In President Bush’s Address to the Nation Speech the day after September 11 (9/11) in 2001, President Bush wants to inform the country of this tragic event and what was going to happen for the country. President Bush uses rhetorical devices to captures the audience’s attention and to reach this purpose. President Bush mainly use pathos, logos, anaphoras, and personifications to achieve his purpose.

In USA Today essay, Yes, “A College Education Is Worth The Costs”, writer Rodney K. Smith begins his essay by painting a very vivid picture of a student in debt, and angry about his lack of job. Coming from a family that values education, the writer stands for pursuing knowledge in order to succeed in life. With this believes, the writer’s purpose for this essay is to reassure and reinforce the necessity of education in life. Smith hopes he can help push people to go to school, and have a good career which provides for themselves or even their families. Also, he wants to give them a better understanding of the importance of an education. Smith uses both logos and pathos in his essay to help enforce his argument.

In the cartoon by Dan Ziger it shows that the students from Asia are required to go to school year round while american students do not value education as much as the asian culture does. Exaggeration in the cartoon was used by showing that “all” american students are not prepared for school and do not value school like Asian countries do. Also the american students shirt had words misspelled which also kind of says how american students are in school, There was also an analogy in the cartoon which was comparing an american student to the students in asia and comparing how the american student gets a summer break and the student in asia are required to go to school

Throughout the year I have not only come to have a further understanding of literature and writing, but I have also gained the skill of analyzing works of literature and my own Essays while considering devices. Later in the year we focused on a short story by Mark Twain called The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County; after reading it, we were challenged to analyze the text through our understanding of literary and rhetorical devices.

Political ads give people an image. Most presidential candidates or politicians make these persuasive ads to implant ideas in our brain. They want to target certain parts and certain groups so they can get their vote. Although social media is enormous in today’s society, this is the best way for young voters to make their voices heard. Scott Keeter a research analyst and exit poll analyst for NBS News stated that “Young voters have given the Democratic Party a majority of their votes, and for all three cycles they have been the party’s most supportive age group” (Keeter, 1). According to U.S. Census Bureau over the course of time the rate of younger voters “Dropped from 50.9% percent in 1964 to 38.0 percent in 2012” (U.S. Census Bureau, 2).However, the media continue to evolve with modern society. Earlier this year, a video went viral, this video is called “Don’t Stay in School”. This video showed the reality of our education and how many young adults wrestle with their new found responsibility. The video featured a young man rapping lyrics such as: “I wasn't taught how to get a job but I can remember dissecting a frog…” and so on. Through the lyrics don’t apply to all schools, the singer actually makes a valid point on how most abstract education processes don’t have a toll on the average adult.

Paragraph In this cartoon the author emphasizes the beginning of school for american compared to other western countries.the symbolism found in this cartoon is that american students do not take school as serious and that he looks very unprepared walking into the school shown holding a skateboard. As the american student is clearly unhappy due to school starting he makes a comment saying “WHAT ALREADY?!” like summer came to an end quicker then he expected. The student that are sitting down are seen with country names on their shirts such as china,india,vietnam,korea,taiwan and japan it gives the audience a clear understanding of the differences between the two areas of the world and how they respect or disrespect school.
