Mohandas Gandhi was the first recorded individual to adopt a non-violent method based form for change. His primary objective was for people of all ethnicities and social class to live freely amongst each other, even those inflicted upon by India’s ancient caste system.

Have you ever wanted to make a change in the world we live in? Malala Yousafzai, Mother Jones, and Nelson Mandela all saw problems with the world they lived in, and they all enacted change to do something about it. Malala wanted to fight for women’s education rights, Mother Jones fought for better child labor laws, and Nelson Mandela fought for life without racial prejudice and oppression in South Africa. Although these three individuals faced opposition, they persisted to bring attention and enact change to the issue of human rights.

“In a gentle way, you can shake the world” stated Mahatma Gandhi-- a fierce activist who fought for basic human rights of the people of India. Gandhi, Daisy Bates, and Nelson Mandela were all leaders in the fight for equality. Mandela fought for the rights of the African people while Bates fought in the Civil Rights movement in America. These three individuals used persistence, courage, and peace to defend the basic human rights of all people.

As many countries developed over time, changes have occurred that benefited the citizens of each nation. However, there is one important element that is needed to establish laws, peace, and harmony in each country. This element is known as leadership. Leaders around the world have contributed to the success and evolution of all of our nations, proving to be a huge responsibility. Residents are dependent amongst leaders, who are in charge of protecting their citizens at no cost. Without the presence of them, chaos and corruption would establish, which could ruin relationships and trade with other nations. In history, great leaders have been praised and admired. The characteristics of three great leaders, who are Suleiman, Nelson Mandela, and Queen Elizabeth I, have exhibited the qualities of being a great leader. These traits include causing admiration and inspiration, demonstrating intelligent knowledge, and guiding residents and themselves to solve conflicts that may cause death.

The powerful activist for human rights, Nelson Mandela, once stated, “A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.” The young boy from a South African clan has had one dream throughout his entire life: change. If Mandela was still alive today, he would see how his wise words continue to inspire the country of South Africa. Mandela took the burden of change upon him from a young age, and was determined to be the man that causes the change his nation so desperately needs. Nelson Mandela has greatly benefitted modern society by bringing peace to a racially divided country, changing the viewpoints of his people by becoming the first black president of his nation, and by being an activist for human rights around the world.

Lastly, Mahatma Gandhi sought to end racial discrimination in South Africa. Although they faced difficult challenges and harsh criticism, these individuals persevered to fight for human rights.

Mahatma Gandhi was one of the world’s most influential fighters for equal rights. Gandhi saw and experienced discrimination, for example, “At the time Gandhi was there, South Africa was not a friendly place for non-whites. . . . Gandhi believed that this was wrong.” Gandhi’s interest in human rights was born when he moved to South America and saw the way non-whites were treated. “Satyagraha: Gandhi’s Legacy” states, “Practices of Satyagraha included boycotts, protest marches, and fasts.” Gandhi stood up proud for what he believed in, and because of this he was able to fight for his beliefs. Mahatma Gandhi was an activist inspired by Raychandbhai, Tolstoy, and Ruskin. In the first place, he felt that is was his duty to help people that could not help themselves. To achieve this, Gandhi formed the Natal Indian Congress in 1894 (Biography.com Editors). This helped him to acquire attention from the public and gave him a platform to inform the world on what issue he was fighting for. How can you change the world? Gandhi, Mother Jones, and Mohamed Zaree, have in many ways shapes and forms. Gandhi has changed the world by helping not only South Africa, but also India gain independence from Britain. Mother Jones inspired many people to fight against Child Labor Laws, and it was eventually banned, and Mohamed Zaree is a leading figure for civil rights in Egypt. These three individuals have helped enact change by leading and supporting peaceful forms of protest that eliminate human injustice and support human rights.

Important leaders/activists have left an impactful effect on not just our lives, but the worlds. But certain leaders, out of millions, have touched us effectively. Leaving us with a strive and determination to change the world we live in today. For Instance, Nelson Mandela a man full of courage, fought endlessly until he saw freedom rights for all. Additionally, Gandhi was disgusted by the unequal treatment to certain races, so he decided to stand up for an equal life, for all. Last but certainly not least, Morgan Brian who was shocked and impacted by the unequal pay between women and men soccer players, and decided to fight it. Although these individuals used different methods, they all had courage, passion, and devoted followers, who helped them stand up for their cause.

Bold, heroic, strong, courageous. These are just a few words to describe one of our world’s most iconic people, Nelson Mandela. He fought for freedom and against racial discrimination in his country of South Africa. Not only did Nelson Mandela change the world, he also inspired people to change the world too. He was just an average boy living in a small town in South Africa who became one of the world’s most iconic figures. Through challenges and hard times, he got through and today, Nelson Mandela’s story inspires people around the world to do something that can make a difference.

     Mahatma Gandhi was a national icon for the people of India between the years 1869 and 1948. He is still remembered all over the world today. To follow the path of Gandhi one must traverse all regions of India, from the houses of the highest officials to the poorest villages where the word poverty does injustice. Gandhi led a fearless resistance against the British government, that oppressed his people, and an endless pilgrimage to lift the spirits of his people(the people of India) to maturity. Gandhi was very unique in his approach as he preached non-violence and led a life similar to that of the most downtrodden people of India.
