Major Research Assignment Dietetics is a major that strives to promote health and health awareness in society. This major has several opportunities. People within this major can work in hospitals, nursing homes, and even with food manufacturing companies to advocate physical wellness and good dietary habits. Also, dietetics allows people to work directly with others to help better their lives. This major is growing because people want to live longer and healthier lives, and they need people with the right information and training to assist them. Throughout my high school career, I volunteered at a local nursing home called the Emerald House. There I would help serve the residents food every Friday. I also had the chance to shadow a registered dietitian who worked at the Emerald House. It was interesting to me how she individually tailored every person’s meal and how each person was taken care of. She would also explain why certain residents could not have certain foods and the science behind why they could not. …show more content…
Meghann Wood is a senior at Indiana University. She is the president of the Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics at Indiana University. She has said that the culture of this major to some seems very laid back but it is actually quite competitive. A student needs to have a 3.0 and above grade point average to be considered for internships after his or her senior year. A student needs 1200 hours of internship work done in order to become a registered dietitian. For several students, it is difficult to meet the 3.0 grade point average because dietetics involves challenging chemistry courses such as organic chemistry and inorganic
“Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases.” –Hippocrates, 460-377 BC. If a Greek physician could make this statement over 2300 years ago, why is it such an under-exposed theory today? As stated in Chiropractic First, written by Dr. Rondberg, a chiropractor of 35 years and founder of the “Chiropractic Journal,” Hippocrates “believed that only nature could heal and it was the physician’s duty to remove any obstruction that would prevent the body from healing” (8-9). These “physicians” are called chiropractors today, and their goal is to remove subluxations, the displacement of two or more spinal disks that causes
On May 2, 2012, the National Football League lost one of its elite players to suicide: Junior Seau. Seau played for the Chargers, Dolphins, and the Patriots during his professional football career and was a 12-time Pro Bowler before retiring in 2009. Three years after his retirement however, Seau committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest with a gun. This greatly shocked the football world and its image of Junior Seau as a person, but it soon realized the cause for his action. Shortly after Seau’s death, researchers examined Seau’s brain and found that it contained a disease known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy which is formed

The following day, Coates returned to work with her notepad full of notes that she’d collected after studying Reno’s Facebook page. They’d been told that he and Savannah were madly in love, the next power couple, and had been dating for two years. They’d seen how he comforted Darlene, Savannah’s mother, at the crime scene. Coates’ experience had taught her that nothing is what it seems and Reno’s Facebook page corroborated her skills.

In literature, tone is the attitude a literary works takes toward it subject and theme (Booth 147). The tone in the stories, "The Road Not Taken” and "Hills like White Elephants" are very decisive, strong tones toward the subject in each poem. Then in the story, "Hills like White Elephants" the man and the woman are trying to decide if they should have an abortion or not.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to express myself. Dietitian has been something I have always wanted to become. I am passionate about nutrition and health. I enjoy chemistry and food related subjects and I am interested in working for the health service. During my first year in high school, I have completed two weeks of shadowing with my dietitian uncle, at my hometown Jordan. I enjoyed every part of this experience. It enabled me to explore how the dietitian and the patient contact with each other, and how they both work together to set a plan to change the patient's behavior. The average age of the majority of patients that I saw during my shadowing week was between 30 and 50. Most of these patients were diagnosed with some form of
It wasn’t until I began my undergraduate dietetics curriculum that I developed an overwhelming appreciation for nutrition in a clinical setting. Upon entering college, I became serious about my professional career. During my freshman year, I became the President of the University of Dayton’s St. Vincent de Paul Society, in which I helped improve the chapter’s membership by over 30 members and re-connected with the Dayton District Council to become 1 of 35 other conferences in the area. This experience also served as a connection between myself and the Dayton community, in which I witnessed the effects of shelter and food insecurity while serving meals to families at the St. Vincent de Paul shelter weekly and visiting
It is a great feeling to know that you are changing someone’s life for the better. That’s why becoming a dietitian is so important to me. It’s a chance for me to take care of people in a way that i’m especially compassionate about. Having an eating disorder, while sad, made me the person I am today. I’m a kind hearted, hard working, responsible person who wants to make a difference in the live’s of others. Being a dietitian would allow me to use my past experiences to help someone in need. I feel I would truly be able to produce the language of a dietitian, being that i’ve been around them for a
When I started my college journey I wasn’t sure how, but I knew I wanted to help people. After completing a nutrition course and I was amazed by the impact that nutrition has on the human body. It was then when I decided to pursue a career in Dietetics, I wanted mycareer to be applicable to my personal life. because I wanted to study something that would be applicable to my daily life. My family has struggled with Hypertension and Diabetes for a number of years, which also motivates me to learn about disease prevention through nutrition. I am passionate about nutrition and helping others achieve a healthy lifestyle and wellbeing through a healthy well balanced diet. I enjoy being exposed to new things that can expand my knowledge (move to a
In the United States, starting salaries for teachers who have completed a four-year degree are far lower compared to many other professions, which also require a four-year degree. In most states, teachers must undergo testing and other rigorous certification requirements, but they are given the same consideration or status as beginning professionals in other areas. Although attractive incentives are offered, the compensation does not compare to the long hours of work and schooling required for a teaching career.
Rebecca started school at the University of Wyoming and transferred to Iowa State to finish her degree. She sees about fifteen to twenty patients per week. When asked what her duties are as a licensed dietician, Rebecca told me that she counsels and supports her patients to make healthy eating habits and to prevent future health issues like diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. She told me that she has to work very personally with the individual because each patient is quite different. This means getting to know each patient’s current lifestyle and helping them answer any questions they might have. After getting to know the patient, she addresses the problem that the patient wishes to solve.
