Make A Wish Foundation
Make A Wish Foundation helps children all over the United States and its other regions. They find a child with a condition that is very serious and terrifying to them and grant them a wish. This changes that child’s whole life because it shows that these people and that other people around the world care for them like their family does. It gives them the hope and faith they need to keep going and never give up in life. These children are diagnosed at a very young age and the life-threatening conditions that these children have are very serious. The Make A Wish Foundation takes their minds off of what they are undergoing and all of the pain. They give back in the world because they have been blessed with a wonderful life. They help out people who need their help and the joy and happiness from the children is all worth a little time and effort (independentagent.com).
Make A Wish started making differences in children’s lives when they first heard one boy’s wish. His name was Christopher James Greicius. His hope was to become a police officer. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 1980. He was being cared for when an assembly of people from Arizona Department of Public Safety heard his wish. They wanted to grant him his wish to take his mind off of the cancer. These people granted this little boy his wish right before he had passed away. This triggered the start of something wonderful. From Christopher’s wish to now, more than 250,000 wishes have been
1980 was a year like no other. It was the year Make A Wish Foundation was founded. Bringing the opportunity for many kids around the world the opportunity to have one of there dreams come true. Make a wish works by arranging a experiences described as "wishes" to children with life-threatening medical conditions. Children must be between 3 and 17 to participate. The Make A Wish Foundation does a really good job with helping a kid's life.
Growing up with a brother that has a mental disability, I’ve become very familiar with organizations that support children with disabilities. Make-A-Wish is a well-known nonprofit organization that grants terminally ill children their dream wish. If I could choose any person to room with it would be Tommy Austin. Tommy Austin is the co-founder of Make-A-Wish and a retired U.S. Customs agent. In the spring of 1980, Austin met a child named Chris Greicius who was dying of leukemia. Chris dreamed of becoming a police officer when he grew up. Austin was determined to not only grant this wish for Chris, but to also give him something to look forward to in life besides doctor visits. With the help of other officers, Austin was able to make Chris an honorary officer just days before he breathed his last breath. This story inspired many people to grant wishes for more children like Chris, thus creating the Make-A-Wish foundation.
First of all, sponsoring a wish means to grant a gift to the foundation and you give a wish to a specific child. After the wish is granted you receive a picture of the child and their story that demonstrates how you helped make their dream come true. You also receive acknowledgment in the national Foundation annual report. But, just knowing I helped give a child hope is what means the most to me. They go through so much and deserve so much.

I chose to do my I-search paper on Ronald McDonald House Charities because I have a personal interest in this charity. My interest comes from the birth of my first grandchild. My son and daughter-in-law learned that their child would be born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. The doctor’s explained that one in twenty-seven hundred babies are born with this. CDH is where there is a hole in the diaphragm and as the baby develops its organs, such as stomach spleen, intestines, and liver move up into the chest cavity putting pressure on the lungs. This causes the lungs to be under developed. They were told that the baby would be hospitalized for about three months. They were told to contact the Ronald
Make-A-Wish is one of the most well-known charities in the world for giving dying children one last wish and making it come true for them. I remember in middle school one of my friend’s brothers had cancer and so his parents reached out to Make-A-Wish to try and give their son a happy memory that he could cherish for the rest of his life. He wished he could ride in a monster truck so the people at Make-A-Wish had it arranged and they reached out and asked them to come to the Delta Center which was home to the Utah Jazz but could also house monster trucking. He went and got to ride in the most famous monster
This means, for every dollar donated to this worthwhile cause, $ .76 of that dollar is directed to filling the dreams of a terminally ill child. As with any worthwhile charity, money is not the only driving force. Volunteers, sometime famous stars, contribute their time and talent to filling the wish of terminally ill children. For example, on January 25, 2011, Make-A-Wish teamed up with the NFL to provide 13 children, from Belgium and 10 U.S. states their lifelong dream of seeing the Super Bowl. Each recipient, and their families, were provided a jam packed weekend that included time at the Dallas World Aquarium, Cowboys Stadium and finally seeing Super Bowl 45 live and in person. Yet dreams like this take more than just money, they take the time and commitment of many people focusing on the same cause. As a matter of fact one volunteer, Cindy Sampson knows all about what Make-A-Wish families face, because she has been there before. In 2006 Make-A-Wish granted a wish for her daughter Lois who suffered from a rare chromosome disorder. Cindy said that having her daughters wish granted was a powerful experience and since then she has happily volunteered her time at the Central and Northern Florida chapter helping to bring other wishes to families in need. This generous foundation makes it possible for parents to relax, if only for a moment, and see their child experience pure joy and happiness. The “ripple effect” of wish granting is
Chris Greicius was like any other seven year old with a dream; his dream was to be a police officer. However Chris was diagnosed with Leukemia, and was going to die. His dream to “catch the bad guys” (Make-A-Wish® America) to make the world safer motivated him through his journey. When Chris’s wish came true and has a police officer for the day, they knew they could make a difference. Then on May 3rd Chris lost his fight against Leukemia, but he was not forgotten. Instead he started up one of the best organizations to support today, Make A Wish. That summer of Chris’s passing, a group of working-class DPS officers, friends and family gathered, which marks the beginning of Make-A-Wish” (Real Make a Wish website). “By the following spring the

“A Seattle football star Russell Wilson has started a foundation to raise money to give those people with cancer, hopefully, a better life. ‘It is a great event that everyone has a lot of fun at. It’s also a good way for me to stay connected to the community and partner with Russell Wilson on such a special event and help the incredible team at Seattle Children’s Hospital cure childhood cancers.’” (Boyle) This event helps give the patients something to take their minds off of the hospitals and potential life threatening disease. “Previously a patient at Seattle Children’s, Milton was now following in Wilson’s footsteps, visiting patients and sharing his own story of beating cancer. ‘He’s trying to change kids’ lives,’ Wilson said. ‘That’s the real deal when you see that in person, when you see a guy who only had 12 hours left to live, and now he feels so strong and feels so great.’” (Boyle) Donating money isn’t just to give yourself a better name or to make you feel better, it can also inspire others to do the same and share their stories. Milton wright was not supposed to live and was told he had 12 hours to live. Later Wilson donated just over 1,000,000 to the hospital allowing them to help save him and get Milton back on his feet. This helps show that anything can happen to anyone if you invest into your community. Saving one person's life
