We always regard “GAMES” as “pastimes”, but in reality the functions of games are more than that.

When I was a kid all the girls and boys like playing kickball, there are rules as well as instructions on how to play. First, you need to get a bouncy ball that is large enough to be kicked. This game is equivalent to baseball, you need to have bases as well is a place for a pitcher. Once you have the ball in the field marked appropriately you can then pick two teams to play. The first team will be up to kick and the second team will go out to the field and tried to catch the ball or stop the runners from making a home run. Now you have a player on home base and the pitcher. Culture is one of the most relevant elements that can define not only a society but also a country’s cumulative beliefs and system. Often noted as the origins of a country, culture is definitive in the sense that it harbors all the elements that can provide justification on the traditions and norms set by the society for its members. More often than not, the society members follow norms in order to create a harmonious community, and the beliefs and the traditions serve as the poles or grounding rules for each member to follow. Culture is very dynamic in the way that it can change over a variety of foreign influences but what is permanent about it is that original elements about it often lingers with the influences, therefore making it multi-faceted and broad. More importantly, culture serves as an individual and unique trait each society has, and therefore sets it apart from other countries and other societies.

To play the game you would have nine players a side ,trying to throw a soccer ball in the basket.If a basket was made ,the game paused for a man to climb a ladder and retrieve the ball.If you wanted to set up the game you would need to hang two peach baskets at different ends of the gym.

Each team has four players in each of the three zones. The ball in play is moved only by hand movements. Unlike basketball, there is no dribbling, no backboards, physical contact is not allowed, slam dunks are prohibited (unlikely though since the basket is much higher), and it is a violation of rules to shoot the ball if you are guarded. Height and size of the player is not important since scoring is when the players are constantly moving, running, and perfectly passing the ball to each other. A game lasts about 90 minutes with the object of scoring de korf.

These 10 positions include 3 attacks, 3 mid-fields, 3 defenders, and a goalie. Throughout the game there are tactical rolling substitutions such as you might see in ice hockey. This gets fresh players on the field so that the game can be played at an extremely fast pace. The purpose of the game is to score as many points or goals as possible in the time allotted. The goals are 6 feet by 6 feet, and they are placed about 10 yards into the playing surface so that players can run behind them, again, much like ice hockey.

The rules regarding how to start the game are as follows; there is a coin toss and the team that wins it gets to decide which goal it will attack in the first half and the other team takes the kick off. The side that wins the toss takes the kick-off at the start of the second half. In the second half, the teams switch ends so they are attacking the opposite goal. When a team has scored a goal, the kick-off is taken by the opposite team. The question remains how to get past the natural biases one may have when interpreting cultures different from one’s own. While it is crucial to approach any study of another culture with an objective and critical view, one is able to further avoid bias by practicing how to interpret the meaning that is carried within the behaviours and symbols rooted in that society . (CA, 25) If we could understand the meaning behind our own symbols, we can then “take the abilities that have enabled us to dwell in our own culture and use them to understand the cultures of others” (CA, 26) Perhaps this idea could be understood by comparing it to Clifford Geertz’s analysis of the Balinese cockfight. When examining the Balinese cockfight, Geertz describes what appears to be a rather meaningless, barbaric activity, until he discovers how much the activity actually means to the Balinese, as it acts as a symbol of status, achievement, and masculinity. (CA, 27) These symbols only become familiar to us when we compare it to a phenomenon in our own culture that share similar meanings, such as a hockey game. By objectifying the practices of both our culture and another’s, the other culture’s behaviours become more familiar to us, thus limiting our cultural bias. (CA, 37) When examining the cock fight in the same context of a hockey game, the cock fight suddenly does not appear as bizarre or exotic. This is also true when comparing the Nacerima and North American culture. Whether or not we are brushing our teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste, or “inserting a small bundle of hog hairs along with certain magical powers”, we are less instinctive to criticize the activity when we understand that both cultures simply view dental hygiene as something of value and importance. Male or female, sports were often introduced to many at a young age. Some vigorously exercised from their childhood just to be physically prepared to endure the sport’s requirements. Winning at these games brought great honor to some families and some were disciplined to dedicate their whole lives learning the game. Many civilizations involved sports within their community as a form of entertainment and competition. Even

Community cards are cards that the whole "community" can use and there is five of them. Together will your two hole cards whoever makes the best five card hand wins. In regards to the community cards, they are dealt face up in the middle of the table. The first three cards dealt are known as the flop, then the turn and finally the river. The river is your last chance to catch the card you have been waiting for to make your hand a winner. Before and after the flop as well as before and after the river there are rounds of betting. The first two people to the left of the dealer must place a forced bet called the blind. Blinds are to assure there is always money in the pot. In order to see the flop everyone must call the amount of the blind or fold depending on their hole cards. There are four ways to bet, Check, Raise, Fold and Call. Checking means you are betting nothing and passing bet to the next player. Raising is obvious, it means you are putting more money into the pot. Folding is when you do not want to call or your cards are so bad you don't even want to check. And finally, calling is when you match the raise made by another player to see the next card. You have all four options to choose from except when a player has bet before you and then you cannot check.

It is not easy to define culture because culture is too broad a concept, can be both abstract and specific. However, what is agreed is culture covers all faces of our life as well as direct the way we behave, interact and communicate. (Liu et al., 2011). One popular definition is that “Culture is the total way of life of a group of people, comprising of the deposit of knowledge, experience, belief, values, traditions, religion, and notion of time, roles, spatial relations, worldviews, material objects and geographic territory”. (Liu et al., 2011, p.57). In this essay, I will analyse components and characteristics of culture, and based on that grounds, I will reflect on my own culture-being a Vietnamese. Dodd (1998) considered that culture is made up by three layers which consist of the core layer, the intermediate layer and the outer layer. I will examine what values and beliefs are considered important in my culture. Those are components of the inner core. Then, I will take some examples of the intermediate layer (expression of cultural activities by manifestation) such as communication patterns, customs and festivals.

From what we have found out, they had lots of fun. They had toys, games, and played pretend. They listened to musicians. And, they enjoyed sports. Let's see what we can discover. The history of sport probably extends as far back as the existence of people as purposive sportive and active beings. Sport has been a useful way for people to increase their mastery of nature and the environment. Of course, as we go further back in history the dwindling evidence makes the theories of the origins and purposes of sport difficult to support. Nonetheless, its importance in human history is undeniable.
