“Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind” (Orwell, George). Politics has been practiced since the beginning of humanity, it has been crucial to decide who rules, who makes the rules, and what rights do people possess. Over time people have been divided either due to their beliefs or their desires, with each group striving to have more power and control in a governed society. People have sought many ways to get what they want, they have protested, debated, schemed and worst of all, murdered. Man has proven that he is willing to do the worst crime against humanity in order to achieve his goals, and not just that, but to justify to his conscience and …show more content…
King, was the great Malcolm X who advocated more violent means rather than peaceful ones to get fast results. He started his political career after becoming an influential member of the Nation of Islam, being the talented orator he was, he managed to attract many young people to the movement, and easily attracted the media, until he became second in command after Elijah Muhammad. X then started to see through the many faults of the organization and its leaders and decided to quit and form his own movement which was called the Muslim Mosque Inc. and after having preformed hajj (pilgrimage) in Mecca, Malcolm returned a changed man after witnessing all people of different color praying together in unity. His beliefs were changed from “fight fire with fire” to a more peaceful and negotiable solutions towards the end of segregation alike those of Martin L. King. However, before X managed to set in motion any of his peaceful plans towards equality, he was shot to death by four members of the Nation of Islam on February 24th, 1965, three years before King’s …show more content…
Even though, Lincoln knew that the issue of slavery would split the country in two, he still advocated a nation free of slaves. During the Civil War, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation which abolished slavery in the South, and eventually outlawed slavery in the whole country. When the war ended with a Union victory, it was evident that the U.S. was heading towards a major change, but Lincoln’s plans to unite the states and provide services for the freedmen were soon gone with Lincoln’s assassination right after winning his reelection by the hands of a confederate actor during a play he attended on April 14th,
Douglas after losing to him in run for Senator in 1865 (“Abraham Lincoln Biography. P 4”). While president, he longed for building the Republican Party into a strong national organization. One of the ways he did so was by creating the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863 stating all slaves should be free forever under those within confederacy. Lincoln won re-election in 1864. There was also a since of shift and change in the war that president Abraham Lincoln out of generosity and kindness he convinced the Southerners to put down their weapons and firearms to come together in endless people (“Abraham Lincoln Biography. P 6”).On February 14, 1865 he was assassinated by an actor named John Wilkes Brooks, who falsely believed Lincoln was working with the Southerners. To commemorate the occasion, we invite everyone to consider some surprising facts about Lincoln's views on slavery, and the complex process that led him to issue the document he later called "the central act of my administration, and the greatest event of the 19th century. When Malcolm X refers to freedom in the final sentence, he is referring to being at liberty. He is saying that he is no longer constrained by his lack of education and his inability to read. Malcolm X carefully studied the dictionary to solve the problem of his own illiteracy. Having risen from a world of thieving, pimping, and drug pushing to become one of the most articulate African Americans. What an enormous frustration he must have felt writing numerous letters that fell on deaf ears. Knowing that he had something to say but not being able to convey it in letters. According to a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute of Literacy, thirty-two million adults in the U.S. cannot read. That is fourteen percent of the Population. These numbers are astonishing! Furthermore, nineteen percent of high school graduates cannot read. There are many benefits that come with being able to read and write. Some of these include economic security, access to health care, and the ability to actively participate in public life. Malcolm X went behind bars partially because of negative educational opportunities. He ends up finding freedom when he learns of the connections between culture and education that society has denied him. He did this by copying and studying the pages of the dictionary, page by page. He would also stay up at night reading, and was careful to make sure that the guards at the prison did
1861 to 1865 he led the United States during the Civil War. He ended slavery and helped keep the union from falling apart during the war. In 1860 he received 40% of the presidential vote, but by 1865 he became popular (Holzer, Harold.). Even though his feeling towards slavery did not change Lincoln's decision to fight. He believed it was his job as president to maintain the Union.(Abraham Lincoln). Abraham Lincoln’s strategy was to advance at the Confederates at the same time. His goal for the Union armies was to destroy opposing forces. Changing generals many times he found a general that would fight aggressively, Ulysses S. Grant. (Holzer, Harold.) McDowell, Fremont, McClellan, Pope, Buell, Burnside, and Rosecrans looked harmful to Abraham Lincoln when they failed to bring success to the Union (Abraham Lincoln). He often visited his fighting grounds to see if his strategy was being used. He was dissatisfied until he found Ulysses S. Grant. During the war, Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation, for the freedom of all slaves. In 1863 the Gettysburg Address was delivered to the United States, letting the federal army fight to keep the Union (ebscohost). The Emancipation Proclamation seized property of those fighting against the Union (Abraham Lincoln). Their victory was achieved April 9, 1869, but less than a week later Abraham Lincoln was assassinated (ebscohost). Abraham Lincoln was a great president, and ended the
When he was released in 1956 the first plan he had was to meet Elijah Muhammad. Elijah took to X and he soon became the assistant Minister of the Detroit mosque, then of Philadelphia a few months later. With Malcolm X’s strong personality being a major asset to the Islam Nation, the community grew to 40,000 members by 1960. The Islamic faith promoted strict moral purity and the superiority of the black race
Abraham Lincoln is the first Republican president that announced that he wanted to keep slavery out of the territories but he respected slavery where it had already existed. Several southern states seceded and formed the Confederate States of America. The northerners refused to acknowledge the secession because they believed it was illegal and illegitimate. Abraham Lincoln wanted to save the Union in the fastest possible way. He believed as soon as national authority was reestablished, the nation would become the Union it was once before. The main goal was to preserve the unity of the America and whether slavery is saved or destroyed depended if it helps save the Union. Even before the civil war ended, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862. Emancipation was not initially a war aim but by the summer of 1862, in order to win support in Europe, the government made abolition an objective. By January of 1863, the Proclamation stated that all slaves in areas of rebellion against the United States, shall then be freed of bondage. Although this was only a start to the political and social transformation in America, it was the start of revolutionizing the social and political status of blacks. Eventually, black males were granted proper social and political rights such as the right to vote and the right to own land (Doc 1, Garraty 398-399).
He wanted to be the one to solve the issue of slavery. He issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, which announced the freedom of slaves in the Confederacy. The southerners were totally against the idea of ending slavery. President Lincoln felt that not abolishing slavery could put the unity of the country in jeopardy. The southern states had even thought about forming a new country. Abraham Lincoln wanted to keep all of the states united.
The next years of Malcolm's life began a downward spiral into drugs, drinking, and gambling. He ultimately landed as a hustler in Harlem, New York. With shrewd wit and intelligence, Malcolm adjusted quickly to the street life and became known as Detroit Red because of his straightened head of red hair and his light complexion. Once police are aware of his lifestyle and survival is no longer possible, he moves back to Boston, where he had previously stayed for a short time, with his sister, Ella. He had referred to her as one of the proudest black women he had ever known. His criminal activity eventually caught up with him again, and Malcolm ended up in prison in 1946. He was convicted and sentenced to 10 years of incarceration for theft
At the beginning of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln was primarily focused on the preservation of the Union. It wasn’t until after the Battle of Antietam that Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing all slaves in rebelling states and territories. He believed that emancipating slaves made the war a moral issue and that abolition was necessary to preserve the Union. I believe that as the war went on, Lincoln not only wanted to reunify the country, but abolish slavery as well.
It is found that although Lincoln opposed the spread of slavery into new territories, he denied any intention of interfering with the institution in those states where it already existed. After his election to the Presidency in 1860 precipitated Southern secession and civil war, Lincoln declared that he was leading a struggle only to preserve the Union and not to destroy slavery. It seems that his initial thought was not to end slavery and eliminate racial inequality. Two years later, Lincoln changed his position and eventually proclaimed the emancipation of those slaves held within rebel territory. He justified that action solely as a matter of military necessity. After the Civil war began, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to win
Malcolm X’s views about the potential for real change in America after visiting Mecca changed a lot. Initially, he was radical about black separatism but after visiting Mecca, this call was gone for good. In his journey to Mecca through Cairo, Jeddah, and Saudi city, Malcolm claims that he witnessed what he had never seen in the United States. According to him, he witnessed men of all color, nationalities were treating each other with love, and equality, in contrast to what was happening in America. The Muslims had an admirable unity that changed Malcolm’s view of the world, and what should be done to change America. He says, “Throngs of people, obviously Muslims from everywhere, bound for the pilgrimage, were hugging and embracing.” This was like dream to Malcolm because, this could have never happened in the United States whereby there was racial segregation and inequality in everything. The Muslims who had gathered for the pilgrimage were of all complexions, and there was no color problem in Islam, like it was for the people in the United States. Malcolm states that, Islam reflects the

On May 19, 1925 Malcolm Little was born to Louise and Earl Little. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska. Malcolm was the seventh of eleven children. Malcolm's father, Earl, was a Baptist minister from Reynolds, Georgia. His mother was raised in Grenada in the British West Indies. His father was also became an organizer for Marcus Garvey's Universal Negro Improvement Association. Marcus Garvey and his followers fought for racial separation and more power for blacks. Growing up, Malcolm's family moved a lot due to violence and prejudices aimed at his family. They finally decided to settle in Lansing, Michigan in the late 1920's. In 1929, the Little family's house was firebombed while the whole family was inside sleeping.
Lincoln was handed the torch at a very unstable and difficult time in American history. He became president when the tolerance between the North and the South had been disregarded (“End of Slavery”). Even though faced with this challenge from the beginning of his presidency, Lincoln pursued his goal of ending slavery and keeping America structured and united. He accomplished this by creating the Emancipation Proclamation, a document that would eventually abolish slavery in confederate states, completely. Abraham Lincoln writes in the Emancipation Proclamation, “I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated States, and parts of States, are, and henceforward shall be free; and that the Executive government of the United States, including the military and naval authorities thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of said persons,” which explains the terms of the proclamation and reassures citizens that the government will protect their liberty and free will. The Union also used the Emancipation Proclamation as a vital weapon to win this freedom for Southern African Americans. It gave the North an advantage by allowing the freed slaves to fight for the Union, which was an intelligent military strategy that lead the North to victory (“End of Slavery”). America benefitted from these decisions by not
President Abraham Lincoln was faced with an incredible test in his terms as President of the United States trying to rejoin the crushed parts of the Confederacy and Union. This was his sole reason in freeing the slaves. In any case, Lincoln was against freeing the slaves but realize it would weaken the Confederacy. On January 1, 1863 Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, making the slaves free, and protecting the Union. Lincoln liberated the slaves to weaken the Southern protection, fortify the Federal government, and urge free blacks to battle with the Union, subsequently saving the Union.
@Question #3. Well the first and most similar concept as Malcolm X is when you are learning how to read and write in Kindergarten and First grade. Because of how they would have us write on these papers that would outline a sentence with two hold lines on top and a dotted line in the middle. My teacher taught us that lowercase words go to the middle line and uppercase would extend to the top line. Then, when we begin learning how to write letters they would have the letter whether it was lower or uppercase they have it in dotted lines, for us to follow with our yellow wooden pencils usually with a pink eraser or one of those erasers you could stick on the top of your pencil. This experience is similar but very different from the story as his was in a prison setting learning from a dictionary, as mine was at the elementary school in Fort Defiance and was being taught by teachers.
