house rides. He would rent or sell out rides to people whether it was for a fair, birthday party, or for a big amusement park. He put me in charge of keeping track of a small bouncy house. I was supposed to make sure that anyone who wanted to go in gives me a ticket that they got when they entered the fair. This was gonna be a four hour job of just sitting there and taking tickets. At first it was normal just taking tickets and watching to make sure there was not to many in at a time. After a while a nice old lady came up to me and started to talk to me. Asking questions like hold I was what grade I’m in and other info you would
Senior year in high school is the time we finally approach the first look at college applications. For many, it may be simple, for others it may not. Some of us have had our lives planned out earlier than others. others may see it as a scary lifelong decision to be made when choosing a major. One way students make their decision by planning ahead and seeing the actual potential available within a major.
