During spring training, I felt like I had worked harder than I ever have. I just knew that I was getting a spot on the field. I thought that the directors would choose me as one of many other on the field. When summer marching band rolled around I was confident I had a spot. For the first week out of the summer five days out of the week from 12:00pm to 9:00pm we did drills and practiced playing. I never slowed down and at the end of the first week; they had a general idea of who was going to be on the field. They give you a card that tells the coordinates of your spot during the show, if only your name is on it you have a spot. If it has two names, you and that person are now competing for that spot. I was very disappointed to find out I now had to compete against someone. During week, two of marching band it was obvious the other person received the spot. …show more content…
It was a second chance to be out under the lights marching and being a part of the band. It was not the most glamorous job but it was better than being on the sidelines. I worked into the school year to receive a spot on the prop crew. We pushed these seven-foot tall wood and steel panels during the show and loaded and the equipment for the band and without us the show wouldn’t work, so it was a fairly important role. Even Though I was not a main part of the show playing my instrument I still had to go to every morning practice at 7:00am and all the games. I was still a part of the band and even though it was hard work and very challenging to balance work and school, it paid off. Being in band and working so hard has taken me to Oklahoma, Atlanta Georgia for three days and St. Louis Missouri for two days to compete in the biggest competition in the nation
Most schools offer a variety of activities, classes, and clubs. I personally was never interested in school or anything to do with it. Then I came across band and was instantly hooked. Band has concerts, marching band, and you get to meet new people. Band is my favorite class and here are some reasons why.
I don’t know how many notes I repeated. I don’t know how many hours I practiced. I can’t quantify how much I stressed. All I know is that it did not feel worth it.
At half time the sound of cheering fans is drowned out by the sound of thunderous drums. Knees high, the Falcon Marching Band begins marching down the field. While the band plays on, white flags decorate the field as color guard decorates the field. According to flagline member Ashely Clark, she loves the adrenaline of performing, “It feels like an adrenaline rush to march onto the field because you are so excited about the show. While performing my mind goes blank through and I just do everything on autopilot.”
So, most people have great memories right? Mine are marching band memories. Marching band started with my sister. My mom and my sister inspired me to do sports in the first place. It was either marching band or volleyball. Which I believe marching band was for the best. I'm working up to the things that my sister accomplished. My music has helped me develop my life, my values, and my goals.
Every person has something that they're passionate about such as sports, art, theater, or music; most people find their calling while doing something they enjoy taking part in, for me it was the music department and all the activities that I could do within it.
When I joined marching band in my freshman year of high school, I felt nervous and reluctant about joining because I questioned my abilities. However, I decided to commit myself to it so that I would know if it was something meant for me to pursue in the future. On the first day, I was overwhelmed with the many people who I did not recognize, and I started to feel as if I should never have come. Things began to change for me when I met an upperclassman named Sophie, who was my flute section leader. She was kind to everyone and did not get upset if anyone made a mistake in the music or marching technique, but rather, she gave constructive criticism. Sophie was an amazing leader and musician, and she was, and still is, a role model to me. Without
I work hard to accomplish something phenomenal. I march while playing music that I memorized. We have three after school rehearsals a week for all of marching season, and two weeks of band camp a week before school starts. All the hard work we put in shows when we go to competition.
It began during my 8th grade year, I started to play in the marching band for the football games and parades. Percussion was my cup of tea because I know that I could nail it by reading and memorizing the music more often. It took me days to memorize my music for the half-time performances, especially for the parades. Meanwhile at the football field for the first time ever, I begin to think that maybe it did not turn out to be bad after all. For the rest of the football season during half-time, I finally got the hang of it. Marching fundamentals was quite a bit confusing. So that took me weeks to figure out remembering the fundamentals before the half-time performance. Back then, I heard a person who was cheering on for me and it just made
It’s a normal October Friday night, and I’m at the football field. No, I’m not in the student section cheering for my football team with big signs or streamers; I’m on the actual field, about to conduct my marching band’s field show. The bright stadium lights reflect off my glowing smile as I silently wish all of my bandmates good luck. My adrenaline rushes and I start to conduct as if my life simply depends on it. For five years, I have contributed to this band and called it my family (and for good reason). I have met some of the greatest people that I have ever known through playing with them and being by their sides through the best and worst performances. The first 10 weeks of school are some of the busiest in the entire school year, due to all of the practices and games. However, despite its craziness, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Becoming the drum major of the band I had
A leader is someone who is in charge, a person who convinces other people to follow and inspire an individual, and someone who is the principal performer in a section or group. But a great leader inspires confidence in other people and someone who look up to you with trust and honor. As a freshman this year, I am dedicated to become an assistant drum major for my sophomore year because I want to have the experience to be a better candidate and improve my leadership skills for my future. I remembered I entered marching band as an unconfident quiet person, but as I got more used to the marching band program, I noticed that I had built more courage and got more converse with my band family. I feel like I am capable for this position because I

The band classes this year are really good. We have been practicing really hard music so we will be ready for the high school band. The first year you take an instrument test to find out what instrument you will play. After you find out what instrument you are going to play you have to go home and practice a lot.
It was unbelievable considering our band was the smallest it’s been in years. I was sitting in awe, just amazed that we actually made it. But then it hit me, we would now have to perform in front of over a thousand people on a humongous turf field. This was the first time ever that I was nervous to perform our marching show. Slowly I put on my uniform for the last time of that season and I could feel the sweat from performing before still on the insides of my uniform. We got ready in our single file lines and waited for our turn. I remember waiting there and hearing the gigantic sound the band in front of us. They had twice the amount of people we did and I remember thinking: wow were going to get killed, there’s no possible way we will be able to beat three A bands that are twice our size. Then I got forced out of my thoughts when they announced that it was Lennox’s turn to go
Our marching bands local community would be University High School, Orange City, FL Titan Regiment. This is because it’s the community that we are located and the high school that we represent anywhere that we go to. The next community above our local community is state community FMBC. This stands for Florida marching band championships. This is held every year to figure out who are the top bands in Florida. This is a state community because it’s based on all the states marching bands over the state of Florida not just a particular area. Lastly you have the national community. For marching bands this is the BOA. This stands for bands of America for high school students. This is a national community because this represents the entire band in
Usually when people think of sports they usually think of Football, Baseball, Basketball, any sport that is widely broadcasted on television and sponsored around states and cities, and even countries; however, those are mainly the most popular sports. People interpret the word “sport” as a term that requires an abundance of endurance and energy, using physical and mental skills to further better themselves at said sport. There is a lot of controversy over whether high school marching band and drum corps is a sport, most people claiming that it doesn’t because it’s “elegant” and “more of a performance” still, aren’t all sports a performance? Coaches in most sports ask for the best and make a person work for their spot,
